  1. Even if you don't hear back from Steve, which would not be his normal MO, I would recommend you still go anyway. The "reservation" is not actually required, but is a way to help secure your loungers. I was there a year ago, and when you get there, they lead you to "their area" of the beach that the waitstaff will work.

Someone asked about T-shirts and shopping. There is a large souvenir store down the street that has lots of T-shirts. I don't remember prices, but they were inexpensive. And they have all the usual magnets, etc.

Thanks, I should have responded earlier, but Steve did confirm my reservation, later that same evening,I sent the request in. I am getting excited!

  2. Going to Bananarama is very appealing to us, but my main concern is their cancellation policy especially if the ship ends up not going to Roatan for some reason or another. Here is their cancellation policy:

Cancellation Policy: Notice of cancellation given prior to 30 days before your arrival will result in a full refund excluding a $50 service fee. Reservations cancelled within 30 days, but prior to 7 days before your arrival, will be credited to you for your use within 1 year expiration limit, excluding a $50 service fee. This credit can be transferred to another party. If you cancel your reservation within 7 days of your arrival we cannot refund or credit your payment. If your cruise ship changes the itinerary and does not port with us, we will refund your payment minus service charges.

We were previously on a cruise that had to skip Roatan and by the above statement it sounds like that they will charge you $50 due to no fault of your own. Am I reading this right or am I missing something?

  3. FYI, and in checking the booking conditions we found this;

Cuba Cruise does not discriminate against any nationality and we would not deny boarding to anybody simply because of his or her citizenship. We operate according to the laws of Canada

    Interesting!

  4. Both Fred Olsen and P and O have itineraries which include Cuba, but don't know if US citizens are eligible for the cruises.

US citizens are not! Cuba will not deny entry, but you could be in trouble with the US. It would be interesting to know if a US citizen tried to book one of these cruises and they listed a US address if the cruise line would deny you to continue the booking.

  5. Thanks for the great reply YoungDubFan! I appreciate you explaining the 2 for 1 happy hour since Cory and I drink different things! But still that is not a bad offer.

Since we are still about 9 months out until airfare will open up for out trip; we still have time to think about what we are wanting to do pre and post cruise. We still need to decide where we want to spend Christmas Day; We are kind of leaning toward just staying in Amsterdam.

  6. YoungDubFan, thanks so much for your great review; I read your entire review yesterday as I was watching basketball. My partner and I have booked this cruise for December 2014 on the Avalon Vista. I have a couple questions if you don't mind. If Avalon is using the same hotel in 2014 as they did with you, I really doubt that we would want to stay at that hotel. We would rather stay directly in town a few days before the cruise! Would we the morning of the cruise check out of the hotel we are staying in and proceed to Avalon's host hotel?

I was looking at the all-inclusive alcohol package; the cost is $222 per person. Since wine is available with dinner, cocktail of the day at a discount price, and happy hour; in your opinion, would this be an unnecessary expense? We are NOT alcoholics by any means!

And a very IMPORTANT question: Is Avalon a Coke or Pepsi line. If it is Pepsi, I would have to carry my own Coke on board! Thank you!

  7. hi Kansas City guys...the European river cruise...Amsterdam to Budapest...you'll love it. We did it some years ago, has been our fav cruise. Only about 170 passengers, travels mostly at night and new town to visit each day. Great food and wine, all inclusive usually...fab shore excursions all incl also. go for it!! Regards Rod and Barry (Oz)

Hi Rod and Barry; you must have seen the roll call thread I started, yesterday! Actually, our cruise will be from Zurich to Amsterdam. We are looking forward to it and we understand it will be totally different from the Ocean Cruises we have taken. Which ship were you guys on? Thanks for the other info you provided as I still have a lot to learn about river cruising!

  8. Hi Shepp, I'm guessing you meant amusing as in odd? I am het and I do find most people who live "alternative lifestyles" amusing. Or maybe I just find almost everyone who doesn't so .:)

If you find people who live an alternate lifestyle amusing, than what are you doing on this board. I find nothing amusing about my partner and I living the gay lifestyle. In fact, I will tell you what is amusing; all of the right winged bigots who try to hide behind their marriages which are a lie.

  9. And around we go. My view - previously expressed, to some disagreement - is that there are ample opportunities onboard for straight and LGBT people to all mingle together onboard - at least 23 hours every day.

It's not that I'm heterophobic - hell, some of my best friends are straight ;). And it's not that I think we should keep the secret handshake under wraps, or am anxious that outsiders not discover the details of the Gay Agenda. It's just that...well, let's put it this way. If I came across a meeting for, say, lesbians or gay transmen or African-American gay men, and they were having fun, I would not ask - or even want - to join them; I'd respect their space. I know, I know...I'm old fashioned.

Of course, this is all complicated by the lines usually scheduling queer meets in high-traffic bar areas...less for our convenience, I'm betting, than in pursuit of our bar tabs. Het by-passers, spotting a group of über-stylishly dressed, fabulously witty same-sex couples, might not even know it was a specifically LGBT-denominated gathering. And their asking "May we join you?" puts the queer attendees in a Miss Manners spot. What can you say, "No, it's our treehouse and you can't play?"

FODs are not in fact gay/straight alliance meetings, which generally have political overtones. (And, believe me, I would be quite cheerful if I met a straight passenger who asked, "So if you guys can't get legally married, is there something I could do to help change that?" Hasn't happened yet.) Bottom line: If LGBT meetings become LGBTH meetings, then why have them at all?

I guess that could be the same as a non-drinker who has never drank going to a "Friends of Bill Meeting". One of my pet peeves in the city I live in are all of the straight girls who prefer to go to the gay clubs. Furthermore, I do not support straight clubs that have one gay night a week.

  10. In a way I agree with Mike. The balconies are sold as "private" therfor one would assume a level of privacy. Threatining to report someone for being au natural on a "private" balcony would be like reporting someone for being au natural in their living room; "look officer, if you go up to their window and look in just like this..."

I can't remember where it happened but somebody did call the police because they could see someone making coffee in the nude through the window. Before someone points it out to me, yes, the person who called the police had their child with them. It sound like to me that the person who called the police in the first place is the real pervert and I would have had them arrested for being a peeping tom.
