  1. 400? its like 50.00 per day to upgrade to a balcony.

what deck are you in in that obstructed view cabin? Doors are located to the side-- people slam those all day long

We're on the 7th deck. No obstruction as far as view goes. We've taken the 4j cabins quite a few times. You can usually hear the door slam during the day (which isn't a problem), but at night no one's out there (typically).

  2. I was able to find the cost below on a website I use sometimes... ;) Cost is per person. I think this is your sailing..

    It is. Thank you!!

  3. How much would it cost to upgrade without the offer? If $400 is less, I'd say go for it. What do you think would be fair?

I'm frugal and like to have comparisons. If I paid $300 for my int. and it would be an additional $400 for the balcony. However, the initial price for the balcony was $700 I'd say no or I'd have booked it in the first place. Yet, if I booked my int. at like $500 and the balcony was $1200 and now I could get the balcony for $900 (initial $500 plus $400), I'd see it as a savings of $300. I hope that makes sense. This also assumes you believe a balcony is worth $400.

Its so funny you say that! As soon as I had the offer the first thing I did was try to do a mock booking with a balcony. Unfortunately the website shows them sold out so I can't get a price to compare. I guess I shouldn't sweat it too much. We're only in the room for about 20% of the time.

  4. Welcome to Cruise Critic!

You wll see this topic over and over. And it makes me kinda angry. "Class" has nothing to do with what cruiseline you are on. You can act with class whether you're on a 3 day or an around the world itinerary. That said, over and over people say yes a longer cruise means less kids and less partiers. Frankly, I've done a 7-day Alaskan on Princess and 3 shorter ones on Carnival and seen nothing crazy on any of them. Actually it's been tamer than the bars at home.

My cousin has done two cruises out of Charleton because it's driving distance for him. He spent a whopping $100 on drink on his cruise so that's the extent of his party/drinking experience onboard.

I would advise not picking "Fall break" from USC, ECU or any close by schools for your time to cruise if you're really concerned.

Very true. There are always "those guys" no matter where you go. I've cruised 15 times through Carnival. People are people. Some drink, some don't, but most are just good people looking to enjoy their vacation. Give it a try. I would take a short cruise (the one that people are trying to steer you away from) so you can see what they would call the "worst of the worst". I think you'd be pleasantly surprised.

  5. I always wondered how truthful the people were that were filling them out anyway. I'm sure there were several people that said they were fine when they had a cold or were coming down with something.

I'm not going to lie... once we had a cruise booked and I had some form of a virus. No way was I going to tell them that! Instead I stayed in my room and skipped dinner the first two nights. My husband would bring me back a plate.

  6. I agree much more options now then there was back in the early 90’s. I remember my first cruise on the festivale. Basically lido, main dining room and room service. The only thing that I think was better was the food in the dining room was delicious I remember having stuffed crab soooo good and my waiter back then brought me two every night although it wasn’t on the menu every night it was just because I liked it the first night. Also the service in the dining room was excellent every night he would move my chair to for me to sit and put the napkin on my lap just little things like that made it more special

On one of my first cruises, my husband was injured the first three days (dog scratched his cornea). He was miserable and was wearing a huge eye patch - very painful. When he didn't show for dinner the second night our waiter had someone deliver his meal to him in the room after late dining was over. Now that's customer service. :)

  7. I think the OP misunderstood. Someone had sent John a letter saying they should get rid of the ship on a stick.Cause "no one" likes them. John did do a poll about rather they should keep them or not. But said there is no plans to do away with the ship on a stick. And of course "no one" likes them yet 85+% of those voting said to keep the ship on a stick.

Yes, you're right. It was a misunderstanding. Thanks!

  8. Another story, sorry for the double post. Hubby's Masonic brother just got back from a CCL cruise. He withdrew $20,000 the first night expecting them to open a private table without an auto shuffler. They kept telling him they'd do it later in the night when casino was less busy and he won about $5000 messing around at craps on a really hot shooter. At midnight they said they weren't going to do a hand shuffled game for him at all on the ship and he politely told them they weren't going to get his business on the automatic shuffler. He left the $25000 in his safe the rest of the cruise and didn't go back.

Wow! 20K?? And I thought I was gambling a lot by bringing between 600 and 700 to play with!

  9. Personal Vacation Planner. They work at Carnival. It’s nice to be able to use one person to handle everything. Mine has been there since 1992 and really knows his stuff. There are the good, the bad, and the ugly just like any customer service position. Once you find the perfect one you won’t use any other way to book.

I have a friend that's been really happy with hers. I'll give her a call. I want one that's going to be there when I need them :).

  10. You don't need one at all , they are a pain.

I used to think that too! :D However, I've learned that the PVP's seem to know the ships better than anyone. They were able to put us in a larger room at the same price as a regular interior (more than once). He would also call me as soon as he saw one of the "to good to be true" cruises.... 100.00 per person plus port fees, so we'd be able to book it right away before it sold out. They do have their value!

  11. I was reading a thread and someone said jokingly "fire your PVP". Got me to thinking.... can I request a different PVP? I had a great one for years and he would only call me when there was a really good deal. He always found me the best rooms... really a great PVP. Now I have one that calls me everytime I look online (every single day!). She's so worried about selling that she doesn't listen to what I'm looking for. Also, the major turn off was the last time I called her she told me " I have 13,000 customers, so when I call you, you need to call me back right away". I was thinking to myself, if you have 13k customers, how do you have time to call me everyday? I'm just not a fan.
