  1. Uber is illegal in Denmark and they closed down a month ago or so, but a regular taxi should be fine or else I have provided a link on the first post to car services.

    And why is it illegal.

First there is the tax question, when the driver doesn't get a real salery how do you tax him.

Second, the driver hasn't taken the taxi driver education/test (don't know what its called in english).

It's their private car so the passengers isn't insured if something happens and its hard to prove if the car is in a good and safe condition.

Ok thank you Danish Viking. :)

  2. From what I've read as long as the pants are over the knee length they are fine. So I think jeans should be ok unless it's a very nice restaurant. A few churches may require covered heads if it's during service. But I'm going from reading the travel guides.

I'm packing one pair of shorts for the ship. The rest cargo pants or comfortable jeans for port days.

  3. I'm sure this has been covered already, so apologies again. But is there a limit on the luggage one can take on the bus(es) say from the hotel to the port? I don't want to be "that guy" who tries to lug a ridiculous amount.

Also, I saw a post in the old thread about Uber not being available in Copenhagen but their website seems to indicate that it is. Would Uber be a good option if one doesn't want to take a bunch of lugage to/from the port? Thanks!

  4. This is not covered by the Copenhagen Card, but I would do the Grand Tour (3 hours) with Copenhagen Free Walking Tours. They begin at 10am, 11 am and 3 pm so you can schedule your other activities around it. You will learn so much about the history and culture of both Copenhagen and Denmark. It was the highlight of our 2 days in Copenhagen. (The guides work for tips.)

    Ok great. Thank you!

  5. Great info in this thread, and already very helpful.

We arrive afternoon of June 1st, full day on June 2nd in Copenhagen and board our ship on the 3rd. Staying at Hotel Christian IV

We bought the 24 hour Copenhagen card mostly to pay for stuff in advance. The current plan is

    1. Tivoli evening one

    2. Rosenberg castle morning of the 2nd

    3. Canal boats

Otherwise we are still planning. Realistically what else would one suggest, be able to fit in on day #2?

  6. Hi all, I've figured out some things. First, my budget is too low as GradUT said. I've upped that to around $200 USD per night. I'd like to have a safe in my room. And the larger room the better (I see many are smallish compared to US perception, it's a European thing). I want to be able to walk to things and not have to train it in, as in staying near the airport. I'd like clean and neat as possible, dislike cluttered and old/outdated. Old hotel is fine, but not old furniture, bed, etc. So...I'm looking at the following:

    - An Airbnb

    - Best Western Hotel City

    - Christian IV

    - Tivoli Hotel

    - Avenue Hotel

    Thoughts?

We have booked Hotel Christian IV for June 1-3 The reviews are pretty good, looks to be in a slightly quieter area, and the management has been quite responsive to email.

  7. I would definitely not book a ship excursion in SPB when the local tour operators are so good. There are hundreds of reviews and recommendations on this thread, so have a look through.

You can contact some of the companies with no obligation.

Ditto this. Recommend a local operator. We've worked with Alla tours.

  8. So somewhat complicated question. We are flying in a couple of days early and have hotel reservations at Hotel Christian IV.

We are booked on a 9 night Baltic (NCL). Logistically, we've decided to stay a night at the end of our cruise as well, currently booked at the Crowne Plaza since it's closer to the airport and our flight leaves early.

Does anyone have a suggestion for sites outside city center on our last day? IOW, say we drop our bags off after debarkation at Crowne Plaza and check out something we probably wouldn't have seen in city center before the cruise.

Also, what are the must sees during our stay downtown? Is the Copenhagen Card worth it? We are traveling with out 15 yo daughter. I'll also read through this great thread for info.

    Thx.

  9. We are booked to stay here one night post cruise next September. Oddly, in trying to make my reservation 3 weeks ago, the Crown Plaza was the only hotel available the night we needed at a reasonable price. Every other hotel I tried either has no rooms avaiable even tho its a year in advance (both Marriotts and the Hilton) or the price was at least 1,000DKK more than Crown Plaza. It seems to have gotten good reviews on Trip Advisor but wanted to see what you have to say. How is the location? Was it easy to get from the port to the hotel? Is the hotel nearby to the major sites? Any info you can provide is greatly appreciated.:)

I'm sorry I just saw your question. I'm not on here all too often.

We actually ended up booking Hotel Christian IV since it is in the city center. But no A/C.

The Crown Plaza is close to the airport but you will need to take public transport to get to city center. The Wondeful Copenhagen thread has tons of info.

  10. Thank you everyone for the detailed information. This is great.

First cruise to the Baltic for us next year, though I've been to Estonia on business in the past.

Definitely sounds like the preferred route in St. Petersburg (we are there 2 days) is an arranged tour.

BTW...the Copenhagen thread by Danish Viking is amazing. We are spending a couple of days there before leaving on our cruise. The info on there is great!

    Much appreciated.

  11. Even if I included the gratuities, I would still be saving almost $200 picking NCL over Celebrity. But then, I'd be spending more on Celebrity, because I would be leaving tips for beverages and dining, since it is not included.

We actually switched from a Christmas cruise last year on NCL to Celebrity and saved over $500 on the fare alone.

Typically NCL is cheaper but Celebrity runs some competitive deals and is a great bang for the buck. Right now we are booked on NCL to Europe next year but will certainly be watching RCCL and Celebrity prices.
