  1. Number one on the list should have been

Thou shalt not be rude or give attitude to the staff behind the counters!

Some people are absolute clods. Several mornings I left the toasting station shaking my head at the impatience and nastiness of a person ahead of me in line. Try uttering the words "good morning", "please" and "thank you".

I so agree! On my recent Century cruise, I cringed at the "give me this" attitude of fellow cruisers, with no 'thankyou' afterwards. It was lovely to receive a big wide smile from the servers when I would ask politely for something and say 'thank you so much' in return.

  2. The ad makes me cringe. 'Cruiselings'? I don't think it's clever and the ad makes me even more determined to never cruise on a P&O Australia ship.

Now , when I watch the 'Take Me Away' ad from the 80s on YouTube, that still works it's magic on me. One of the best Australian ad campaigns of all time.

  3. Several years ago on the old Regal Princess, we had the most hideous noise that would come and go. It was always worse during the night. We persevered, sleepless, for the first few nights, sleeping on deck during the day. We complained and they sent staff but no one came whilst the noise was occurring so they thought we were making it up. Then, we started going into the theatre about 1am and sleeping on the bench seats there. Security found us 1 night and then they began to take us seriously. They offered us sleeping pills and red wine!!!! And ear plugs, which I took. They monitored the cabin more closely and FINALLY they heard the noise. We were then moved to a balcony cabin for the last 3 nights and they told us the cabin would be out of service for the next cruise also......

  4. On my cruise, main age group was 40-60, but lots of older people too and several large groups if young adults and many family groups.

Interactive theme parties involve either the cruise directors team and/or the singers and dancers putting on a small show.afterwardspassengers can then join in the dancing to the live band. They often did a themed line d ance prior to the show.

These are usually held in the Crystal Room but there was also a deck party one night.

I think you will be lucky and have CD John Grantham on his last cruise. This is the 2nd time we have cruised with him and he is the best. He runs fabulous music trivia

  5. Just off Century this week and it was a pretty lively cruise. However, Celebrity dont offer a lot of organised daytime activities other than bingo and trivia. There are no arts and crafts classes etc. There are numerous 'seminars' where the spa people are flogging their services and the usual art auctions.

There are nightly shows in the theatre and on several nights 'interactive' theme parties...70s, 50s etc.

The DJ was great and the nightclub always got a good crowd.

The crew remarked it was one of the most lively and enjoyable cruises for sometime. Hope yours is the same.

  6. I'm just off Century and can report that all the fogged up windows have finally been replaced. A group of workmen replaced several windows each time the ship was in port. I guess they are starting on some of the easier refurb work before she ends up in Singapore for her pre handover dry dock.

The crew were wonderful and overall, Century was in excellent condition.

  7. I work for a worldwide travel wholesaler that books private transfers. Yesterday, we received several calls from US and UK pax off Solstice who missed their transfers as they did not know that the drivers were down in Hickson Road - the drivers were not allowed to leave their vehicles unattended for very long. By the time pax gave up waiting and called us , the drivers had already gone (they wait 45mins). Not a nice welcome to Sydney for them.

it would be good to have a sign or better still, a person directing prebooked transfer passengers to the areas where the vehicles are.
  8. poor little Century :( So sad to think a dignified older lady is going to be subject to (most likely) a ghastly tarting up by her new Chinese owners. I'll never forget what happened to the SS Oriana after she was sold to the Chinese - it was unrecognizable after they had finished 'refurbishing' her (then they left her to die and sink ..)

I'll be on her one more time in 2 months and will savour every moment.

I'm also very sorry for the people who have had their plans to sail on her to Rome crushed. I'm sure many of those people are past passengers and friends of Century and wanted to see her out in style. Now, she is going to slink back to Singapore and whatever future awaits her.
