  1. I was on the first sailing out of the 2017 drydock; here is a link to pictures I took. As you'll see, some of the ship was still a work-in-progress.

Great photos!! We sailed on the Elation a few years ago and will be sailing on her again this Christmas. Seems she’s had an extreme makeover. The ship looks great!

  2. We head out to the deli late, around 9:45 thinking the buffet closes at 9:30, so it'll be a sandwich, or a pizza, and the buffet was still open!!!

(BTW the sandwiches on the Vista are good, you just gotta order it your way, so they'll special make it for you!)

I had a bbq rib, a piece of bbq chicken, and some pasta, all good, so I'm a happy camper!

After eating, we head back to our cabin for the night!

A quick comment about service on the Vista, we've found it to be very good, example,,,

My wife forgot her charging plug for her laptop, she still had her tablet, but her games she plays every day are loaded on her laptop.

So she mentioned in passing to our cabin attendant this afternoon she was going to see if they sold them in the fun shops!

We didn't hold out much hope.

Tonight there's a knock on the door, our guy borrowed one from a crew member friend of his!

So as I'm writing this, she's happily playing her game on her fully charged laptop!-))

Sounds like you have an excellent cabin steward.

  3. It's a bit cloudy today, but warm out, and the seas are very calm considering the tropical storm

For reference, my balcony is two decks above the Havana area...

Ewwww.... you are right about Havana balcony room. I wouldn’t want people above to be able to look right down on me. No privacy! I think I’d also do the Havana interior.

  4. Carol, I'm sorry to say that I don't know how to do that, my skills on this technology of computers/tablets is rather limited to my trying to spell most of my words correctly.

I will say the food in our 2 meals so far in the MDR have been really good, and we'll continue to update the next 2 weeks about the quality and some of the selections, hope that helps.

No worries!! I completely understand. I am very much enjoying your review and I like your writing style. Just let me know if they offer the Baked Alaska in the MDR during your cruise and IF you have it, your impression. I’m so excited to hear it is back.

  5. Hello - looking to book my next cruise for Jan or Feb next year. Looking at the Sunshine or Breeze from Port Canaveral. Both do the same itinerary (7-nights to Grand Turk, San Juan, St Thomas and Amber Cove). Breeze is Saturday to Saturday and Sunshine is Sunday to Sunday. We were just on the Magic and really enjoyed it. My son (he'll be 9) loved the water slides. We have watched videos of both ships and Sunshine is winning for him because it has 3 big water slides instead of 2. Sunshine would cost less than $100 more, so not a big deal. I'm not sure what to do as I have read such mixed reviews of Sunshine, and generally good reviews of Breeze, plus it's like the Magic which we are now quite familiar with. We're looking at an inside (or porthole maybe) to save some money this time. Any advice? How do I decide?

The Breeze, for sure! My favorite Carnival ship by far.

  6. We will be on the vista July 14 sailing and I booked a steakhouse for the first night. I got my letter of confirming my reservation and this was at the bottom— P. S. We are having a promotion in the Steakhouse on Embarkation and the first Cruise Elegant nights of the cruise! Guests booking a reservation on either night will receive a complimentary bottle of house wine or 50% off any bottle from our wine list!

  7. We did this about seven or eight years ago on the Victory. Same itineraries but we went to Antigua instead of Saint Maarten. One of our very best cruises ever. Dominica is absolutely gorgeous. So lush and green. Also, as others have mentioned , if you don’t want to get off the boat you can stay on the boat for a day and at one of these ports you could just take a taxi to the beach. That doesn’t cost much. And you’ll actually be able to get a lounge chair.

  8. Mikey was not our CD. I think we may have had a sub due to Christmas week.

I have to say that I liked The Legend and The Freedom much better overall.

Crew was the best - Cabin Stewart learned all 17 of our names as well as head server. Never had anyone better than these two.

Boat is a little worse for wear. Oldest CCL ship still in use. Liked the atrium a lot. Pool area seemed smaller. Loved Guys and Cantina.

Holiday so it was run over with kids - as you’d expect it to be.

Odd table of 4 unsupervised children probably 7-10 years old right behind us. Very loud. No parents in sight at dinner. They were seated somewhere else. Very happy when they didn’t show the last night.

Winter weather - Tues. cool. Wed. Nice enough to sun. Thurs. on Cozumel was very nice. Sun is very low as it was/is so close to winter solstice. Friday was overcast and rained in the A.M. Too cool and windy to be outside.

    More to come.

Hmmmm..... we were on the cruise the week before 12-21 to 12-26 and Mickey was our cruise director. He was not out an about the last morning and several announcements were made saying he was sick.
