  1. We will be porting in Rotterdam in August and do not enjoy group tours.   We would like to walk about, have a nice non-touristy meal and visit a museum or two.   We are also fond of gardens, architecture and street art.  2 vegetarians n our party.  Any recommendations, tips or warnings?   I'm reading Rotterdam is very walkable, would you agree?

  3. We will be porting in Stavanger, Nordfjordeid and Skjolden.    We have a rental car in the first 2 ports and plan to go hike.   No rental cars in Skjolden, so we are pedestrians.   I see a few trails that are accessible from the town.   Anyone have experience/recommendations?   (Group excursions are not our thing.)

Our ports changed and now we have Skjolden and no car.   😞

  4. We will be visiting in August and are staying at the Stracta Hotel in a 1-bedroom apartment.  It's not a luxury accommodation, but it looks comfortable, spacious and has a private hot tub.

The hotel Vik might be an option.

Hotels book up fast, so I wouldn't wait.  They all have great cancellation policies.

  5. There are 4 ships in port, so Megan's is out and Sapphire, although beautiful has always been too rough for us in the past (and now it's also a cruise ship excursion stop).   So, I'm looking for a place that isn't too far from Havensight, has decent swimming and amenities (chairs & restrooms a must, food/drinks would be nice).

So - I'm thinking about Emerald. It is right next to the airport, which is not ideal, but it seems to fit our other requirements.   (We will be in Tortola the day before and will go to Cane Bay Beach.)

Has anyone been there recently and can provide intel?    Anyone feel strongly pro or con about it?

Thanks - we sail this Saturday!

  6. Sailing to Bermuda for the first time at the end of the month.   We like to do things on our own.   Generally, that means hiking, eating or going to the beach.   Any suggestions?   I would like to avoid long bus/van drives as I am sensitive to that motion.   Are there things to walk to from the dock?   Looks like taking the ferry to Hamilton will open up more opportunities.

Any advice/suggestions would be very welcomed.

  7. We are looking at a 5-night Bermuda cruise out of NYC next month.   Have sailed from NYC, but never been to Bermuda and have a few questions:

    1) Typically, how rough is the water getting from NYC to the Island?

    2) What is there to do in Bermuda in mid-October? Weather looks to be in the mid- to upper-70s.

    3) We like to go to the beach (probably too cool) and hiking, nature trails, dining.   Not into gambling and shopping really doesn't have much appeal (maybe if there are discount designer purses!).

    4) We prefer to do things on our own and not be herded on tours. Is renting a car easy, reasonable, recommended?   What can you walk to from port?

    Thank you!

  8. We port in Juneau from 7 am till 7 pm on August 4th.  We will have a rental car.  Plan to go first to Mendenhall Glacier and do the falls loop trail and check out the visitors center.   Would do another trail there if it's not super long or steep.  We are experienced hikers but I'm still a little behind my game after having covid last month.

Where else would you recommend to hike/sightsee/eat/shop?   We try to avoid mobs of tourists (thus the rental car).   Safety is obviously a factor.

We do you go? I’ll be there on the 19, and our excursion for the day is a dear old friend picking us up and taking us around. So I may come back with info.

Any tips from your trip?   We will be in Juneau on August 4th!

  10. We are sailing with you on Sunday.  I've always enjoyed your posts and you were very helpful to me.  I hope you have a great cruise.  This is our first on Celebrity, so we pretty much have no idea what we are doing, but I assume we will figure it out!  If you see a middle aged lady with red hair and a teen with green hair - that will be us (Kathi and Carina)!

Just got back, and spent the week without any of my luggage (thanks, Air Canada).

Oh no!   We are flying Air Canada for the first time a week from today (PHL-YYZ-YVR).   How did they lose your luggage?  Any words of advice on how to possible mitigate that problem?  We have air tags in all our luggage, so that would at least help to locate it.

Personally, I think you're way overthinking something that will take 20 seconds during check-in.

I have a lot of anxiety and the port of Vancouver is reported to be a giant poop show when there are multiple ships in port.   I'm just trying to do everything I can to make this less stressful for me on my vacation.   If I know it's done, then I can stop thinking about it/stressing over it.
