  1. Stay true to induction. Got my head streight on what is stage 1/2. Was able to get lots of out door work done which is helping the scales to. I had hoped to be down at least 24 pounds. Yesterday was my goal day (B-day). I was able to hit a 21.2 pound lost since 1/1. Not, what I wanted but, not to bad with a two weeks of cruising in there.

How is everybody doing with their WL and Goals?

  2. 31 weeks and I've gained 15. I am so nervous it's going to pile on in the next 9 weeks. I've been so exhausted and it's so much more difficult for me to exercise. I can't eat much at one sitting, but I am constantly hungry!!!!!!!

You have already made it past that 5 month big gain, so I belive in you and you will just gain baby this last 9 weeks. Keep up the Great work!

Do you have access to any water exercise. The one time I had some trouble, being in the water was a God send.

Nice work! Did you exercise at all? Is celebrity good about "leaving the stuff off"? Are all the dining staff understanding about no bread if it's just my DH and I at a table?

Thanks in advance for your responses!!!!!

I found Celebrity food a little plain. Maybe it was due to the age of the cruisers being older. Yes, they bend over backward to help with any eating plan. The DD got all kind of one of a kind vegin dinners.

I did hit the gym a couple times, but I can't do the gym while cruiseing do to the motion and my stomach:D I just keep draging my fat butt up as many stairs as I can.

IT's gorgeous here in Ohio, and I am sure we'll be back to snow in no time. My son and I went to play in the park and we are going to take a walk when he wakes up. I'm bummed I have to work tonight-- that means I will be dragging tomorrow during prime outside play time!!!!

It was gorgeous here to until the three Tornados hit in our neck of the woods.(They won't know until the Tormado experts get here if there where more) Two where down in the Detroit/Ann Arbor area. The thirds was just ten miles from us.

  3. has anyone done Atkins (low carb) while cruising? I have been on Atkins for about 3 months now.....I'm loosing , but not near my goal. I want to be able to enjoy my cruise, but don't want to gain my weight back. other than eating basic meat and veggies any suggestions?

I have a few times. In Feb I kept it going as I did so well and came home 1 pound less than I left two weeks before.

The first thing I did was tell the dinning staff I can't eat bread at all. They understand gluten free so that is how I delt with the third dinning staff I had when he asked when I kept turing bread down.

I was even able to order desert most nights and just took a bite. I did order two main courses and asked them to leave off the "stuff".

I made sure I climbed the stairs both ways when I had dessert. I tried using stairs as much as possible.

It is easy to do Atkins in the Windjammer. I got eggs from the station for omlets. I ordered fried eggs or omletts with meat only.

It is doable. It is a mind set though. If you think you are being deprived

    than you won't have fun.

    Good Luck

  4. I do Atkins and am currently pregnant. I had been on OWL when I got pregnant.

I switched to maintenance the day I found out I was pregnant. I was overweight to begin with so my total goal according to my dr is to gain 15-25 lbs. I am 30 weeks and have gained 12- much better than with my first son where I had gained 33 lbs by this point!!!

I love focusing on tons of veggies and lean protein, with dairy and low glycemic fruit. Of course dark chocolate a few times a week! I have exercised 4-5 times a week this whole time and feel great!

I look forward to recipes and support. I have loved SFS' site for years and had no idea she posted on here at one time!!!!

WOW! You are doing GREAT!. Keeping a handle on your weight while pregnant pays off for the rest of you life. Take it from someone who knew better but, didn't make it happen.

Keep up the great work and don't forget those prenat vit.

  5. I went shopping this evening for low carb foods, been reading the book again and now the journey begins ..... Thanks for the warm welcome back.

Having the right foods at hand are half the battle. GOOD LUCK!

I got the strips to chang, even though the color doesn't match any on the bottle. They are a nice lilac;) Also, I have gotten the opps pounds off and am 1 pound less than when I went on the cruises for two week.

I just love how Atkins works when I stay the course.

I hope everyone is having a great low carb day.

  6. Well I haven't gotten the strips to change colore again. But, the scales stopped going up and inched down a little today. The DD did a traditonal T-day dinner tonight. She called it a mid winter dinner. I did great except I did still a tablespoon of mashed taters.:o Bad thing is my body will know!

  7. It's been awhile since I've been on these boards, but I have a totally awesome Panana Canal Cruise booked for 2013 and I want to loose 75-100 pounds....I found lots of support here before and am hoping to reconnect and make new Atkins buddies again.

I too found great support here before and that is why I'm back here. Also my surgeon wants me on Atkins. They just don't call it that, bad mouth Atkins and than that is the diet they have me on. Go figure.

  8. Bon Voyage, Melody!!

Have a wonderful trip....come back and see us!

Hi I had a GREAT two weeks on my b2b2b, The good news is I came home 2 pounds LESS than I left.

Fell off the wagon this weekend in the carb department. Back on I go tomorrow. Some days are just like that.:D

After I was home a couple days I feel off. I thought I could give myself ONE night off. It turned into THREE days and SIX pounds:eek: Back on I went. Spent the day driving to and from a funeral acroos the State. I think I did OK. I have to do strick induction for the next two weeks to turn this thing around.

If I can do it on the ship, I sure should be able to at home. I'm taking the grandson to Disney in April/May and I have to get back into the summer cloths I was wearing on the ship.

  9. Gooooood JOB Melody!!

12 lb... 12 days... Your off to a Great Start!!... And you were very wise to pack your food and come back at a LOSS!!! YESSSSS!!!:D

Today... my DGD turns 3! Yay!....but... she called and asked us to come to Chuck E Cheese for pizza!! - I looked...and they offer salads here! I'm going to be goood!! :D

    Have a good day!!

Thank You for your support. Good Luck to you at Chuck I Cheese. I'm off for two weeks of cruising tomorrow.

  10. Hi all! Yes, the stall was most likely water (not hormons) as I dropped a couple pounds the next day. I went away for the weekend to scrapbook with the girls. The provided the food. I took a cooler with cheese, fish and my homemade "Atkins friendly" blu cheese dip/dressing. I'm so proud of meself as I avoided all the carb loaded goodies. Boyually was it hard but paid off with a .4 lbs lost for the weekend.:) Not much but will take it as I have been know to eat enough candy and goodies to pack on 5+ pounds at one of these.:o

I've lost 12 pounds in the first 12 days of induction.:D I leave for my cruise Wed. Hope I can keep control on the cruise.

  11. The most user friendly list I use is Atkins but on the Sugar Free Sheila site here http://www.sugarfreesheila.com/InductionFoodsList.html It makes it easy to refer to when I have to go back into induction. Be sure to look at the *notes, because it will remind you where hidden carbs might be located.

    Thanks for the link!

I have been doing the 14 day. I was doing great than went up a pound two days ago and stayed there today. Not sure what that is about. I never had it happen on induction before.

  12. I'm doing Atkins. It is truly the only thing that works for me. I have hypothyroidism and I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my first child. My doctor told me because of that (the gestational not hypo) I was at risk for Type II diabetes within the next 10 years. So, it was important for me to lose weight, but the hypothyroidism makes it difficult even when my medications say my thyroid is performing well enough. Atkins makes it possible to lose weight. My problems occur when I get off of Atkins because I give myself permission to go crazy with food (which would be unsuccessful in any diet/lifestyle). Atkins would probably call me a carbohydrate addict, and I wouldn't be able to dispute it.

Like Lisa said you can still be losing weight and keytones can be present whether the strips change. You can also never go actually into ketosis (just be borderline) and still lose weight. Her advice of checking carbs is good as well as making sure you are strictly following Atkins advice on allowed items. I've been out of induction for awhile, so when I go back in I have to look at the list again to make sure I'm not including something like peanut butter that is not allowed those first two weeks (some people can get away with it during induction, others can't). Wishing you much luck!!

Thank You so much for sharing with me. Where do you find the list. I have been trying to

navigate the Atkins site and it sure isn't like when I used to visit it.

Thanks for the input Scott about the strips. I am also right ther with you, "I just have to figure out how to keep the weight off all year. I'm good at losing and gaining - just haven't figured out the maintenance." I may have lost 1000 pounds in my life. For sure over 500, 50-80 at a time not to mention the 10-20.

  13. Thanks for your reply! Did you enjoy the Everglades tour and did you get to see any alligators, gator park? My 10 year old is interested in reptiles!

Thats scary about the bus breaking down, our international flights out of MIA are at 5.10pm, and I really hope that drop off time is doable. On the RCL tour info, it said flights 4.30pm and after are good for this tour. Incidentally, what time does the tour bus leave Port Everglades? Did you have to do the Express disembarkation?

I really, really like it and would do it again. We saw one small alligator. I think he is sorta plant and you get to at least see one. Your 10 year old will love it.

We did not do the Express disemarkation for the tour. We met where they told us to. Got off when called. Collected our bags and went to the bus for us. The luggage went on the bus. We left personal stuff on the bus and the driver locked it as we went off to have fun.

I hope this works for you!

  14. I noticed that fares went down yesterday for many of Royal Caribbean's Transatlantic saililing in April and May. There were reductions for the Grandeur, Jewel, Adventure, and Liberty (maybe more). If interested head over to the Royal Caribbean site and select Transatlantic sailings in the 'Find A Cruise' front page function. Work your way through the booking process to get the final fare for one passenger.

For example the Adventure of the Seas, April 15, 2012, from San Juan to Malaga, inside single guarantee, comes out to $649.76.

I booked the Voyager which is a bit more.

Deals like these are what we wait for each year !! :)

WOW! That is great. I wish I was in a position to jump on. I love TA's

  15. That's a good question, Melody. I think over the years we've had some who do low-carb, not necessarily Atkins itself, even though many call it "Atkins" if they stop eating bread, sugar, etc. :)

I've followed the principles in Dr. Atkins' book for almost 13 years, with the exception of my last pregnancy, which took many years to "recover" from. :) At the moment, my daughter is almost 7. I lost 26 pounds a couple of years ago, and seem to have found my perfect CCLM (Critical Carb Level for Maintenance) over the past 2 years, because I've hovered in that same weight range, even though I have about 20 more pounds to go. I'm at a good size & can fit into most of my clothes (I'm tall), so it's been tough to get motivated to get that rock-hard bod.

For a while, we were pretty adamant about it being an ATKINS board, because a lot of people would come here and talk about how Atkins was bad without having read the book. But I think it's been good to see how different things work for different people. I still think it's important that we differentiate between true Atkins and other low-carb variations; for example, the nonfat twist that was recently mentioned would completely throw my insulin response out of whack...for those new to Atkins, it's important for them to know how crucial getting enough fat is on the Atkins plan. A nonfat low-carb plan may work for someone, and that's great, and can be celebrated, but it's not Atkins. That was probably much longer of an answer than you wanted. :)

As for the strips, yes, too much water can dilute ketones, and they can be there without showing up on the strip. I only use them first thing in the morning, and I have never in my life gotten them darker than the lightest shade of pink. I do love to see that color change. :) As long as the weight is coming off, it's okay not to see the color change. If there's no color change and no loss, I would check to be sure your eating few enough carbs. Keep us posted!

That is just the answer I was looking for. Thank You so much. I only get the lightest shade of pink in the am. You would think it would be later in the day when you have been acitve all day but not so. I think it is better to drink the water than see purple:D

I've lost a pound a day since doing true induction so will stay the course.

Again Thank You Lisa for taking the time to help.

Also thank you Jean for keeping this going for all of us sliders.;)

  16. I was wondering if anyone has done this excursion, pick up at Port Everglades, and includes airboat, and drop off at Miami Airport?

I am confused if this is the same Everglades as the Safari Everglades, Miami, or is it different. From the Trip Advisors, saw some good reviews of the Safari Everglades, Miami and am hoping this the one the excursion is referring to.

The Everglades are at Port Everglads where we land in Ft Ladurdale. They take you for a cool air boat ride. Than off you go to the airport. When I did it we had people for FLL and MIA on the same bus. They we going to drop FLL people first than on to MIA. But, the bus had an accident and the lady going to MIA was going to miss her plane. The rest of use had really late flight and we told him to take her first. The rould trip ride wasn't that bad.

  17. OK I got to ask with all the talk here. Are most people here doing Atkins? Sounds like alot are doing something else. Is there anybody that has made it a long term lifestyle and are things still working out for you?

I have gone back to induction. I went out and got the test strips. I'm not having much luck with the color changing. Could I be drinking TOO much water causing dilution?

  18. Carnival used to have that program. I met one lady in the Lido over and over as her roomie locked her out. If I was her roomie I might have done so too. The woman was sick when she boarded, and sneezed and snorted all over. That was the cruise my DH got nor-virses (sp) on. He had spent a lot of time in the Lido deck and she had talked at him many times. She was a little off too.

When I did my Liberty TA, I met a neat lady named Doris. I had met her here on our roll call. She got a Lady with early Alzhimer's. More than once I found her wondering and took her back to her cabin. They had done a med before the TA. I felt so bad for Doris. She called the son and gave him heck for putting his Mom on a ship like that. She could have been left in Europe.

On the other side I met a young man that booked the same way along with a friend and his Mom. All three ended up with thier own cabin. The two friend thought they would be put togeather but, not.

I thought about doing this but, Carnival stopped doing it before I started cruising solo. I couldn't do it now. Even though I have met several friend here on CC. I have gone on to cruise with three different women. One worked out GREAT, one was Good and one not so much.

  19. I've got two weeks today before I head out. I've lost all I gained from my two weeks cruising in December (only gained 1 pound on the cruise, a record) and the Holidays. I'm down another couple too. I would be very happy with five more. Support from here and accountablility will help keep me on track.

I just got an upgrade on my third of the b2b2b from inside to balcony. I called and was able to get an aft. So, hopefully the walk to any food will help:D

  20. Thanks so much for your quick reply. Would it be possible to request one in advance or would I need to wait and ask my room steward?

Rccl has a chart that tells them how many people can be in a room. It also tells if a roll away can be used in a room. This all has to be set at time of booking. I just did a search of aft balconies and didn't see a single one that allowed Rollaways. It is a must to know this info from your booking agent rather TA or RCCL direct. Your RS has no say.

  21. Hi all! I used to be on here 100 years ago. I did great first year lost 60lbs, second lost and gained another twenty. After 3 years I was still down 60 and that was the best/longest I have done in 40 years. Then I just had a little bread at my favorite restaurant.

After another 10 years and gaining 100lbs, I went back on Atkins. I lost weight while going thru the process to get a lap band. I was doing slow but steady. They put me on a “high” protein liquid diet prior to surgery and had to stop Atkins. I gained 14 pounds while everyone else lost. The diet was way too high in carbs.

I got the lap band lost 60 pounds the first year and had none stop medical issues for three years now and gained 80 pounds back. The band is still in but, not filled. So, I have put myself back on Atkins.

I had forgotten all about this thread until it popped up in my subscribed threads. So, here I am looking for others going thru the same thing. Hope everybody is have great luck with the lifestyle.

I am leaving on the Liberty for three back to back cruises 2/9.
