  1. Interesting that the article uses the terms "steamer" and "ocean liner". I don't think these ships are actually either.

The article mentions "Paquebot" this term is used nowadays for either an ocean liner or a cruise ship. If you want to really specify what kind of ship it is you would use 'Paquebot de ligne' for the ocean liner and 'Paquebot de croisière' for the cruise ship.

Unfortunately automatic translation softwares do not make the difference and use ocean liner/steamer.

  2. I have seen this pop up on FB as well. This is a confirmation of an order, they are only stating that they are negotiating with RCI to build more ships.

The source is a reliable one but they say that the order is firm.

"Good news in prospect for the shipyards of Saint-Nazaire, who negotiate the construction of new giant steamers with the American ship owner Royal Caribbean International"

Regarding Australia as a destination, they do not say that an oasis class will go there, they say that one SHOULD be there by 2020. There is a difference between both.

"Australia should see its first Oasis arrive around 2020"

Sorry but no confirmation at all in that article and certainly no firm orders. Please do not change the meaning of my sentences :)

  3. I have seen this pop up on FB as well. This is by no means a confirmation of an order, they are only stating that STX France are negotiating with RCI to build more ships.

Yes the source is a reliable one but they never say that the order is firm.

"Bonne nouvelle en perspective pour les chantiers de Saint-Nazaire, qui négocient la construction de nouveaux paquebots géants avec l’armateur américain Royal Caribbean International"

Regarding Australia as a destination, they do not say that an oasis class will go there, they say that one SHOULD be there by 2020. There is a difference between both.

"L’Australie devrait ainsi voir arriver son premier Oasis vers 2020"

    P.S: I'm a native French speaker

  4. After having followed this thread during her construction, I wanted to go and see Symphony leave the shipyard, so I drove down to St Nazaire, went on a small boat and followed Symphony from the yard to the open sea.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Lloyd for having updated us with the construction during these last few years, it was amazing to be able to follow every step from the first block to her actually leaving the yard. :)

  5. I thought it might be the cost for a single person paying double, but it's still odd to me that they would get an extra point. Two people paying the same or maybe even a little more wouldn't get the extra point. RC is still getting about the same $$$.

Well you are actually getting 2 points for yourself and 2 points for your DH, so RCI are giving the occupants of the cabin a total of 4 points whereas they would only be giving 3 points when there is only one person staying in the stateroom.

  6. If you have traveled as a single since 2013, check your C&A points. If you booked a double cabin as a single you are entitled to DOUBLE points. Went back and looked at my C&A history since then and 3 cruise had double points and 3 cruises did NOT. A call to the C&A desk resolved it and added 15 points to my count.

They always forget to give me the extra point per night when I travel solo, everytime I get back I have to call them so that they adjust the points.

  7. I don’t get it. Why do this?

They probably didn't have the correct deck plans when they uploaded them and thought that people wouldn't notice the difference between Harmony/Symphony, they then forgot to update them with the latest ones, that's the only reasonable explanation I can think of.

The deck plan on http://www.royalcaribbean.com/symphony-of-the-seas showed the correct version for 2018 when it was working, it now gives a 404 error ...

  8. http://www.royalcaribbeanincentives.com/ship/symphony-of-the-seas/deck-plan/

There they have 2 different deck plans one for the first year and then a second.

Skickat från min iPhone med Forums

The first one looks like Harmony's deck plan (No Starbucks on the promenade, mini bites on fifteen where it should be El Loco,no Hooked seafood on sixteen.. Construction pictures do show that they have been built.).

  9. Weird, I saw this afternoon that the price quoted on the website for my Symphony reservation was cheaper than what I had paid for a few months ago. I called Royal, they quoted me a completely different price (much higher) for the cabin, I told them that I had screenshots to prove what I was saying, the rep gave me his email address so that I could send him the screenshot, once he received it he could still not see the price on his system he then escalated the issue to his superior and called me back within half an hour with the good news that they eventually managed to honor the website price. They are going to give me back the price difference on my credit card and I have also now got 100 dollars in OBC (That was also shown on the website).

Maybe try calling them back, you might get a different rep that will honor the price.

  10. Thanks for that update. Did the link give the details on which tests? This was something I found interesting on a show I watched about these tests. It was inspiring to see the ships capabilities and how they go beyond normal operations. I tried loading that link into google chrome, but the translation didn't work.

No they don't go into the detail of the tests. They just mention that they didn't have enough time to do them all and that those that were done were successful.

They must have done a max speed test as I saw on MarineTraffic that she did 25.1 knots at some point.

  11. After 50 years of traveling Europe i know who likes and does not like Brits.

Last time we were in Santorini waiting for the cable car a family of 20 Italians from our ship pushed their way to the front of the queue and when we tried to stop them several of the women around us got their hair pulled and one man got a cigarette burn on his shirt.

This was the rudist thing ever.

I'm French and I happen to like the Brits.
