  1. I'm just looking forward to re-visiting St Maarten next year (scheduled for the fourth time) and getting back to St Thomas (not scheduled, been twice)/St John (not scheduled, once-loved Trunk Bay).

As I said before -- I'm not denying damage....

NASA? you're kidding right? When it comes to space travel and exploration, they are a top notch organization, but when it comes to climate change, they know how to get funding - continue the myth of man made global cooling, warming, or is it climate change?

these photos don't even pass the smell test - why is the water gray before and blue after, then vice versa in the Virgin Gorda pix? Also, the Virgin Gorda lower island looks greener on the "after' picture.

    Here's a coast guard video: http://heavy.com/news/2017/09/hurricane-irma-st-thomas-virgin-islands-damage-destruction-video/

sure, a lot of destruction, but what do you notice -- all the green grass....

these nasa photos were obviously posted to elicit a response and put forth an agenda...

    Again -- not denying damage

Seriously? You have to be trolling right or either that tinfoil hat is on extra tight.

The spectroradiometer on Aqua and Terra are not exactly the same as Terra is several years older. That's one of the reasons for the channel differences.

You can also find images easily on the web from DigitalGlobe 3 polar orbiters that are very similar showing the vegetative damage. Last I checked DigitalGlobe could care less about climate change.

Here's a quick link for you:

  2. Not about blaming, just wanted to know. I see somebody jumping on this topic with one agenda (not really what the post was about) dumping on a cruise line that they don't cruise on (so it really doesn't effect them). There are many internet trolls that their whole reason to post is to argue with people. Not saying he is, just wondering.

I like to check out post history of people that seem to just be adamantly pushing one agenda and unwilling to even have a discussion to see where they are coming from. In this case, the person seems to not like any cruise lines, and has said may only do land based vacations. If that is the case, then why come over to a RCI board and just push an anti-RCI agenda if you don't even sail with them? I understand that Celebrity and Royal are sister companies.

I didn't read his post (his last long one) as dumping on RCCL at all. It seemed pretty straight to the point to me.

He was much nicer than caribill has been on here, and that's someone who I trust and follow on here even when not posting that much. If he has a real issue with how RCCL handled things then with high certainty it was an absolute world class cluster **** for the ages.

  3. You seem to be posting on and on complaining about RCI and their handling of this, but from your post history, it looks like you don't even cruise RCI (pretty much only celebrity), have sworn off carnival, and seem to not like any cruise lines anymore, as you seem to complain about celebrity all the time as well.. If this is the case, why even come to the RCI board? You just bored?

Here we go pulling the blame the poster tactic.

Of course Celebrity and RCCL do have one teeny tiny thing in common.

  4. I have been posting on RCI's Facebook page the past couple days about what happened to the guests who booked the 8/27 Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston. Had some conversations with a few people who booked the 8/27 sailing who are currently trapped in the Houston or Galveston area, and others booked but not trapped, along with posting links to an online news article of a couple from Oklahoma who was caught up in this mess, and having travel insurance did not help them. There was also a post from a woman asking very politely to please cancel this weekend's cruise along with her reasoning why.

ALL of these posts, along with the others who have been commenting, have been deleted by RCI.

It's not just RCI, but I always found that over moderating on social media leads to more questions than anything else. Sometimes you have to let people go as long as it's civil.

  5. Can we dissolve the insurance discussion please. As I said before every single claim is unique in itself as in the insurance industry there is not one size fits all. There are so many if ands buts...

Meanwhile TS Irma has developed and is projected on a west path to be outside the carribean in around one week.

I see what you did there. :halo:

  6. Common sense has to kick in at some point, and you utter the words "Regardless of what someone in a call center 1000 miles away says, there's no way this cruise is happening. No Way. We can see it on the news. We're not making that drive. We'll just stay home and have our T/A hash it out with the Travel Insurance people if it comes to it (because we NEVER cruise without getting the insurance). Which it won't because there's no way this cruise is happening."

And the reason our T/A is our T/A isn't the OBC or bottle of wine, it's because she'll go to bat for something like that.

For those who "Won't sail with RC again because of how they handled this," we'll happily occupy your cabin while you continue your search for a line that's going to never get anything wrong, seeing as how even the local weather folks are marveling how old Harvey's about to make a second landfall.

Actually this is Harvey's 3rd landfall.

  7. When someone you trust (right or wrong people place a fair amount of trust in RCI) gives you bad information, flat out incorrect/false information, that places you in harms way then yeah it might be their fault. How hard is it for grown adults with at least pedestrian IQs to understand that?

This passive aggressive nuanced thread to somehow take the shine off the RCI **** show is just as bad as the folks who go whining to the concierge 5 times a day.

  8. This is the response I just got to asking what the chances were that they would shift Liberty sailing for 9/3 to Miami instead.

@RoyalCaribbean: @RosieCRN Hi, As of now, Liberty will return to Galveston before her next sailing. No changes have been made to the next itinerary....

The Braves have not been eliminated from playoff consideration yet either.

  9. People now a days are self entitled brats. That is what happens when you are no longer allowed to discipline children- they grow up to be entitled brats that think the world revolves around them and how dare anything interfere with their wants. No sympathy here [emoji3]

Issues resulting from a 50" rain event (which has never occurred in the Continental US before BTW) are because of self entitled brats?

  10. Agree on the insurance.

But when RCI specifically told customers (that were concerned about traveling to the port) to either proceed to the port or to provide photographic evidence that they couldn't make it that's about as piss poor and idiotic as it gets. There's no defending that no matter what level of mental gymnastics one might attempt.

And for folks that don't believe they did just that the screen captures of said texts have been posted on the other threads.

  11. Cindy posted an image of RCI's posts earlier in this thread. Not that I don't trust some people on this board (Cindy has always been great), but I almost had to see it to believe it. It blows my mind that someone representing RCI would say something so idiotic.

Yup. There is nothing than can excuse something so tone deaf and insensitive.

Asking a customer to send photos of flooding, weather reports, or road reports. Do they not have access to social media, TV, etc at RCI corporate? Whatever they are paying their met department is too much.

  12. At least they are well fed and have dry beds to sleep in. I suspect there are people in Texas whose livelihoods will be affected for far more than 2-3 days.

The last C&A e-magazine did a huge article on him.

My concern is consistency of messaging. Why aren't all the cruise lines coordinating together on consistent messaging for passengers?

I work within the weather enterprise and we work very hard to work with our private sector partners and emergency managers to maintain consistent messages and limit confusion and "fog of war" during these types of events. While not directly involved with Harvey, I was closely monitoring it as I have friends that are on the front lines there. IMO, they did a very good job emphasizing the fresh water flooding and heavy rainfall as the primary impacts. Brock Long even emphasized that on Friday with CNN and other media outlets, specifically mentioned 3 to possibly 4 FEET of rain in the Houston area crippling the city.

  13. But I have seen no posts indicating Royal will reimburse expenses for those who flew to Houston and went to Galveston under the threat of losing 100% of their fare if they did not show up.

The choice they had was to either lose 100% of their fare or travel to an area under watch for a severe tropical storm. Since Royal said confidently that the cruise would take place, the choice to make was greatly influenced by Royal.

    Yup.

  14. Actually this is incorrect. They stated when they were going to attempt to dock, weather and port conditions permitting. Each of the updates I read specifically stated to stay away from the port until they advised to do so.

Oh yeah those were real useful. They issued the first of those timely updates AFTER the NWS office in Houston had already issued the first Flash Flood Warning, and days after WPC had painted the area with 25-40 inches of rainfall.

The issued one later that night saying there will still planning to dock on Sunday when parts of the area where under a Flash Flood Emergency and widespread search and rescues were well underway.
