  1. The excursion in which I was the waterfall.  The Dominican Republic was my favorite destination of my entire trip.  Read all about why in this latest installment of my trip report.  Follow my blog to ensure you don't miss out on an installment.  Clicking here will unlock a whole bunch of short videos, pictures, and a bit of my story.

Sure.  agreed.  Not an issue, was just curious.  As a security photo, it struck me that without glasses in the photo you can look quite different, so I thought it would have required security personnel to ask you to take your glasses off when embarking/disembarking to make sure it was you vs. the photo !

I was surprised by the same thing a week or so ago. I'm in complete agreement with everything you've said. But, I will roll with the punches.

  3. Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me out.  I am leading a roll call here on CruiseCritic and already have made contact and arranged for a Meet and Mingle via specialevents <shipname>@ncl.com.  We also have planned a slot pull and a bar crawl for our sailing.  What would be the email addresses for the person in charge of the casino on prima and what would be the email for the person in charge of the bars/lounges on prima?  We would like to give them a heads up especially to staff appropriately and request any assistance we may need.  Thank you in advance for the help you are providing.

    All my best,

I'm fairly certain that when someone talks about a "Single Suite" on NCL, they have booked an actual "Suite/Haven Suite" and paid the Single Supplement price.  But, maybe Prima will have something new that I haven't learned about yet!

    Sorry Ginger,

All of Prima's accomodations have been published for public perusal.  The only cabin for a party of one is the inside studio, very much like all the previous ones.  Any other type of room you would have to pay double occupancy.  The difference on the Prima is that it no longer is a split bath.  It is an ensuite bathroom with the toilet, shower, glass door, window, and sink are in the same room.  There is a lounge for solo passengers.  It is not entirely clear how the lounge is situated.  Based on the deck plans I would guess it is located on Deck 12.  The Prima studio is slightly smaller at 95 square feet/9 square meters.  The pictures of the lounge are very inviting.

    Nothing really new.

would this apply for the 2021 Alaska cruises?

Your question caused me to think a bit.  I realized the plan I quoted you is rather dated.  It is from a time when there wasn't a vaccine available.  Norwegian has said that they are going to require all passengers to have a vaccine.  So really all bets are off at this point.  If vaccinated passengers don't have to wear masks in outdoor areas, if other safety measures get removed from vaccinated passengers, then wouldn't it follow that limited capacity might not exist for 2021 Alaska cruises?  Good luck especially considering the court case between CDC and Florida and the possible implications for Alaska cruisers.  While I feel bad for the cruisers, I feel especially bad for those from Alaska whose livelihood depends on tourism making a go of it in Alaska.  Only people on the inside of the Norwegian Cruise Line could answer that one for you.

  6. My understanding of NCL's plan is to start a ship at 60% capacity and then every week or two increase the capacity by 10%.  This means, in theory, barring any mishaps, each ship should reach full capacity within two months of operating.  No one has a crystal ball and can definitively tell you how it all will happen.  I mean who on March 2020 thought there would still be a cruising ban in place come June 2021 in the US?

So, what do we not currently know as of yet?

    Food:

    - Is there a main dining room?

    - Is there a buffet or is the Indulge Food Hall taking its place?

    - Is there a casual walk up style food offering near the pools (I suspect The Local or Food Hall)

    - Will The Local be 24 hours like on other ships?

    - Will there be other specialty restaurants besides Onda and Los Lobos? (i.e. Le Bistro, Cagney's).

    Ocean Boulevard:

    - Are the infinity pools on both sides of the ship adults only, aka the new Spice H20? or are they an extra charge, aka the new Vibe?

    - Is the Indulge Outdoor Lounge open to everyone or does require an extra charge?

    Top Deck:

    - will there be the rumored go-kart track around the funnel?

    - will there be a "main pool" in the traditional sense?

    - what else is going up there?

    Entertainment:

    - we know nothing! 🙂

    what else did I forget?

You forgot children's facilities, is there going to be kid's clubs? Do they get a splash/water park?

You mentioned them but will there be a Spice H2O or a Vibe?

Definitely booking one of the Norway/Iceland itineraries. This has been on my bucket list and almost booked with another line. Glad I waited. Do you think the prices will hold steady, or will we see a drop? I haven’t seen prices drop on any sailings.

First, the newest ship in the fleet always commands the highest prices, in general.  Second, pricing is always driven by supply and demand.  Third, the halt on cruising has put a big hole in ncl's pockets and they need to regain some $$$.  I think once the entire fleet is up and running creating more supply, you might see a little bit of a dip down in price you could take advantage of, but not much. The new design that I've seen in the two videos I've seen published reminds me of other cruise lines like Celebrity.  I think if you time it right you could have an incredible adult getaway.  Enjoy and let us all know your thoughts when you get back.  I'm very curious about all of the features that they did not discuss.  That Scandinavian itinerary looks amazing.

  9. I just used logic to answer the crossing the dateline question.  Thankfully reading all of the destination material didn't take me very long at all.  If you've done one of these types of quizzes you pretty much can predict what the questions will be about.  The quizzes definitely do their job in peaking my interest.  Now I want to take a Japanese class to prepare.

  10. I absolutely do not want to go.  First, I knew three people who have died from COVID-19.  Additionally, I know several who have survived but thought that the experience in the hospital was excruciating. They thought they were going to die when they were in the hospital.  Dying alone in the hospital is painful emotionally on top of all of the physical symptoms you are experiencing.  I do not want to put myself in added risk of being that sick.  One friend of mine still experiences issues even after recovering months from having corona virus.

Furthermore, I still have not done enough cruises that destinations do not matter to me.  I am an explorer and want to investigate the destinations.  Probably the only destinations these test voyages will visit are private islands. I am sure going to a completely manufactured experience can be very entertaining.  It is just less of what I'm after.

As others have touched on, I don't have an interest in setting foot on an airplane at this time.  Personally, I don't understand why cruising has to jump through all of these hoops and the airline industry does not.  More than likely I would need to go on an airplane to reach my departure point.  That whole process of airports and airlines would make me too anxious and agitated.

I am perfectly fine wearing a mask since I wear one whenever I leave the house for months.  It's like second nature at this point.

I wish all those who are selected to go on test cruises much joy and safety.  It is because of these brave souls that I will be able to cruise eventually.  To them I say, "Thank you".
