  1. We are reviewing restaurants ahead of our cruise and want to decide soon to make reservations for 6 of us travelling together. My husband wants to be able to see the menus of the specialty restaurants before making a decision. Does anyone know if there is a place to see the menus? I know that there is just the general discussion of the type of food served in that restaurant to the NCL website, but looking for more specifics. Thanks.

  2. We booked the Getaway sailing for Jan.29th on Sunday with an online agency and got the pick 2 option. This was final payment day as it was less than 90 days out,

On Tuesday, I noticed that all 5 options were now available. I figured it was work a call to the TA. They were able to add in the extra 2 options (we didn't have a 3rd/4th person so that one was NA). There was no begging needed, and no upcharge. Everything stayed the same. We already and the beverage and dining package so the tips were already added in.

  3. We got off the Navigator of the Seas on Friday (2/3) with Global Entry. We saw a separate line with an overhead sign for global entry. We asked if we could use it and told we could when showing our card. We walked to the front of the line to a closed door though. The customs office was being evacuated due to alarms going off. We didn't know what to do and asked a private security worker and he said to go into the closed door. We had to cut in front of some angry looking passengers who I think had been waiting a long time. I showed the passengers my card and said I had expedited clearance.

When we got into the customs hall, there really was no one there but one of the customs officials asked to see our global entry cards and passports and sent us on our way.

It was a very chaotic scene though with the evacuation going on.

  4. Alamo and National offer free shuttles from the MIA airport to the POM.

Budget, Avis and Dollar have offices near the port with free shuttles.

If you are a member of Costco, use their travel site to find the locations. They feature Alamo, Budget and Avis. Put in Miami as your rental location and it will bring up all locations. For Alamo select the airport location, and for Budget and Avis, select the locations that indicate POM. I have found that Alamo seems to offer the best rates in my case.

  5. Not sure where you live in the Chicago area, but there are other options than Southwest. Frontier and Spirit fly out of ORD and usually have low fares. There is also Allegiant that flies out of Rockford. I know they only go a few places in Florida, but worth checking out. There is also free parking the Rockford airport which can be a cost savings.

I also suggest using Kayak or fly.com to find the best fares.

  6. We just got back from the Gate 1 Monarch Empress cruise yesterday. We did the classical concert in Vienna option. I was disappointed. The concert was in a small hall and lasted a total of one hour. On the last night of the cruise in Budapest, the cruise line brought on some local entertainers in the lounge and I thought that was more enjoyable than the classical concert.

We did not do the palace tour but talked to others that did. Everyone enjoyed it, but as most things on the cruise was rushed and did not have much time to really take in the entire site.

  7. We are booked for the Monarch Empress on 8/21. The transfers through Gate 1 from Munich Airport to Regensburg are are $95 per person.

I have checked and we can use a shuttle through Airport Liner that would only be around $45 per person which is a substantial savings.

Has anyone used transportation to/from Regensburg other than what is provided by Gate 1? Obviously I don't want to have issues with getting to the ship, but Gate 1 even seems to admit their fare is high.

Thanks for any information or suggestions.

  8. We are leaving on the Celebrity Summit on Jan. 17th and will be arriving in San Juan on the 16th. We have a hotel in Coronado (Best Western). Will be have a problem with a taxi from the airport and then from the hotel to the Pam Am Pier? Will we be delayed a lot due to traffic?

Thanks for an insight into the festival impact.

  9. We were just in St. Thomas last week. We decided last minute to do Coral World. We picked up a taxi right outside the pier for $10 each person each way. It is about a 25 minute drive each way (more if you are driving in heavy traffic). You can probably do Coral World in about an hour. There really isn't too much to spend time on there. The Coki Beach is next door so you can walk the boardwalk to there.

  10. We just got back from the Summit on 2/1. We had a 2:15PM flight home so took the Bacardi tour from the ship. It was OK. The tour was about 45-50 minutes long. My husband thought we would tour the factory but you take a tram to one building and see some presentations and a short video. The tour is free if you do it on your own. I wouldn't spend too much money on it though.
