  1. I was looking at the port site last night and it seems that Princess (?) has been sailing out of that port so they should have a clue.

I'm bringing the Jewel into Houston from California via the Panama Canal :)

We appreciate you bringing the Jewel to Houston! :) We are really looking forward to cruising on her in November.

Thanks to all who replied - I noticed not too long after I posted that they had opened those weeks back up and all they were doing was adjusting her itinerary to alternate between Roatan and the Banana Coast. Now the next big question - has anyone been to the Banana Coast? What's it like?

  2. We're on the Jewel this Nov 22 and have been watching the bookings and pricing and noticed that from 10/11/14 - 4/11/15, 16 weeks are no longer available for booking/sold out. I noticed this on another website that tracks bookings and went to the NCL website to see if these weeks were gone, and they are. I assume they're not sold out as all weeks were available for booking just a couple weeks ago. What's weird is that starting with the 1/17/15 sailing, every other week is showing as fully booked.

Does anyone know what's up with the Jewel? Why these weeks are being shown as fully booked? It's just weird that all of these weeks are now showing booked and really weird that it's every other week after 1/17/15.

  3. The most interesting ships normally do the most popular itinerary (and therefore most financially viable) - Eastern Caribbean. Miami press has basically confirmed that Norwegian Escape (first of the two Breakaway Plus class ships) will be home-porting in Miami, so it will also do a Caribbean itinerary.

Both the Getaway AND the Escape will be home-porting out of Miami? Wow, that's interesting, and a lot of cabins to fill each week. If that's true, I wonder what happens to the Pearl and Sun - maybe one, or both of them, stays and does the southern itineraries? It'll definitely be interesting to see how NCL configures their ports and itineraries!

  4. Below is a web link to an article discussing passenger reviews of four cruise lines: NCL, RCCL, Carnival, and Disney. I thought you would find it an interesting read. I'm a proud member of the NCL fan club and the article didn't change my opinion of NCL, I just found it interesting how the four cruise lines ranked next to each other.

  5. Great topic and one my DW and I just talked about a couple days ago. We book our cruises 2 years in advance and when the week of the cruise finally arrives.....it ends up going by waaaaaaayy too fast.

So, I always focus on Time Control during my cruise week, and have discovered that, for me, I am able to slow time down by being on my balcony, looking at the vast ocean, sipping on a cool drink, just imaging what is past the horizon.

Unfortunately, the week ends too quickly, and I realize I have again failed at Time Control; but I have the one thing I need to handle the long wait till my next cruise...memories.

  6. You'll pay the corkage fee the day of embarkation. Bring the wine with you as you go through security, they'll see the wine (or just tell them you have it), and they'll direct you over to a table with an NCL staffer. They'll ask your room number and will fill out a document detailing the name of each wine, the charge, and will have you sign it. You'll then see the corkage cost on your itemized on your cruise acct as a charge through one of the restaurants.

My DW and I bring wine on board every cruise and pay the corkage - it's no big deal.

    Enjoy!

  7. Do you mean RSVP for the M&G or just join the roll call. If you just go by the list that have asked to join the roll call the normal result is 50% of the total at best show up. I always ask everyone a month or less before the cruise to confirm their attendance and how many. Normally 90% of those that confirm shortly before the cruise show up.

I must be going by the total members of the roll call. I guess I was thinking it seemed like most of the roll call participants would RSVP for the M&G but less than half would show up. I probably need to stop drinking so early on my cruises so I can count better. :)

  8. The issue we've had with our M&G's is the poor attendance rate. We literally have had 50, 60+ RSVP's to our M&G's but will then only have, maybe, 20 people max show up. On our cruise this past Nov, Squidward did a GREAT job planning the event, we had an active roll call, and had 60+ RSVPs. When it was time for the M&G I think we had roughly 20 people show.

My question is this - why do so many people RSVP but then not show up??

  9. We sailed on her earlier this month and loved it. It was our 4th cruise in 5 years on the Pearl, and the 2nd time we sailed this itinerary - if that tells you any thing. She's consistently ranked as one of the top ships in NCL's fleet.

  10. Hi all,

We are going on our first NCL cruise in March. We are currently looking at the Shore Excursions on line and they are asking for Credit Card Payment. Can someone please tell me whether they debit my CC straight away or does that not happen till we are on board? I thought that the amount for the shore excursion would go onto my cruise card? Just wanting to know this information as we have a reasonable OBC and want to utilize it. If they debit the card we might just have to take our chances and wait till we are on board.

    Thanks in advance.

If you book it now you'll pay for it now. On our recent cruise on the Pearl we pre-booked one excursion and paid for it same day. Then, while on the cruise, decided the night before to book an excursion for the next day and used our OBC.

  11. We got off the Pearl this morning and are chilling at FLL waiting for our flight. We'll be posting our review later this week but would be happy to answer any questions about the ship/cruise while we wait for our flight.

Some tidbits of info: this was our 4th cruise on the Pearl, first time in a Haven Suite (stayed in the Lily Suite - 14506), stopped at all ports of call, smooth seas, great cruise.

  12. I will be on the Breakaway December 1st with my boyfriend so just 2 of us in the cabin.

    :)

Awesome. We're on the Pearl the same week and wanted to check and see if you were on the Pearl and would've invited you to our Roll Call. If you haven't already do so, make sure to check out the Roll Call for your cruise.

We travel in suites and the biggest advice I can give you regarding tipping is to tip whatever amount you feel is warranted based upon the level of service you receive from the concierge, butler, AND room steward. Even though their in the tip pool we always give our room steward a tip for taking good care of our room.

    Have a great cruise!

  13. Got a great upsell deal for a Haven Courtyard Balcony and I was wondering what the average/good gratuity was for the Butler & Concierge. I am probably what is considered an "overtipper" so will most likely go above the average answer if I am getting great service.

    and...

OMG I am so excited! Cruise is 18 days away!

    What ship are you on?
