  2. THE IRISH CHRISTENING

Paddy's pregnant sister was in a terrible car accident and went into a deep coma.

After being in a coma for nearly six months, she woke up and saw that she was no longer pregnant.

Frantically she asked the doctor about her baby.

The doctor replied, “You had twins, a boy and a girl. The babies are fine.

However they were poorly at birth and had to be christened immediately, so your brother

Paddy came in and named them.”

The woman thought to herself, ‘Oh suffering Jesus no; not me brother. He's a clueless idiot! ‘

Expecting the worst, she asked the doctor, “Well, what's my daughter's name?”

    “Denise.” said the doctor.

The new mother was somewhat relieved and thought to herself,

‘Wow, that's a really beautiful name.

I guess I was wrong about my brother. I really like Denise.'

Then she asked, “What's the boy's name?”

    The doctor replied: “Denephew.”

  4. Looks lovely Stevie - sure you'll have a great time. :)

For the first time in many years we're doing a land based holiday this year too. We're really looking forward to it - it will make a nice change and what's more we've just gone for B&B so that we can be totally flexible and try out some of the local eating places and go out on excursions during the day without necessarily having to get back for evening meal (or sail aways!) So something very different for us and you this year. But I don't think we'll give up on cruising though - too hooked!

omg :eek:Kruzee not cruising, what will we do about your detailed reviews ?

then I shall have to venture forth myself  and as it will be our Pearl anninvers (is that 10 yrs ) so push the boat out

  5. I remember a cruise on the Dream

We were sharing a table with a young couple who were celebrating (as we all do) the waiters who noticed the couple(think they were the swingers in Benidorm) descended on our table in great numbers, napkins everywhere galore, and then the guitars and banjos and singing arrived ching ching donkety donk ………….. Me starving,"May I have some soup please?” I asked napkin in hand petrified and a guitar string in my ear

More………. you want more the burly waiter asked?..... and then I woke up in our cabin after a nice pre dinner nap and went to the Lido buffet ;)

  6. I would agree completely with Len's very comprehensive rundown on the dress code. I was a bit bothered before our first trip with them too.

DH took his DJ for formals (nice and easy no difficult decisions there!) but took a linen jacket with shirt/ties for semiformal and short sleeved button through shirts and chino style trousers for smart casual.

(Funny story - Oddly on Cunard for semi formal if gents arrived at the MDR with a nice shirt and tie the head waiter brought a jacket to hang on the back of their chairs to 'conform' with the dress code - jacket to be handed back to him at the end of the meal!. How stupid was that? Even more odd was that you didn't have to wear a tie! So a jacket and open neck shirt was deemed smarter than long sleeve shirt and tie! Daft!)

I digress..... also it may differ from cruise to cruise - our last one to the Caribbean was four formal and all the rest smart casual. They'd dropped the intermediate semi formal. Think that was to do with the itinerary or fly/cruise luggage allowance aspect but it may reflect changing attitudes.

As for the ladies, yes there were a few who looked a bit prom dressish/ball gown style but a very, very small minority. Most had long dresses, skirts, shorter dressy dresses, smart trousers with pretty tops, maxi dresses - even Caribbean style long almost beach style dresses. Anything appeared to be acceptable as long as it was a nod to having dressed up a bit. I take a couple of long dresses, a long skirt with sparkly top and some smart black trousers I can team with 2/3 different tops then smart crops and pretty tops. In fact exactly what I take on Thomson!

So really no need to stress - although I know I did before I'd seen how it all worked out.

Good grief  Kruzee has used a different font on this post, :Dwhat will become of us, all this mean we are all having now to go onto ...facebook

help me I am drowning in social media sites, except this is the best forum

  7.

I found myself in a pub in Cork. A group of American tourists came in.

One of the Americans said, in a loud voice, "I hear you Irish think you are great drinkers.

I bet 5,000 euros that no-one here can drink 30 pints of Guinness in 30 minutes."

The bar was silent, the American noticed one Irishman leaving, no-one took up the bet.

40 minutes later the Irishman who left returned and said "Hey Yank, is your wee bet still on?"

"Sure" said the American, "30 pints in 30 minutes for a bet of 5,000 euros."

"Grand, " replied the Irishman, "so pour the pints and start the clock."

It was very close but the last drop was consumed with 2 seconds to spare.

"OK Yank, pay up." said the Irishman..

"I'm happy to pay, here's your money" said the American.

"But tell me, when I first offered the wager I saw you leave. Where did you go?'

The Irishman replied, "Well sir, 5,000 euros is a lot of money to a man like me, so I went to the pub across the road to see if I could do it."

  9. Omg . memories with Decca: Ireland, Outer Hebrides(Barra) Holland, Germany, Iran, UAE,SA all beer and accommodation provided

What a lucky chap I was for 7 years, the best company to work for at the time (between 23 to 30yrs old) :)

Sorry OP well off subject, however the photos of what I have seen are in my brain for as long as it continues ;)

    Geo what are negatives? :D

    Stevie

  10. OMG Geo your last post has brought back many memories( re your ref to Falklands)

I worked for the Decca Navigation company at that time whilst on duty in SA

One of the chaps I worked with had a full map of the world on the wall of the dining/mess area with models of ships and aircraft moved about on a daily basis (using magnets and things)

Every day he updated that map, when he saw the broadcast on BBC re” I counted them all out and all back” he went potty and we did not see him for 3 days !

  11. Do not, I repeat do not walk about with sprouts anywhere, not even if you have eaten them Dining on the Dream you are allowed one sprout/ week on b2b cruise you may get three,at each port you dock they have trained dogs to check if you are carrying any such veg. and some are dressed as carrots Plse do be aware this is a serious issue

In Ashdod the other year on a relocation (on ye old good ship Celebration from Egypt thru Suez Canal) when we docked in the Israel port the immigration peeps came aboard to check everyones passport with and crew member after this one to one check ..you finaly had to go through………….sprout control……be warned

Geo will understand all this

    Stevie:)

  12. These things are probably more frequent that we realize..

Fractured derv fuel line leaking onto a hot exhaust manifold for example. With x numbers of engines it means more fuel lines and more exhausts and more engineers running round with the oily rags and spanners tightening things up and keeping it all tickety boo. Law of averages and all that.

The crew and passengers were probably brought to muster stations simply as a precaution in case the standard drill in things like this fails to work.

The Italian Costa disaster means the topic is newsworthy hence the fact it was reported.

Good training for the crew and hotel staff though. Nothing focuses the mind in how to be efficient in doing the thing for real.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fred Olsen spokeswoman Rachael Jackson said at no point were holidaymakers asked to don life jackets or gather at muster stations, as the situation was contained by crew members.

  13. The 787 Dreamliner Flight Tracker is a simple yet robust site that shows the current location of every 787 Dreamliner around the world. Not only does it provide a real-time list of current flights, but you can click on their Google Earth view to see an impressive use of the Google Earth Plugin that shows off the flight paths and locations:

    http://flig*******er.newairplane.com/

Once on the map of planes, you can select one of them to get a real-time view of that flight. You’ll see a 3D model of the plane (customized for each airline), with multiple views to select. It even provides sound to make the experience more realistic.
