Hey Nicole. I started reading your review on this thread, then couldn't wait for the installments so went to your website to finish it up. Then I went to the beginning and started reading all of your trip reports, and am currently on your second trip to Europe. Thoroughly enjoyable. You, Stephanie and Mom feel like family after spending so much time with you. :D

"I may even have used the word "gratuities" when you think I should have said "service charge". If this upsets you then bad luck. Don't bother telling me about it, I really don't care."

I've never found storage to be a problem, but have only had 2 people in a cabin. We've found ample room under the bed for suitcases and other assorted items.
Regarding the dark closet, most NCL ships have a light in the closet. If memory serves, it is in the back toward the top. The switch is a bit tricky to find, but it is there.

If you are on a tight budget, Little French Key is not for you. I found it pretty expensive for what was offered.
In Roatan, there are booths as you exit the port area, and you can pick up a cheap tour there without having to pre-book. About 5 years ago, this is what we did, and paid $20 per person for an island tour and then being taken to a place to enjoy the beach. We had to pay a $10 entrance fee pp, and drinks and food were not included. Still, it was a nice day. Our driver and escort waited at the area until we were ready to leave.

Delicious Bud Light Lime - the best beer ever!

We spent 25 days on the Sun earlier this year. The only complaint I have is the shower, as others have mentioned. A comedian said the best way to shower is to soap the walls of the shower and spin around. :) But, we had a great cruise, and loved everything else about the ship and the crew. You'll have a great time.

We went in 2011 with 4 other family members, and we all loved every minute of it.

You'll be in Hawaii. What's not to like?

What is the new platinum boarding program?

We will be on a cruise that ports in Ocho Rios next year. Having been to Jamaica on a cruise in 2014 and encountering some aggressive individuals (nothing to do with us being gay, but with us not wanting to buy their wares), we've decided to book a resort for a day that will pick us up at the port, take us to the resort, and bring us back to the port.

If you are a drinker, the UBP is THE most important and cost-effective perk (but not if you buy it at full price). Alcohol is very expensive onboard. Get rid of the excursion credit.

Great review! I read your trip on the gem earlier this year as well. I think you said you were able to hook up to the tv on the gem, is it similar for the breakaway? We have an interior room and were thinking of loading some movies onto an iPad then hooking up to TV via hdmi cable, we've done this at home, will that be possible? If not I guess we'll have to just watch the small screen:D
I'm wondering about this too. We were, surprisingly, able to hook up a Roku on the Sun and watch movies from a flash drive. Will be on Breakaway next year and wondering if we'll have the same option. Thanks!

Dawn is my least favorite of the NCL ships I've been on, primarily because it does not have an outside bar/food area in the aft of the ship. On most ships, this area is just behind the buffet area. Probably not a big deal to many, but that is one of my favorite areas of the ship.

Le Bistro is my favorite. It also has a great filet mignon (huge), and the mushroom soup is to die for.

There are lots of people that swim at Copacabana, so if you choose to do so you will probably be fine. I chose not to due to having heard of the pollution and "super bugs" (bacteria) there. However, it is very pretty to walk, have a drink, etc.
You should be able to swim at Ilha Grande and any other Brazilian ports without worrying about those problems.

On the 1st day of the 2nd leg, go to the cruise consultant. They should be able to give you Platinum. They did for us on a 21 day cruise on day 3. They changed our cards and gave us all the perks.
Steve
Thanks! I'll give it a try.

Dang it! I am about to go on a back to back, and would have been platinum at 79 points after the first leg. Oh well. At least we will get a bottle of water to share.

LFK is about twice the price, and only 2 drinks are included in that price. Maya Chan is all inclusive and more secluded, but the water was murky (at least the day I was there). Still, I would pick Maya Chan.

Fantastic photos!

It is too late to cancel, so keep your plans to go on the cruise, at least until the last possible moment. It would not be at all unusual for the case to plead or be continued. The prosecutor most likely won't ask for a continuance to accommodate you, as the prosecutor has speedy trial considerations. However, if you make them aware of your situation, perhaps they wouldn't oppose a defense request for continuance.

One difference is in the beverage packages. Celebrity's includes bottled water and specialty coffees (or, at least it did when I last cruised with them), whereas those are not included in NCL's.
