  1. I have my BC from when I was first born (1950) and it's obviously a B&W print off a micro-film. It does have a raised seal and a certifying signature in purple. It even says it's not valid unless signed in purple. I also have a newer one that follows the new California standard for County Recorders, which is a full 8 x 11 on multi-collared paper (mostly pink and blue). It does not have a raised seal, but it does have an engraved border and says it's not an original unless the border is engraved. I know this is the standard BC for CA counties. Not sure if this is for all states.

We have traveled with grandkids from 18 months and even though we don't need a passport we got one for him. Our travel agent made it real clear that cruising is not an issue, but if you have to fly home from a foreign port it will be.

Beside, we are getting ready to cruise with the 18 month old who will be seven and needs a new one and the photo alone on the original issue is priceless.

You think BC are a problem? Try being born overseas to US citizen parents while stationed abroad ie: military base. The State Department now issues certificates, but in the old days the base commander issued some type of form with no numbers and no way to verify.

  2. Buy the tags from CC store. I just used the wide ones for our Carnival Dream cruise and they were perfect. Yes, I had to cut the print out as otherwise all that paper made them too thick to slip in. I used them on the flight but used a business card and then slipped the cruise tag in at the hotel before going to the port. Not sure I would do that again as I got concerned the tags weren't sturdy enough for airlines handlers. I just bought 8 more for the upcoming family cruise on the Oasis and will give them to all the kids.

  3. Any internet at sea will be via the ships provider and you will have to pay the per minute rate. I found it to be very slow and used it seldom for anything other than quick email. Attempting to text or email photos was impossible. I was able to email small videos and photos. But would get kicked out if I tried to text them. If in a US port like St Thomas or San Juan you can probably connect as normal at least we did with ATT.

  4. To explain a little. If in a spa cabin you have to check in at reception when you go in. They swap your room key for a white cloud 9 key and you will get a white elastic arm band to keep during the cruise. The white card gets you into the restricted spa guest only areas. Otherwise anybody can just walk into the gym and gym locker room or walk on through to the glass elevator. Be aware don't leave your white card in your spa robe pocket and wander. I started to go out a door by the steam room and just about locked myself outside.

Also there is an unmarked door at the end of our hallway I found by accident the takes you into the co ed sauna room area. No card key needed. So I guess that sauna room is open to non spa deck guest. It wasn't very big.

If you want the shortest walk do those few starboard cabins on 12.

  5. If on 12 you will be on the same deck as the spa entrance. We were steps away. She shouldn't have an issues as the main elevators go to 12. There is a small glass elevator inside the spa area that will take you up to the serenity area on 14 and 15. There is some cover over the balcony but it depends on the suns location how much shade you get. We never found it to be an issue. I would go for 12207 or 12209 as nobody can stand at the deck railing above you. They really can't see any thing as the hull angles in, but you can hear the conversations. She will find the showers in the spa locker room much better DW used them rather than the cabin shower.

  6. We just sailed the Dream two weeks ago and our friends had a cove I think it was 2285. They never complained of any noise and they loved being close to the water even though we never saw an sea life. I don't think the dividers can be opened as they looked pretty solid to me and I think they close them all up if you get heavy seas.

We were on the spa deck #12 and spent every day at the Serenity adults only area. We lucked out and got one of the two hammocks five of our seven days. But there are plenty of nice quite comfortable places to sit if you get up there before 10:00.

I believe you can also smoke on the Lido or maybe Lani deck some where. There was a small club area on deck 4 just behind the photo shop that was suppose to be a cigar bar. We went in there and it was a nice quite area with plenty of nice seating. It looked like at one time it might have been a cigar bar with scotch and whiskey, but there was never anybody in there and no sign of cigars or booze for sale.
