  1. Thanks for sharing all you have learned. Though I have never missed the ship, I have been involved in a medical crisis from which I learned a few things. First, consider trip insurance. I never did before, thinking it has never been needed in 40 years of cruising......but it is now a small price for extra piece of mind. Second, the cruise compass always lists contact numbers for the past port. I used to ignore them, but now I rip that little piece of paper off and stick it in my wallet. In addition I have a list of numbers, friends, family, TA, credit card companies, etc. That is always carried off the ship. So glad you were reunited with your family in relatively short order. Thanks again for your vakuable insights.

  2. It is flu season for goodness sake. A sixteen day cruise raises not only the chance people picked up something prior to boarding, and incubating after boarding without ever knowing they were exposed. Further, once they showed symptoms there was probably an additional 6 to 9 days for newly exposed people to incubate. How many of you got off the ship and boarded a plane carrying the germs but not showing illness yet. Should the airline give everyone a free trip because people got sick? Every cruise, flight, hotel has people who are sick and to whom you will be exposed. If you cannot bear that risk do not travel. Otherwise, do your best at maintaining good hygiene, bring a small medical kit, as many have suggested, and hope for the best. The cruiseline owes you nothing for people being sick.

  3. Don't buy what? That it happened? Google drowning in granada, princess cruise. Ask any of the other 4 people who along with us were trying to save his life and watched an ambulance crew 1 hour and 15 minutes after he first went under finally come and declare him deceased. Ask them about being given a piece of paper and envelope while we sat in a bar because noone from princess would talk to us. Ask the ship doctor who yelled at my sister for doing cpr. Talk to the wife who watched this horror for over an hour and then was left alone on the beach with a towel over her husband and police tape around him without one single ship person present. Ask the 2nd officer about the conversation we had on the pier as he was going on break. Ask my sister who for an hour plus watched the man's eyes come back to life only to slip away again while she gave mouth to mouth kneeling in hot sand.

I repeat, I will miss a port any day rather than ever go through what went down that day. Hope it never happens to you! Believe what you want but there are 75 people who were on the excursion that day who can verify this. Please do not call someone a liar unless you were there! Kudos to rcfl for putting a baby's life over the pressure of passengers. If you were the captain what would you have done for that baby, if not turn around to get help

  4. Another factor is that if an island has medical helicopters they are often sent out to rescues on nearby islands. Just because they have onedoes not mean at a given moment it is available. Why can't people give others the benefit of the doubt, instead of immediately assuming someone is trying to keep you in the dark or is deceptive.

On my b2b on fos in November I found the captain and his crew some of the most transparent and present officers I haveever seen on a ship.....rccl or otherwise! He constantly was walking through the ship and genuinely wanted to hear what passengers had to say. Things happen. Instead of griping offer a prayer for the baby and family.....and maybe a prayer that your family is never in a similar health crisis.

Be thankful there is a cruiseline that cares enough to save lives. We were on Princess a couple years back and after my sister did cpr for over an hour on a passenger the second officer greeted us by saying "oh I did hear someone died, but I am going on break." Not one staff or officer on that ship did anything other than act bothered. I will give up a port any day of the week to know I am sailing on a cruiseline that values life

  5. For us there are several factors. If we are going to ports we have been to several times we will often get a suite because we know we are spending more time on the ship and enjoy readingand napping on the balcony. Also if we are doing b2b we enjoy suites because it gives us more room to spread out for the extended vacation.

Price is also a factor. When we can book well in advance we often book suites which will be at a price that is the same as a balcony when booked closer to the departure date.

We never regret suites, but we enjoy cruises no matter what room type!

  6. You can also find light food on embarkation day in cafe promenade. Light sandwiches and desserts.....and way less crowded than windjammer. You will love Adventure of the Seas. One of our favorite ships and itineraries going to southern caribbean ports. Love spending few extra days in San Juan also.

  7. Been in 21 grand suites and never once got gift packages. Maybe it is a royal suite thing. We would get the fruit, chocolate strawberries etc, but never gifts and certainly not every day. This last Nov we did b2b on FOS in grand suite and I am d+ and club royale and I did not even get a verbal happy birthday from the casino host or manager, nor from the suite concierge, nor from the loyalty ambassador, let alone a gift. Was rather disappointed that even tho my birthday was noted all over the place it was never acknowledged!

  8. In Mexico if you have an accident it needs to be settled on the spot and if not jail is possible. It is possible some people id rental cars and try to make a buck. I would talk with the car rental company you are considering and find out exactly what coverage they provide IN Mexico. Also ask them for written copies of the liability for accidents in Mexico. Do not rest on coverage through your credit card or for what might be standard in the states. Mexican officials do not care.

  9. We sailed during super bowl and it was a blast. Had the game on in the theatre. Staff gave out team flags and banners, and sides were separated. Chefs had prepared hot dogs, nachos and other appetizers available in theatre for the entire game. We had a blast even tho our team was not playing. My girls were 4 and 6 and they still have their flags as they have such good memories.

  10. Wow! I agree with everything posted, plus am adding a Wow for a thread where people are actually positive. It is great to hear so many describe just being happy to be cruising, without expectations of unreasonable entitlements. Thanks to whoever started this thread and for giving me a smile as I remember the hundreds of wows we have experienced cruising!

  11. Thanks for the original post. We too have brought things and have used 2 methods for distributing. First I have contacted the hotel manager and asked if there were any workers with kids who were in special need and had him or her help us find and give the "packages" to them. What joy for us to see the faces of happiness and surprise....including the manager! If it is a large hotel we have also used the concierge to help us find an orphanage or shelter nearby and we have taxied over to pass out the gifts. We have done this in many countries, as my girls were adopted from very needy countries, and they have found it to be a highlight of many a trip. Have fun! Blessings!
