Our friends who live in Europe have told us so many times that nowhere in the world does air conditioning like Florida and Texas. We tell them a/c is the only reason anyone can stand to live here. 😂

yep. Without it, no way, no how. But, thank goodness for it, because I'm a beach girl through and through and don't want to live anywhere that isn't close to the beach(and I mean the ocean, not a lake beach!).

Some people go with the flow and some people complain or they are not happy.

Certainly your opinion. I had an awesome cruise except for the serious amount of sweating I did. I didn't complain about anything else(not even the fact that we got COVID). I absolutely go with the flow and the whole week kept telling my daughter "it's alright, we're on vacation!" whenever little things didn't go right. But, I really can't stand to sweat through all of my clothes for a week. Everything else was awesome!

I just got off the Horizon this past Saturday (June 11) and I've heard the same complaint on the FB group page about the ship being hot but I did not notice this.  And, given that I am a 50+ "fluffy" woman starting to experience "the change," this is something that I definitely would have noticed since I am hot all the time.  We were in an 8th floor aft balcony room and the room tended to be on the cool side, especially at night.

I'm not saying that everyone else's observations are not valid, I just find it interesting.  But, I also didn't experience the kids "terrorizing" the ship or the adult fights, either.  Hmm, maybe I just imagined that I was on the Horizon last week 😂

I'm fluffy and over 50 too. That's why I asked a bunch of others to make sure it wasn't just me. I didn't hear from anyone that didn't think it was crazy hot in certain places.

i also noticed they are also charging some kind of state tax on bottled water and other things if you want it delivered to your cabin on the first 1st day. When i ordered the bottled water for my cruise in about 9 days, i noticed i can save some money if i change the delivery date to the 2nd day

That's because they have to charge the local tax rate while in port. You'll see the same tax on drinks you get while in port(even if on the drink package)

Just a few replies to your post. The food in the buffet on Carnival was never something to write home about. Average and little variety. What gets me is when they have a really nice turkey to carve and the offer rice or baked potato. No mashed potatoes with gravy. Hum. Guy's burgers has gone down hill for sure. As for the casino. When they are packed it is always warmer in there. As for the heat from outside. Yes, you are correct. During a hot sunny day it makes a big difference to the inside temperature. Once the sun is down. It is usually down right cold. I finally purchased a nice sweater for the evenings. Never wanted to wear one before. Just getting old I guess.

I assure you that you won't need a sweater on the Horizon. And it wasn't just when the casino was packed. It was hot no matter what. In fact, even hotter at night.

Now you are making me nervous about my sailing coming up.  Of course we are too late to switch ships.  I have multiple cruises scheduled this year and I wouldn't suffer for one less, but I am not going to lose the money.  Sailing with a 1 year old for the first time, dinner will be challenging enough, but he will be cranky if its sweltering.  Of course I live in FL, so my heat tolerance is better than most.

I'm a native Floridian, so I can deal with the heat. But, I don't expect to miserable indoors for the entire cruise. Most nights, the dining room wasn't sweltering, but it was noticeable warm. Other parts of the ship were awful.

This thread surprised me. We have over 30 seven day Caribbean cruises on Carnival and have never had any temperature problems other than my wife usually wearing a light jacket because she finds most air conditioned places chilly.

But if I did take a cruise where the room did not stay below about 71 at night I would be miserable. I like it cool when I sleep (and my poor wife has a pile of blankets on top of her).

I have lots of cruises under my belt too (Carnival and others) and have never, ever been so hot on a ship. And we always cruise summer. It was awful.

@acsflWe are booked for November, but one of us has MS and is extremely heat sensitive. As long as her cabin AC works she will be okay. Did you happen to hear any complaints from others about the cabins, or was it the common areas that were the issues? Thanks!

It seemed just to be the common areas. Our cabin was cool(though I had it cranked as low as it would go). But, I spent more time in my cabin than I would have because of the sweltering heat. They could have gotten a lot more of my $$ in the casino, but I could only take it for so long before I had to leave.

  9. I commented on another thread about this, but I thought I'd start a new topic.

I just got off of the Horizon yesterday on an 8-day ABC island cruise. First... let me say, overall, I had a great cruise.

But....... and it's a big but. This ship was HOT! I'm talking sweat your extra calories off hot. Other than our cabin which was cool (thank God or this fat old lady would have jumped ship), everywhere you went was miserable. I sat at Alchemy most nights and the heat was quite the topic of conversation amongst everyone. This is an open area bar, so there isn't a reason it should be so sweltering there. The Blackjack tables in the casino were like a sauna. Eating in the MDR was not fun in your nice clothes when you feel the sweat on your back.

I think part of the issue is the LED spotlight lights they use everywhere. Those suckers put off some heat. But, other than that, I really don't know the reason.

I spoke to Guest Services and honestly, they just kept throwing around different "reasons" and excuses and didn't really seem overly concerned.

The ship is lovely and the crew were great, but I will have to be offered one hell of a deal before I would sail her again until I know this has been addressed.

Curious if others have had this experience recently on the Horizon....

We cruise in July and it will be hot in the Caribbean, I hope there's no A/C issues, that would really suck.  I was on Horizon for a 2 day cruise when she first arrived to Miami, it was an ice bucket.  Not sure if what people are complaining about now has to do with COVID.  Meaning, they are pumping in more outside air and as a result, common areas will easily heat up.  Was it any better a night?

No, at night it is awful. That is when I was in the Alchemy and the casino and you sweat buckets. Everyone was complaining. I would have to be offered a serious deal to consider sailing this ship again until I know this issue has been resolved. I spent the week very uncomfortable and that just shouldn't be the case. I shouldn't be in my nice clothes trying to enjoy a meal in the MDR and have my face beet red and my back dripping with sweat.

I am sailing on the Horizon in 5 weeks, and our facebook group is posting things about AC issues in the main areas of the ship.  Are you seeing anything like this?

I just got off the Horizon this morning. I am quite certain I gained no weight on this ship despite eating like a pig because I'm certain I  sweat it all off.

I have never, ever been so hot on a ship. Every area was miserable. The casino was the worst and was positively miserable(specifically the tables along the back wall). Alchemy was also ridiculously hot(and considering it's out in the open, this doesn't really make sense). I found myself spending more time in my room that I would normally because, thank you Jesus, the cabin was cool.

I spoke to guest services and got nothing but multiple possible reasons and certainly no genuine concern.

I talked to a lot of people on the ship and there was definitely a consensus that everyone was overwhelmed by the heat.

Can anyone confirm that only one booster is required to be able to do the test 3 days before? Both me(55) and my daughter(16) each have the 2 regular vaccines and one booster.

I went ahead and rescheduled the test for 2 days. I'm not taking any chances. We leave Saturday and so now we'll test Thursday. We tested 3 days ahead in March, but the CDD hadn't updated their recommendations yet.

  13. We leave Saturday on the Horizon. I had tests for me(55) and my daughter(16) scheduled for Wed. I just went and changed them to Thursday because I'm nervous now that the CDC is recommending boosters for us both. All I need is to get to the terminal and for them to turn us away. It's just as easy to test the next day(and since it's rapid, we still have another day as a cushion if anything were to happen or delay the results).

  14. Both the golf carts and Avis at Divi Flamingo have no availability when we arrive. Can anyone recommend another reliable rental car company that will rent for only a day? Are any others close to the port or are they all at the airport?
