  1. The emergency drill usually starts between 4.45pm & 5pm regardless of the length of the cruise. It will be over by 5.30pm as that's when dinner starts for those on early dining.

There is nowhere else on the ship to carry out the drill, even if every lounge was used there still isn't enough room to accommodate everyone in a lounge.

  2. I was just reading, in another place, some upset passengers' reactions to receiving emails advising cancellation of Carnival Spirit cruises for July 2015 due to the ship being removed from service for a refurb. Those passengers state they have been offered different sailing dates with a $30 on board credit. I know Carnival Legend starts cruising our summer season from September this year. I do not know if Legend will be here by July 2015 to cover Spirit's absence or not. Good luck to those affected especially the young lady who had planned and booked her wedding for one of the cancelled cruises. Cheers, Buzz.

The Spirit is going into dry dock in Singapore. She will cruise from Sydney to Singapore departing Sydney on 1st Aug next year & returning from Singapore departing 30th Aug. There is no indication that Carnival Legend will be in Australia at that time.

  3. The smoking policy on embarkation day seems a bit tough. We are boarding at midday. My husband will have steam coming out if his ears if he can't smoke till sailing. You sure this is correct?

This is from the Carnival Spirit FUNTIMES (daily program)

"During embarkation in Sydney, smoking is NOT permitted anywhere on board until sailing, due to bunkering of the ships fuel". You husband can always board at the latest boarding time.

  4. Yes you can pwkmpjm. You take the stairs and enter via Deck 3 where you will be seated up there. When choosing your dining option, there are 3 options, early, late or anytime. If you have early or late and for some reason that night the time does not suit, something else you want to do, running late from shore excursion and aren't ready on time, or you have made new friends and want to dine with them (as an example) you can go to Anytime. You cannot however have Anytime and go to Deck 2 for Early or Late.

You are right though, there is always the Buffet on the Lido Deck.

Your statement above that you can go to Your time dining if your fixed time dining doesn't suit you is not correct & is very misleading. Dining times are Early, Late & Your Time. All guests are allocated a dining time & Your time dining is always the 1st to fill & the number of seats in the Your time dining section is limited. You can only change your dining time ( & you would be extremely lucky to have it changed more than once) if you speak to the Maitre 'd or Assistant Maitre 'd & they have room available to accommodate you. As a rule you can't just decide on a day to day basis that you will choose Your time dining if you have a table allocation for Early or Late dining. They may be able to seat someone, with Early or Late dining, in the Your time dining section (deck 3) if space is available but there is no guarantee. They do know which time dining you have as they ask for your room number when entering the Your time dining section & it shows on the computer. Many people with fixed dining time have been turned away when they went to the Your time section as there was no space available for them.

  5. Early/Late Dining works that they want everyone there for the start, that way it is easier to the waiters to seat everyone at once, take all their orders and proceed from there. Each wait team has about 5-8 tables and if everyone is there on time it works so much easier. If you are late, say 30mins, they will ask you to go upstairs to Anytime Dining. As you can imagine in they need everything to run smoothly for the first seating so that they are not delayed for the last.

So in a nutshell, 5.30 means close to that!!! If you cant make it at the set time, just go upstairs (Deck 2 is for Early/Late, Deck 3 for Anytime) whenever it suits you.

Early Dining is at 5.30pm, Late Dining is at 7.45pm & anytime is anytime you will be allocated one of these. If you are late for your fixed time dining session you can't just wander up to the anytime dining section. Your only option is the Buffet on deck 9.

  6. No one knows yet. It's only speculation until the schedules are released.

Carnival Legend is scheduled to arrive in Australia from Los Angeles on September 22, 2014 & the 1st Australian cruise will depart from Sydney on September 24, 2014. South Pacific cruises are scheduled up to March 26, 2015 & the Legend is scheduled to leave Australia on April 5, 2015.

  7. I am trying to find out whether the aft bar on deck 9 of the Spirit is part of the adults serenity area or not.

The reason for this, is that we have a group of us, including at least 1 x child, that is looking for an appropriate place to enjoy a "sherbet" when we sailaway from Sydney harbour next month.

Our preference has always been to find a bar area towards the aft so we can enjoy watching the sun set framed by the harbour bridge - eg The Sundowners Bar on Sun Princess.

If the Aft Bar on deck 9 is not subject to the adults only rules then that would suit us fine.... although we may have to venture up to Deck 10 to get the best view.

Please don't flame me about having a child in a bar area... the point is that we want to all be together, and certainly she doesn't drink alcohol ... but plenty of the other stuff :D

    Any clues gratefully accepted

    cheers

The aft bar on Carnival Spirit is on Serenity Deck & is adults only.

  8. This should not be a shock to you The americans have mentioned it ad infinitum that is why they expect to tip BUT in Australian based ships the staff are paid the minimum wage at least

Which of the Australian based ships that pay the Australian minimum wage? Do you really think that if the crew were paid the minimum Australian wage that cruise prices would be as low as they are? Our pay rates don't apply to cruise ships.

  9. I read on a relatively recent review of the Carnival Spirit that you were not permitted to take on board your own power board

On all our previous cruises we have always taken on a power board to charge up mobile phones, computers etc etc. and never had any problems. I well understand the safety issues with kettles and other like appliances, but this seems extreme.

Has anyone else heard of this "policy"? As I said I have only heard of it in a cruise review, never seen anything on the Carnival or any agency web site.

    cheers

This is what Carnival said on their social media page..., power boards without surge protectors are allowed, however any power board that is deemed hazardous will be confiscated on the day.

  10. Only 4 weeks until 60+ Aussies sail on the Splendor. We a group are from LKM Dance Studio in the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia, our dancers are scheduled to perform on board in the afternoon on Saturday 23rd April. We are all excited after picking up our tickets last Friday night & are looking forward to the cruise. The dancers have performances in Hollywood, Universal Studios, at the Ice Hockey at the Stapley Centre LA & 4 performances at Disneyland (1 in the morning before they board the Splendor)

To everyone sailing on April 17, we say G'day ('G' as in goat), that's Aussie for hello. Looking forward to our visit to the USA.
