  1. For anyone who’s done this type of cruise (Ireland and Iceland) which side of the ship would be better to have a balcony on? It looks like Ireland would be on the left side of the ship going up towards Iceland so there might be more to see on that side? But at Iceland it looks like there would be more to see on the right side of the ship?

Do people have a preference? I know for Disney cruises people like to be on a certain side in the Caribbean to see the private island when docked. I’m just wondering if one side is favored more than the other. If we do go with the balcony we will probably hang out there on sea days a lot

I cant recommend the side for this itinerary but on Silhouette we like cabins forward on starboard side (right) deck 9. We enjoy watching the docking and can easily see into the wing bridge as the officers and pilot command the operation. Bring binoculars for an even better view.

  2. I usually price it or at least double check the pricing on one of the third party websites. I agree with you that Celebrity's website is not too great.

The Celebrity website is awful! Are you reading this Madam President? Try looking at the temerity which scrolls across where you can't view it all at one time. Just a hot mess with a main focus on photography. Shame we all have to use 3rd party sites to get real information in an easy to use format.

  3. Thank you all for so much helpful information! I’m all the more excited for our October cruise now. Everything sounds so good from the quiet spots to the delicious food choices to the suite perks to the no kids in the solarium pool and what can be said about too much ice cold vodka! Only hitch I see thus far is that it might be tough to get coffee early in the morning. I’m not sure calling room service at 5am is my fave idea but if it’s the only solution....

You can preorder in room breakfast or just a pot of coffee and/or tea using a hang tag the night before. We almost always have breakfast on our balcony, weather permitting.

Also, there's a coffee station in the public area where the card tables are located.

We love sailing Celebrity and it usually great itineraries that bring us back again.

  4. There's no problem except here. People who know how to dress for dinner in a nice dining room and look nice will and those who don't won't, no matter what anyone says.

We have been cruising for many years and no one used to need an interpreter to tell them how to dress for dinner. Seems kind of ridiculous to me.

    Exactly.

  5. " is held in a specified lounge for that ship and sailing. "

unless there are too many Elite/Elite+/Zeniths aboard to fit comfortably into that lounge, then they issue 3 drink vouchers per person per night to be used in various bars around the ship.

We've never experienced this either. Maybe on our b2b cruises in 2019 from Abi Dhabi to Shanghai.

  6. Just curious. Not familiar with Celebrity seapass cards......what do the different colors indicate?

Recent cruise we had blue cards and our status was shown in the upper right corner. Saw gold cards,

green I think, maybe a couple others.

    "Inquiring minds want to know."

I think i am correct that color matches the kind of cabin you are in.

  7. Hi - I'm interested in using those two sea days between Oman and India (we are going eastbound in 2019) so I'd like details please. Please contact me using my gmail address and my cruise critic name so that is sbrayr located at gmail.

    Thanks

I agree with you Jim, doing it yourself is the way to go! It's a little work, but it's worth it!

I was on the same sailing as you and did something similar. We went to all four ports of call in India, but debarked the ship in Mumbai. We were picked up from the pier in Mumbai for a short, private tour of the city prior to being dropped off at the airport. From there, we flew to Delhi, where we were picked up for a private drive to Agra. We stayed in Agra for the night and went to the Taj Mahal at sunrise (which was definitely ideal - it was still cool and there weren't many tourists at all which made be excellent pictures). However, we didn't opt for the professional photographer - our private guide actually took a lot of pictures of us and since I'm sure he does it every day, the pictures were excellent! (Food for thought if anyone else is considering going because the photographer is reasonably expensive... but then again, the Taj Mahal is a 7 Wonder of the World!). Like Jim, we were able to go back to our hotel for breakfast and to refresh prior to going to the Agra Fort. At the end of the day, we went back to Delhi for the night.

The next day, we toured around the city of Delhi, which is quite an interesting city! We were brought back to the hotel late afternoon to refresh and then to check-out, and were then brought to the airport, where we flew to Muscat at night.

We spent that night in Muscat, and in the morning were picked up for a private tour of Muscat, prior to being dropped off at the port to reboard the ship.

I'm really glad that we visited the Taj Mahal in this fashion. Everything was private (private transportation, private tours, etc.), and we never felt rushed. As well, we were able to experience all ports in India, and only missed two sea days (oh well! I've had dozens and dozens of sea days before). The cost, similar to Jim, was about 1/3 of the Celebrity price.

Another alternative for anyone looking to add the Taj Mahal to their cruise experience.

  8. We are cruising on Grandeur (our first time on this ship) in a few days, and really looking forward to it. First time in a JS which will be nice for our 12 day S. Car. (longest cruise for us). The first cabin we booked had the pole so we switched cabins. Booked over a year ago and only read good things. Thanks for all the additional info here.

I'll be sure to get back with a review.... can't wait.

How can you determine if the cabin has the pole?

  9. Hi,

We love the Havana Club brown rhum, 7 years old. Price depends on where you buy it but expect to pay about 12 to 15 CUC.

You can also get an older reserva, but it is a matter of taste.

    Have a great trip

Exactly our favorite too. Havana Club 7 year Anejo.

  10. In April the cruise ships are packed with families for spring break, even Celebrity. On a five day from Miami on Constellation (I think) there were almost 600 children. The crew was exhausted because so many cabins were 3 or 4 people. I love kids but will never do Caribbean again that time of year.

  11. Some noise from above particularly where the sliding door separates the indoor pool from outdoor pool but it wasn't horrible and was only at certain times of day. Not much at night.

Our greatest disappointment is the pool deck overhang that creates a cave feeling on the balcony. We like to look up at stars and moon.

  12. Random is just that. Random. And the reaction of the searchee can actually lead to further detainment, something I observed at the Barcelona airport. Persons did not want to be body searched in a private room and pitched a ranting fit. They missed their flight!!! Don't know what happened to them. Kill 'em with kindness.

  13. Has anyone ever tried to purchase the tickets in advance from the RENFE websight? We read Spanish but it doesn't seem to let us purchase them? Now we read that you can buy them through a broker but that ups the price considerably! Any help would be appreciated!

At the top of the page is the word "Welcome." Click that link and the page translates to English.

  14. We're booked on the inaugural cruise May 25th of the Star Legend. Exciting. Have never attended a christening before. Just booked air; final payment due in <4 weeks. Have to start looking at shorex.

    Hi,

We are also on the Star Legend Rome to Barcelona departing May 25 booked in category S2 Cabin 201 near the forward deck. That's our "balcony." Looking forward to our first Windstar cruise.
