  1. Going on my second Royal Caribbean in 27 days! Yay!

    Quick question,

I'm a gold level C&A member (big money!) and RC's website says gold members get priority boarding and a dedicated lounge on board for departures. But then I keep reading on message boards that everything applies to higher members and gold level gets nothing.

Can anyone verify if the low guys on the totem pole get anything? Where/what is this dedicated lounge and where do we go for priority boarding on the day of departure?

  2. Just an FYI, I got pulled for a random bag check at Cape Canaveral and got fined $500 (or arrested) for not having my water pills and anti-depressant in the container they came in. The guy was on a total power trip and stood there, tested every single water pill, then told me one of the medicines was a controlled substance and since they couldn't verify the prescription I could either pay a $500 fine or get arrested and see a judge the next day.

So..just be careful. Anything that's considered a controlled substance you might want to bring a bottle with. Especially if you disembark on a Sunday where no one can call to verify info with your doctor :-(

I still don't think what they did was legal, but it's too late to do anything about it now. I even heard one of the officers come by and go "Woo hoo! It's payday Sunday! Everyone's paying them today!" Another officer later admitted I got pulled for the bag check because I only declared $50 in spending on my form (It was a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas...I didn't buy much of anything...I live in FL and have been there a hundred times.)

Never had that experience at any other cruise port. It scared the hell out of me because I've never been in any kind of trouble before, and to be threatened with arrest was a bit ridiculous to me. I'd always brought those two items exactly the same way on every other cruise I'd been on, but from now on I'm bringing the bottle. Yeek.

  3. Going on Allure in May and have some questions. I haven't been on a Royal Caribbean cruise in 4 years and Allure will be the biggest boat I've ever been on. I just moved to Fort Lauderdale from Tampa and live 3 miles from the port so I'm going to take up cruising again for a while! :-)

    1. Is there a charge for the FlowRider or Zipline? I didn't think there was, but I've heard that after Allure was renovated last year (I think..) they started charging for it?

    2. Labadee - Are there any beachside massages available here? If so, are they the same price as they are on the ship?

    3. Can you still go to the front of the boat? When I went on Navigator 4 years ago, you were able to walk all the way to the front of the boat at any point in the day. Wasn't sure if that's still the case on Allure.

    Thanks!

  4. I definitely figured it had to do with money. And you guys are right, the Victory only does 3 and 4 days cruises now so there's no point in having all the extras.

While we were onboard the boat was under construction. The pool by the slide was closed for the first two days of the cruise because they were recoating the inside of it. It wasn't open until the last day (sea day) of the cruise. The serenity deck was closed on the 2nd night of the cruise because they were restaining the teak. On the first day of the cruise the side outdoor starboard deck was closed because they were doing work on it and there were various portions of the pool deck closed off with caution tape throughout the cruise because they were replacing sections of the decking. It was kind of a mess at some points.

It wasn't until the third and final day of the cruise that everything was fixed and open....with the exception of some parts of the pool deck that were being replaced....

  5. Hello all!

I was just on the Carnival Victory last weekend and had a thought come to mind that some of you guys may know the answer to.

Why does Carnival (or any cruise line for that matter) choose to only upgrade certain things on certain boats? For instance, the Victory was in dry dock last year and got a sports bar, a Serenity area, an Alchemy Bar upgrade, and flat screens in the hotels. The Inspiration (which is an even older boat) was also recently in dry dock but got the Red Frog Pub, the tequila bar, etc. (Mind you it already has Serenity and whatnot...not sure about a sports bar as I haven't been on that boat in years)

Why did Carnival choose not to put those things on the Victory? Do they pick and choose what ship gets what? Why wouldn't they want them to all be on the same level in terms of amenities? It just seems like they do some boats up better than others.

I don't mean to sound like a dumb arsh at all, it was just something a friend and I were discussing one night on deck.

  6. I noticed over the weekend that my 6 day cruise on the Breeze in February went up roughtly $200. Then this morning I price checked again and it's back down to what it was when I booked it.

I know airlines are norotious for raising their prices over the weekends (which is why you always book late at night Tues-Thurs when no one is online looking at flight) and I wonder if they just did the same thing.

  7. I've lived by the water my entire life. Just so you know, the water on the gulf side is ALWAYS calmer than that on the Atlantic side. Miami is usually a rough port to go out of, the same with Fort Lauderdale. It's weird to but during the "winter" time in Florida, the seas are always a bit rougher than they are during the summer.

Hurricane season really has nothing to do with the waves here....unless there's a hurricane....but those are the best. Go to the beach during like a category 1 or 2 storm and then you'll see rough seas. (Sorry, it's the thrill of living in Florida...you can get a hurricane day off work and go to beach and watch kiteboarders and see s**t fly)

  8. Oh and in Florida, certain counties don't let you buy any alcohol before noon on Sunday. This includes beer and wine.

But Brevard county, Hillsborough county, Broward, and Miami-Dade (counties where cruise ships leave out of) don't have the "before noon on Sunday" law. You can buy all day Sunday there.

  9. Publix isn't open on Thanksgiving just an FYI.

BUT if you do have to go get wine ON Thanksgiving Day check a Walgreens or CVS. It won't be top shelf wine by any means but they're open on Thanksgiving and some sell wine. A lot of Walgreens have liquor stores attached to them and those will have a better selection of wine.

Winn Dixie may be open on Thanksgiving and if so you could always give that a shot too.

  10. I meant to tag this onto my other thread I started but it's to far back now.

Do you have to pay to use the spa facilities? Like do you have to pay $xxx for a spa pass or is everything free unless you get a treatment?

If you do have to pay to use the spa and you DO get a treatment, is the use of the facilities included in the treatment price?

I know on the older Carnival boats you never had to, but didn't know about the newer ones.

  11. These are actually kind of Breeze / Carnival overall questions.

It's been a couple of years since we've been on a Carnival cruise and we've got one planned for Feb 2014. Couple of questions.

    1) The brunch they offer on sea days - is there a charge for this or is it completmentary?

    2) The CHEERS program, can you pay that per day, or is it like Norwegian where you have to pay for every day on the entire cruise? On sea days, I can see us drinking $50 worth of drinks each, on port days, not so much.

Also, what hotels in Miami are the best bang for your buck when you go? We've always driven down the morning of from Tampa, but this time we're going down the day before. Would it be better to stay somewhere by the port or the airport? I'd like somewhere where I can leave my car while we're gone and have a shuttle or taxi take us to/from.

  12. We booked this room for our upcoming trip and it seems that the balcony juts way out from the side of the boat. Has anyone stayed in a room like this or know how far out the balcony sticks? I'm assuming if we stand way out on the edge we'll be able to see down the entire side of the boat. Unfortunately this balcony is aft facing instead of forward :-(
