The Golden Circle tour is widely offered by many tour companies.  If you are not able to book on your MVJ open time, simply book with any of the providers.  I used the company that has the same name as your topic.  If offered, do the Golden Circle that stops at the greenhouse.

The variations of the golden circle tour last 6 - 8 hours.  It is well worth the time and you see many different places and environments.  As wonderful as Thingvellir and Gullfoss was, I think Geyser was my favorite.

Yes the Old Norse language gave us the word Geyser and Thing (þing)

I would not be too concerned with "missing the boat"  The Icelandic logistic and tourism  movement is a thing to be seen.

    Agree completely.

You see so much on this tour. There are great companies out there (Arctic adventures for example) who do small minibus tours with around 15 to 20 people. So, if you were struggling with getting the the viking excursion, they will get you back on time.

We have not stayed in that exact cabin but within a few cabins on both port and starboard sides.  We have been on deck 3 on every Viking cruise we have been on.

We have never had any noise concerns at least that were bothersome to us.

The restaurant in our opinion does not transfer noise up, the Restaurant is not open late anyway... I think that it closes around 9:30'ish.   The promenade deck is mostly people walking as it is not a running friendly deck.  Most runners are on the sports deck up top.  Don't think you will have issues here.

Where we have heard noise is when we have been further forward on Deck 3 and that noise is coming from the theatre.  We have heard rehearsals in the afternoon and if retiring early, sometimes the shows, but they like the restaurant don't usually go past 9:30'ish.

From my perspective you should be fine.

    Same here.

No noise issues at all for us near this location. Sure you will be fine.

Hello everyone ! My husband and I have an upcoming Iceland cruise we are excited about. We are in a DV1 room and on the day our dining reservations opened up I signed in at 6am mountain time and all dining reservations were not available. Was trying to get at least one for his birthday. We also booked all our tours on the exact time they opened up for us and 1 of the tours we really wanted was already booked.

I called Viking right away on tour opening day to try to be put on waitlist, was told Viking doesn’t waitlist. I did manage to get on a waitlist with a private tour company, but with 2 Viking ships in port that day, I would be surprised if we get to go, it is a very small anchorage port with limited tour services.

I also called Viking the day I couldn’t get in for our 2 dinner reservations and she said we could try and get reservations on board but wouldn’t be at our preferred times. We have early tours every day and don’t like to dine after 9.
This is our first Viking cruise and have been on Azamara and Oceania in suites and veranda rooms and have always been able to book our dining reservations and tours when we needed.

I guess I’m a little confused why Viking advertises a guarantee dining reservation but we weren’t able to book anything at our early booking time? Do you need to get up at midnight to book them? I would have done that if it would have helped get what we needed.
I have looked at all the dining venues and World Cafe or The Restaurant will be fine to celebrate his birthday, paying extra to not get in is making me disappointed in Viking. Especially when they make you pay in full a year in advance.

    Hi there.

Similar story for us on our Baltic cruise in June. We could only get a late reservation for Manfredis, and that was pretty much it. But...... we were given a mid cruise survey which I expressed disappointment at the reservation system. The next day when we got back from a tour, we had a message on the phone saying we had a 6pm reservation the next night.

I agree that you should keep trying, and also try to book as soon as you get on board, but constantly trying to sort stuff on board cuts into your holiday time. It`s not something I enjoyed at all. And to be completely honest, it`s gradually driving us away from Viking.

    Good luck.

Karlskrona isn’t much.  Prefer staying onboard.

Yeah it wasn`t that great was it. The very heavy rain didn`t help either 😂 It was my least favourite port on the Scenic Scandinavia.

    This is an excellent question.

Since Viking reads CruiseCritic perhaps they can address this on-line.  The chances of that is zero.

And there are no free upgrade offers.

Allow me to tell you what does not trigger an Upgrade offer-

    Loyalty to the product.

We booked the cheapest cabin for our upcoming Northern lights cruise, and received a complimentary upgrade a few weeks ago. I can only assume that they (Viking) were trying to free up cheaper cabins because thy were easier to sell. So there ARE free upgrades occasionally, especially in these strange times.

  6. My daughter and I are on that cruise to iceland on Arcadia; we plan to dress for the Lake District and reckon we'll get it about right! Layers, waterproofs, a couple of fleeces, but shorts too in case the sun appears.

Well I live in the lake district and have also cruised to Iceland. That`s perfect advice Clodia.

    :)

  7. Stayed in F726 at Easter our choice of cabin and a great choice. Being an aft cabin the balcony was much bigger, the location at the back of the ship was also very quiet with no passing traffic. Good location for buffet etc. added bonus we had a sofa too. Would stay in that cabin again love aft cabins soon on Azura in aft cabin.

    No noise when docking.

My recommendation for Britannia a great ship.

Would second this. Really peaceful location.

  8. Agree with the other posters. By all means, take a little cash just for piece of mind, but it`s no problem to even buy a coffee with a CC. As another person mentioned, the Halifax card is great because it does not incur charges. Beware using a debit card though. You will be charged for every transaction.

Iceland rocks by the way !

    Best nplace EVER......:D

  9. Wow this is all great useful information. Thank you so much everyone. Really looking forward to this last minute cruise.

    Hi.

We went to the Guggenheim last summer. I booked it online and it was so much cheaper than the P&O trip.

We used the free shuttle service and walked to the museum. If you book online, you dont have to go in the main queue, you keep left on the main stairs and just show your barcode on your phone. Easy, and it cost around £35 for the 3 of us with a translator phone included.

    Enjoy.

    :)

  10. We have an aft balcony booked for the Fjiords this summer on Britannia, The same cabin we had last year. The balcony is a little bigger than standard, has a sofa and is handy for the aft lifts and the buffet. Really quiet with no through traffic too.

Our cabin was on D Deck.

    :)

  11. Hi there.

Cruising on Britannia in a few weeks. Just a quick question about the slots in the casino. do they take cash (sterling or dollars) or do you need to use your seapass card.

I usually cruise on RCI and this is my 1st time on P&O. All the slots on RCI take dollars.

I would prefer to take cash if poss (then I can`t be a nuaghty boy and go over my limit)

    Can anyone help please ?

    Ta.

    PJ

  12. Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for.

On our last P&O cruise we had an aft balcony which we were really happy with.

However we then got "upgraded" to a higher floor midships balcony.

By the time we noticed it was too late as the auto software had allocated our previous cabin and it went down the chain so there was no chance to get it back.

I had this exact conversation with our TA. He said that if we got "upgraded" we would probably get a midships balcony. We had booked an aft balcony on Britannia. (we like watching the wake of the ship, it`s so relaxing)

We turned off automatic upgrades after that. Careful people !

  13. Azura or Ventura would be a better bet in my opinion for your first cruise. Because Britannia is so big I think you might find it a hit overwhelming.

As far as grabbing a sun longer at 6am is concerned it is not yours for the day unless you stay on it all day! Please don't become one of those passengers! If only people would be more reasonable there would actually be enough for all most of the time.

Our first cruise was on Voyager of the Seas (which was huge).

We didn`t find it overwelming, it was more like a big adventure and we loved it. I say go for Britannia. The chances are you will have an amazing time.
