  1. I have done this tour. The Palace was good but many stairs - ended over the Bridge of Sighs. I knew I would be disappointed by the gondola ride and I was right. 6 people per gondola and did not feel very safe but it's off my bucket list.

  2. My wife gets the "mal de mer" just a little - and finds that christalised ginger smooths her stomach down ( I suspect it to be more mind over matter !! :) ) -- but anyhow - we can remember that at least one of the Cunard ships had a bowl of ginger at the entrance to Britannia Dining Room, but can't remember which ship.

Anybody got better memories than us??

They had ginger at Brittania exit this Xmas on QE

  3. Ray66 posted a pcture of a door sticker, previously in this thread. It read:

"To maintain a comfortable climate in your stateroom please keep you balcony door closed."

which is not at all the same as "doors must not be left open".

The sticker (although I have never seen one) makes sense. If it is very hot or very cold, your room will be very hot or very cold, if you leave your door open. If the weather is lovely outside and you leave your door open, your room will be lovely inside.

As much as I love the sea, I am from Seattle where it is almost always quite temperate and can't stand much heat or cold (except when I am bundles up to ski) so it would never occur to me to keep my door open when temperatures aren't lovely. Fortunately, temperatures have almost always been lovely on all of our cruises.

I've finally realised the point of your posts. It's to wind us up, or to translate into American, make silly comments to annoy us.

  4. This is the information I have:

"Ebola spreads through close contact with a symptomatic person's bodily fluids, such as blood, sweat, vomit, feces, urine, saliva or semen. Those fluids must have an entry point, such as a cut or scrape or someone touching the nose, mouth or eyes with contaminated hands, or being splashed. The World Health Organization says blood, feces and vomit are the most infectious fluids, while the virus is found in saliva mostly once patients are severely ill. The whole live virus has never been culled from sweat."

Since I don't know or kiss anybody with Ebola, I am not particularly worried.

I suppose the threat of terrorism does not concern you either as I assume you do not know/kiss terrorists either. Keep on worrying about your dance shoes though.

  5. When I checked with Cunard today a very helpful agent reiterated what we were told by the Future Cruise Sales Office. The deposit is good for any cruise except a world cruise, is combinable with all OBC and can be used for up to two years.

Of course, that is for US citizens. I would not be at all surprised if the rules vary from location to location.

You are wrong - in the US it's good for 4 years. Very different T&Cs in UK.

  6. Hi Scrapnana,

I asked this question a little while ago on QM2, I was told (and have no idea if this is correct or just a version of the facts) that they scan everyone's on-board card as you board the shuttle bus using a small hand-held card reader. Those who should be charged, are. Those who shouldn't be, aren't! At least that is what I was told.

All best wishes to you :)

    Quite correct.

  7. You might have had a more interesting conversation had you discussed drying laundry on the balcony with the Captain.

It seems I must explain this comment to you.

Had you informed the Captain of your joyous experiences of hanging washing on your balcony I believe he would have been horrified and told you this is not allowed. Apart from any other reasons, if others followed your example the ship would soon look like a Sicilian apartment building. Most apartment buildings here do not allow it as it is unsightly and usually only seen in low income areas.

  8. We love, love, love free internet, but the laundry perk is pretty silly: A 20% discount that only kicks in AFTER you have spent all of your Onboard Credit.

We carefully ration out our OBC to cover the length of the cruise. We almost always have enough to cover additional internet time, our auto-tips, wine for dinner every night, and whatever extras we need.

Now that we have started purchasing the Cunard FCC, we will have an additional $600 for a total of $1,350.00 to start--$500 military, $250 stockholder, and $600 FCC--a 14+ day cruise, even before we consider any special promotions or Travel Agent gifts, which is more than enough to cover the laundering of DH's tux shirts. Everything else I wash by hand.

We have a special cruise wardrobe of very fast-drying travel clothes, including underwear, that makes doing hand laundry very simple. Moreover, I love the smell of clothes that are dried in the sun on the deck, and whenever we travel, whether by land, sea, or air, I love having mostly clean clothes throughout the entire trip, and hate returning home with a bunch of dirty laundry.

When we get to Platinum, it will be fun to know we will be invited to the Senior Officers' Party. At this point we have to see if we somehow magically get an invitation. We are happy when we do, because we enjoy parties. Last time I had a great chat with the Captain about the difficulties of using BA miles for international first-class travel. They really soak you with heavy fees and taxes--far more than any other airline.

You might have had a more interesting conversation had you discussed drying laundry on the balcony with the Captain.

  9. I think she was winding Cunard up. Did you ever see her pushed to the Queens Room in a wheelchair by a staff member, dance with the hosts for 45 mins. and then call to be pushed back to her cabin? I guess at her age you have to save your energy for what's important. I couldn't help but like her.

  10. You get half price laundry, where do you get free internet? Are you talking about lines like silver seas? Which ships can you get it on ex UK?

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

Cunard gives you several hours of free internet time depending on how many times you have cruised with them.

  11. All decks are reached by both stairs and lifts throughout the ship.:) You can check the deck plans on the Cunard site and see the lifts and stairs.

    B.

I think XXPRIMROSE was referring to level 4 in Britannia dining room. I believe it's only accessible by 2 short sets of stairs.
