  1. I am a newbie on the Panama Canal cruise and our cruise ends in Vancouver and does not start there.

If I am reading these posts correctly, this offer is only for cruises departing from Vancouver, not arriving in Vancouver, correct?

    Our cruise ends in Vancouver

    thanks:D

    Kazu

This promo is for Alaskan Cruise's only. Departing from Seattle or Vancouver.

  2.

I have never ever been given a code and have never ever had any problems. And I always have to call the hotels at least 2 weeks in advance in order to make sure someone in the hotel will sign for my rental scooter.

I just want people to understand that they cannot book say an Inside cabin and then get a free hotel room using a code given by someone on one of the forums.

Hope I make sense to one and all

    Hi Joanie

You only read my last post if you read all the early post I think it's clear. You need to book a Neptune suite, we are also talking about a cruise to AK. from

Seattle. (Yes I know it's the same promo leaving from Vancouver).

You must ask for the promo when calling HAL your self they don't automatic

    give it to you.

If you read under HALS specials you will see the promo code you need to ask for listed with many more that HAL is offering at a giving time. The reason I listed the code was to make it easier for someone to inquire about it. I'm sure this code is only good for the 2014 cruises & not all cruises are included.

I choose to belive that anyone reading this form can understand that they not entitled to anything free from HAL.

  3.

Keep in mind also that HAL submits a list of their passengers who will be receiving the free hotel stay(s). If your name(s) are not on the list and you use a code to try and get the free room, you will have a problem.......

    Joanie

I hope everyone understood you have to have HAL add the promo code. Then it will show up on your resv. What hotel.

When you check in to the hotel they will tell you what time the free bus leaves for the pier 91.

  4. I'm a relative "newcomer" to the cruise critic forum. The smoking issue for me and my wife is an important one. I can understand that long-time contributors (tens of thousands of posts) find my interests in this controversial issue to be tiresome and boring. For me, the comments and opinions, however, help clarify our personal issues with the HAL smoking policy. Could you please show some tolerance and understanding of our continuing interest in the smoking policy and its application to Holland America Line?

    Tolerance and understanding! LOL

  5. We have thrown parties in the PS, and we have had the Captain, Hotel Manager, and the Cruise Director in attendance. I think it depends on the cruise, the day you have the event, and the schedule of the people invited. If there are a lot of sea days, the attendance seems to be a bit better. The PS is perfect for entertaining and traveling with friends. We have always enjoyed our stay in the PS suites.

This has been my experience also. And we always receive one dinner invitation from the Captain I thought it was the norm!

  6. Good question OP. IMO, and as some have already stated, they have become true friends with various crew members, generally because they spend enough time cruising and get to spend enough time to truly get to know each other over the years.

Other folks, well, they like to think they are friends with various crew members. (Hint to those folks - if you don't have their personal email and/or cell, then they are doing their job on board, which is....wait for it....being friendly in the hospitality industry. That involves smiling, laughing, telling jokes, asking how your day is going, being your 'friend' on board, etc, etc). Afterall, they want you to come back. That's what hospitality is all about, making you feel at home and among friends & family.

Yet other folks, such as myself, don't give a rats fuzzy behind, haha. I am not there to make lifelong friends with crew members. I am there for vacation and to learn and explore. If, by some fluke, I develop a friendship over x number of years, it's icing on the cake. Otherwise, I see it for what it is - them making my trip enjoyable and pleasant. Which should be what we all should want in the end. :)

    Love your post

  7. We get the same service in the PS as in the SA.

Funny thing we travel with adult children and get them a SA. They had a issue

And spoke to the cabin steward and concierge about it & the concierge told them to have their aunt request it because they have clout in the PS.

IMO a SA is nice but it's not the PS

  8. Hi

I am looking for transportation from airport to hotel. The last time I was in Seattle I walked across the street to where taxi's and town cars are. I really don't want to lug my luggage over to the area. I saw some post a while ago that a town car will meat you at the barrage area.. I am not interested in shuttles. I am past the stage on getting on a shuttle and waiting for it to fill up and stoping at a few hotel. I am flying cross country. and have vowed never to use a shuttle unless its the hotel shuttle. I can't remember the name of that shuttle someone recommended.

    Thank You

    Mary

We use Seattle Elite Town Car after I get my luggage I call and tell them what door I'm at the driver meets me there. For a extra fee they will meet you inside.

  9. [quote name='sctexan']Obviously there are many ways to get to downtown Seattle from the airport. We will be coming in from a 5 hour flight.

Should we just take a shuttle? If so, what company is recommended? Or is public transport really easy to manage with luggage and an 8 year old?

There is Go airport shuttle I think $20.00 for 1 adult but it makes multi stops. Taxis was about $65.00 for 2 adults. Both of these you have to get luggage then cross over bridge to parking garage. Town car SUV is about $95.00 for 4 adults but they pick you up right out of the luggage doors.
We have never tried the train to down town. IMO the town car is the easiest
  10. Sorry for the confusion, it appears that I should have said "after" instead of "when" in the statement below, which is actually from above, about buying fruit in the airport.

"Good to know. I had assumed that since we had cleared US customs and that Alaska was part of the US that we wouldn't be considered smuggling. Sort of like how you can buy fruit in airport in Canada WHEN you go through US customs at the airport in Canada and then can debark in the US wherever your flight takes you."

In some Canadian airports, mine in particular, we actually clear US customs at the airport. Once we're clear customs we are considered on American soil. We don't generally have to go through customs when we get off the plane again (some exceptions apply). Any fruit that we buy after clearing customs is considered safe since it was technically bought in the US.

I had assumed that the same process applied to HAL, but you know what they say about making assumptions ☺. And I'm way better off to have asked the question here than to have found out the hard way.

Krazy Kruisers, thanks for the link to the fudge places. They will definitely get checked out. 😊

What I'm really after though is chocolate mint M&Ms. You can't buy them in Canada. Can I buy them in Alaska? I will likely ask that question on the Alaska board.

Fog is my cat's name, by the way, and I'm a she.

AK. Ports do not check your bags when getting off the ship for food!

Not talking about fruit but I put cookies & crackers in a bag for kids

Carried in plain view! No has stopped us. Always have candy in my purse.

  11. I agree, and in that case selma should do as POA1 suggested and heap all possible charges on her own cabin.

Every passenger should have gotten the basic "actual days" credit, not just the first two.

What I meant is the first 2 passengers in each cabin got the double day credit for suites. I got the spending credit on all 3 cabins with different booking numbers.

  12. Thats how I read it too, but can see how it can be interpreted different ways.

If Im getting things correct it is of importance to make it one booking? Hmm that could be intersting! Ive been booked for a while already given the need for sn accessible stateroom. Second stateroom Im planning on bookung somewhere round just after pay in full date (plenty roims left, not picky and expect price drop aroynd that time). Third stateroom could be anywhere from "now" to last minute depending on job situation. Possible forth will book asap when getting a green light on that part. Guess I never do anything simple, sigh. ;-)

Expecting most of the expenses will be hotel charges, spa, perhaps odd excursion when splitting up (most will either be private or winging it due to my needs) and some onboard shopping or onboard tour. None are real drinkers, so 6 glasses of wine in total for a week will be much already. And with a comp specialty dining for all, not sure if we end up doing a second which would actually show up as charged.

Not sure if this helps but we had 3 cabins 3 different booking numbers.

I went to the front desk had all charges put on my credit card. I received the spending bonus credit. And the first 2 passengers in each cabin got the daily credit.
