  1. Not normally, but we found in the Med last summer that pretty much everything was open as normal on embarkation day (Golden Lion and afternoon tea). This is because embarkation day for some people is simply the middle of others two or three week voyages when QV is in the Mediterranean during the summer. :)

  2. We have a very specific question about an upcoming voyage on the QV.

Is the afternoon tea in the Grills Lounge any different to that served in the Queens Room? I recall hearing this somewhere but am not entirely sure and can't find any information online.

    Thanks in advance :)

  3. On our QV Baltic cruise last August, 'Dining under the Stars' was advertised in the daily programme on several occasions. I believe there was a cover charge of around 10/15 dollars and the food was described as 'bistro-style', though we didn't try it.

  4. I was in PG, and it only took a request to the Maitre D' or head waiter no later than lunch time. This also applies to menu items that must be ordered in advance such as Duck a L'orange, Chateaubriand, or the curry of the day. Some items are for two people, and this is where sitting at a large table works to my advantage. There is likely a table mate who is willing to be the second person for that entree.

Thanks that's really helpful. Getting very excited for our first time in PG in August!

  5. The Grills restaurants have their own 14-chef galley so a lot more individual attention can be given to each meal. There is also a chef who specifically attends to off-menu requests. One has the same table for all three meals and has the same waiter team so a camaraderie develops among table mates and the staff quickly learns their preferences. Some prefer this intimacy while others would be more attracted to the grand space of Britannia. It's also single seating - for dinner show up anytime between 6:30-9:30 and get full service.

As for location, when I've been on board the curtains are lowered mid way at night so that any passers by see only the table tops and would have to stoop to peer inside. The location has never bothered me as I gauge the temperature outside by seeing the activity on deck. But others have made your same observation.

The staterooms are far larger in terms of space and storage. Starting with a P2 the bathroom has a tub/shower instead of a shower stall. If you look at the exterior of QM2, you will see that deck 11 (Britannia) partitions are narrower compared to deck 10 (PG) and even more so to compared to deck 9 (QG).

Were you in PG or QG. Either way, how easy did you find it to make off-menu requests?

    Thanks in advance.

  6. We are very much looking forward to two weeks on the QV on the 29th August.

Having only done trips from Southampton previously, my question is the following: as embarkation day in Athens will be mid-way through others' cruise, is there more going on than a standard embarkation day? I.e. Will afternoon tea be served?

We are also interested to know whether our Day 7 in Athens will have the same amount going on as a normal day mid-cruise or will be much quieter as others are joining the ship.

    Thanks very much.

  7. Thanks KeithM for a very helpful post. It sounds like PG will be perfect for our needs and that if we do want to do a bit of off-menu ordering, we should be able to do so if enough notice is given.

Really looking forward to our first taste of the Grills, but slightly concerned there may be no going back afterwards!

  8. Thank you for the helpful answers so far. The a la carte menu still looks fairly broad and we will cross our fingers for an accommodating maitre D! Very much looking forward to it.

  9. Hello everyone.

A quick question. We are trying Princess Grill for the first time in August, after two very enjoyable trips in Britannia last year and in 2013.

My question is, what is the main difference between the a la carte offerings in PG and QG? The FAQ only shows the menu for the latter. Also, has anyone on here been successful in ordering a QG a la carte option in PG? From my reading of this forum, it seems that experience regarding flexibility in menu choices varies in PG.

Thanks in advance for your help.
