  1. 56th street

20 blocks walk in NYC winter hauling bags---NOT A GOOD IDEA !

NCL & CCL leave from the same piers...

FREEPORT was a was.much like PC ---no excursions? nothing to do

Movies? usually one in the aft/then a couple in then

yes in the eve.s----No spa ....

Thank you! Not going to walk. NCL is 48th so we walk. Yes we have done it in the Winter--we're new Yorkers, we're tough! Im not walking to 56th however! I'll take a cab!

  2. Thanks for the great review. We get on 3/9-- our 29th anniversary!!

What street is the pier on?

If it is warm we may walk up from the Port Authority Bus Terminal.

We usually walk to NCL but I think Carnival may be up the street a few more blocks.

What did you do in Freeport?

What kind of movies did they show outside?

Did you use the fancy Spa? Did you buy a Spa pass?

I hope I didn't ask too much :) Thank you in advance!!! :)

  3. Last time we were in Nassau we enjoyed free wifi with our day pass to the Hilton. Leaving on Sunday. Does anyone know if either the Wyndham or the Sheraton include wifi near the pool? Thank you.

  4. Gambee -- what a great review! I know you did not rent chairs or an umbrella, but maybe you can help clear something up.

The sign talks about "returning" the items you rent --- that sounds like you have to carry the chairs and the umbrella to a spot on the beach, and then carry them back. Is that correct? I am used to places that set up the chairs/umbrella where you want them and then take them away when you are done..

    Thanks,

    Brad

Yes, You are just given your items and you have to carry and set them up yourself. However the guy who hands you the umbrella and the chairs expects a tip! LOL We were given a broken chair and we didn't realize it until we got to our spot which was pretty far down the beach--past the lifeguard station for those who know. My husband had to walk al the way back to the concession to exchange the chair. I watched the people next to us really struggle with their umbrella. They also take a deposit of $5 per item which you get back when you return the rental items.

At Tobacco Bay in St. George they set everything up for you.

  5. "But the overall feeling of her speech was simple. NCL really appreciates CC and she really wanted it to make it a point to tell NCL if anything is going not as expected so they can fix it then and make the experience better. She was very specific about us allowing them to fix it, before coming here and blasting NCL away with bad reviews.

Then Julie started walking around the tables. So let me be a little delicate with this, I had no intentions in talking to her much more than a simple hello. But having her demonstrate such concern for how our cruise was going, I decided to approach her and talk to her about Blue and my issues with customer service.

Anyway, she was very approachable, I explained her my situation and how frustrated I was about it. She looked concerned the entire time and very open, she is very easy to talk to and I like that. The problem is that I did not like her response one bit, basically she referred me to another person and maybe they could fix the problem."

I understand your frustration... I would have been aggravated and not gone any further!

  6. Wow! Wonderful review. We were on the Breakaway on the 5/12 sailing and I am seeing things that I missed!! Thank you!

I feel really bad about your Ocean Blue/Customer Service issue. I really think you had a case to be made for getting the $35 charge because you could not make a reservation ahead of time. Although if it is any consolation, we ate there the week before ($35 charge) and we were not very impressed. Glad you didn't pay the $50!!!! I had two shrimp for an appetizer and three scallops for dinner! We totally hit the buffet after dinner! My husband liked his beef tartar appetizer but he got 3 oz of sea bass for dinner! No sides!

I wish we knew this was happening to you while you were still on the ship. Did you go to the Meet and Mingle??? At ours, the cruise director and the hotel manager must have repeated 100x that they did not want complaints at the end (and I think implying also they did not want to see them online on Cruise Critic). They keept saying that if something was wrong they wanted to know right away so they would have a chance to fix it. They gave us each cards with all of the department head's cell phone numbers.

I think had you called the hotel manager or the restaurant head you would have been able to negotiate Ocean Blue for $35. The power of the pen!!!

You might have even gotten the light fixed too!!! LOL

So sorry you had such an unpleasant experience. I think if you got to the right person it would have been rectified.

I wonder if they stopped giving out the numbers because so many people from our cruise bothered them!!! LOL!!!

  7. I forgot to add. Free wifi in the lobby and the the restaurant. At times it even reached out to the pool and the upper part of the beach. We were able to FaceTime with our daughter in North Carolina and give her a tour.

I had emailed ahead but was told that there was no need for a reservation for two. Only for six or more.

  8. It is far from the dockyard direct by bus or cab. Probably about an hour by bus. It is like the last beach to come to on the south shore. It is much closer to Hamilton that is why we took the ferry to Hamilton and the #7 bus back towards the Dockyard about a ten minute ride. Some one told us it would be a $65 cab ride direct. We could have taken the same #7 bus back to Dockyard at the end of the day but we decided to take the bus the other way to Hamilton so we could walk around for a little while and then take the 6pm ferry back to the ship. The Latitudes cocktail party was that night at 7 and we made it with time to spare. The ferry only takes 20 minutes.

  9. So glad to hear it was a great day there! I look forward to seeing your pictures. How was lunch?

    DELISH!

We had the lentil soup and the Coco Reef Salad for starters which we split. And then we split the Cuban sandwich and the Coco Reef Fish Sandwich which both came with a large Chinese food container of the really crispy double-fried fries. We each had a nice cold glass of Becks Beer instead of the wine. Served very nicely on a real table cloth!!!! LOL Very civilized!

I might have pictures of the lunch on my iPad. I didn't have any on my phone.

  10. We went to Coco Reef last Thursday from the Breakaway and had "THE BEST DAY EVER!" So easy.

Really lovely place right next door to the Elbow Beach hotel. We had bought three day transportation passes so we took the first ferry to Hamilton in the morning (20 minutes) and the # 7 bus from the depot in Hamilton to the Stop for "Bermuda College" (10 minutes)--We heard it was like a $60 cab ride from the dockyard!

We just walked up the street past the college --maybe a 10 minute or less walk (shorter than the walk up or down the hill to Horseshoe Beach) and walked right into the beautiful lobby. Paid $49 each on our credit card and were given two towels each and told we could use the facilities all day. Lounge chairs by the pool and beach, umbrellas, restroom with showers, and an excellent lunch with wine or beer at a beautiful outdoor patio (you could eat in the restaurant too if you want).

I took a walk over to the public beach at Elbow and there were guys from the hotel with loungers there charging $50 for two chairs and an umbrella. No towels, no facilities and NO LUNCH!!! You would have to buy it at Mickey's. I thought our deal was very worthwhile. I'll post some pics!

  11. I felt the halls were rather narrow. My cabin steward said it is an issue with letting passengers pass by while they are in the hall with their carts. At times I had to duck into some doorways in order to let others pass. It is a real issues with wheel chair access as you have to move into a doorway to let them pass.

They key card and electric...yikes! I scared the heck out of myself one night while leaving the cabin by dropping the key card after removing it from the slot, left in the pitch dark and forgot the door opened outward. I was in panic mode for a few seconds until I remembered to open the door out towards the hallway. It made me think if there were an emergency would I remember to push the door versus pull the door. Old habits are very hard to break!

oh my!!! so funny! My husband did exactly the same thing! He tried to feel around for the card on the floor and I grabbed around on the night table to find the small flash light I always take. I found the flash light first! Never even thought about opening the door! LOL

  12. The webcam cannot be controlled by viewers. It is controlled remotely by the team from PTZtv. http://www.ptztv.com/

Sometimes they have the webcam set to pan the port area. Other times they will take control to zoom in on things of interest and especially when the ships are arriving and departing.

The webcam in Bermuda that located at the National Museum of Bermuda located at the dockyard.

Nice addition to the other webcams this team manage. This one has been active/live about 2-3 weeks so far.

Thank you for the info. I looked all over the page for controls. At least I'm not nuts! Lol. Love this webcam!

  13. Here is a screen shot of what is visible on the cam right now. Sometimes it is just flags and sometimes it is a close up of the passengers walking off the ship. Are there controls that I am missing? When my daughter went to college there was a "hi mom" cam outside the bookstore that you could control from your home computer. When she stood near the right bench I could zoom right in on her! Loved it! Is this one random or s someone zooming in for us?366699046_ImageUploadedByCruiseCriticForums1367788890.865712.jpg.72f436ae5ebf4580a2f6c152da144c5c.jpg

  14. We are booked in 6234. It is an extended balcony and was the same price as a regular balcony. We were in this one in Jan. '12 also. LOVED IT! The balcony was looooong, had 2 lounge chairs plus little tables and regular chairs. We booked this cruise a year out to have that same cabin.

Yes, it's set in a bit, but it didn't bother us. We looked (directly) down on a life boat; but sitting you looked out and saw ocean. You are a deck higher so your view looking out should be even better. The balcony to the left of us did set out, but the one on our right was even with us.

Personally, I'd take the extended...but that's because we love the long balcony with lounges. We'd order room service and spend many quality hours out there reading, napping, etc. It is a steal, imo. :)

Thank you! I'll call and change it!

  15. Did you post a thread about this? If so, I answered you there, but I'll answer here as well. Whenever we cruise on a Spirit-class ship--and our upcoming Baltic cruise will be our sixth time on one--we book an extended balcony. The only time the regular balconies disrupt the view is if you're one or two cabins from the bump out. Personally, I'd much rather have an extended than a regular--on a regular you have to crawl over anyone else on the balcony if you want to get past them (well, our family is tall, so maybe it's just us, but I love the extra room!).

It's weird to me that your PVP would tell you that. If that's really the case then why would people pay more for them than they pay for regular balconies? LOL

Thank you. The extended that he booked first was dead center of the extended balconies. I thought it was weird too. We are going on the Baltic cruise that departs 8/20. I will call back and change it.

  16. Just booked the Legend for August with the friends and family promotion. For our cruise, the balcony and the extended balconies on deck seven are the same price. Our carnival agent told us to take a regular midship balcony vs the extended because he said the extended are pushed back into the ship and the sight lines are not as good from the extended. Is it true? Is the view from the regular balcony better? I would think an extended balcony would be better. They are usually more money. Do they have lounge chairs?

  17. I have recently put together a video of our memories onboard the Carnival Legend.

The Carnival Legend is decorated in a "legend" theme. Throughout the Legends 12 decks are creative custom-made pieces and artwork depicting historical, legendary and mythical characters and stories . . . and since it is decorated in an ornately neo-classical design, Greek-style urns are everywhere!

Really enjoyed your video! Thank you for making it and posting!
