  1. We're on board the Riveria right now and just received the Disembarkation information - Oceania shuttle to airport is $59 pp so we'll be taking a taxi to the airport.

Be advised that the line for taxis will be extremely long. To further complicate matters, Oceania's pier side staff are incredibly disorganized, so large numbers of people will be directed into the middle of a line instead of the end. There were a lot of irate passengers waiting for taxis at the end of our December cruise. (I know because I was one of them)

  2. Otherwise its lazy cruisers.

Not just lazy; disgusting! Come on people, poor personal hygiene is the main cause of Noro outbreaks. If you're cruising and not washing your hands frequently and using the hand sanitizer liberally, then you are showing your disrespect for your fellow passengers. Actually, if you use the bathroom and then leave without washing your hands, you are a pig. This is not rocket science; put the toilet lid down before you flush, wash your hands frequently, use the sanitizer. If we are on a cruise together and I see you exit a bathroom without washing your hands, I will make sure everyone within earshot KNOWS that you are a pig!

    Just 'sayin

  3. It was hard to read the big red post so just a quick question for clarification

Do you need to book through an Amex or affiliate TA to get the perk?

I believe that the way it's worded, that you do:

"Valid for new bookings of voyages of at least five nights made with a participating supplier through Platinum Travel Service, Centurion Travel Service, any American Express Travel office or the Agency Services Desk."

"You only need to have it and charge everything on ANY Amex card."

This is also incorrect; You must be a Platinum or Centurion member to qualify for the perk as stated:

"Available for U.S. Platinum Charge Card Members and U.S. Centurion® Members only, and excludes Platinum Credit Card Members such as Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Card Members who are not also U.S Platinum Charge Card Members or U.S. Centurion® Members."

  4. They are spelled the same and it was an excellent pun:

As an old English teacher, I appreciated the lighthearted comment and did not feel it needed correction.

I agree; I thought it was funny. Corny but funny.

  5. I sincerely regret that you weren't able to experience that cruise. You don't know what you missed and I certainly have as much right as anyone to post factual information which I hardly consider "whining." It was an absolutely dreadful mess of a cruise.

I was on that cruise and I disagree; we had a lovely cruise. Except for the weather, of course.

  6. [quote name=G&G;48570593

cabin stewards performed poorly. I do not know if it was due to the Noro virus' date=' bring over worked or not properly trained. I reported these issues to Guest Services on Day 3, seem to get better, then worse towards the end of the cruise.[/quote]

We were also on the 12/12 sailing; our first Oceania cruise. Perhaps because we were in a Vista Suite we did not really notice the "poor" service. The cabin stewards were overworked by the constant cleaning of hallways elevators etc. due to the code red. That being said, we were not overly impressed with Oceania. We're cruising on Riviera again in March, so I'll reserve judgment until the end of that cruise.

  7. Good information

We used to always call American Express to give them our travel dates and plans. About 4 years ago they told us that we don't need to call them each time. They keep track of our dates for airline flying and cruising as we purchase and pay for those items.

Ditto with Amex. I've had both Visa and M/C deny charges in foreign ports, but never American Express. As they advertise, "don't leave home without it".

  8. Easy game to learn to play, basically raise a Queen, Six, Four or better.

If you have bad luck you can lose a lot, I have :(

Don't chase those big payouts, go and have a drink and come back another day.

First time I played I got 3 of a kind on my second hand. You should have seen the other 'expert' players faces :D

Not sure that there is such a thing as an "expert" three card player. I love the game, it's pretty much all I play on cruises and I believe it's more about luck and patience.

  9. We booked our first suite in 09 to celebrate our anniversary, honeymoon, (which we never had) and birthday. Problem is we never went back to the balcony. It spoiled us we enjoy the extra pampering and amenities on the ships. One thing that is nice is free laundry on Princess. A note to Debbdo we will be on the same cruise.

    Jim:):):)

We're in the same boat (pun intended) We've pretty much found it impossible to go back to mini-suites, so now we only cruise twice a year instead of 3 times. Our favorite perk is breakfast at Sabatini's; love those mimosas! A great new perk is the opportunity to eat dinner the first evening at one of the specialty restaurants; just call dining services when you get to you cabin, excuse me, suite and make a reservation. Be prepared for some vibration in your suite, especially when the ship is leaving a port. You're going to have a great time!:)

  10. Not sure where the $10.50 per day comes from.

Free gratuities is great deal for regular cabin at $11.50 per person per day, even better for mini and full suites at $12 per person per day.

Will they put an OBC thru for it or really not charge it? Seems like it would be easier for on-ship accounting staff for it to be OBC.

They will pre-pay it and credit it to your account. Pretty cool! The only cruise I've previously seen this offer on was a World cruise.

  11. HI, I am not new to sailing, but this is going to be my first princess cruise.

Other then formal night, how is the dress code in the dinning room, can hubby wear nice Jeans?

How about crown grille, can you dress casual?

Does the 25 dollar cover charge for crown grille include the whole meal, or is there another charge? (never ate in a specialty restaurant before)

Thanks for any information on these questions.

  12. Princess calls them mini suites rather than junior suites; but in either case I would jump on either of the Dolphin deck vista suites D736 or D737 as their balconies are full covered and huge by any standard.

Also the vistas on Dolphin are not subject to noise from above and below like some of the others.

We have sailed in both on more than one occasion.

    Mike:)

All of this is correct, BUT, be aware that D736 and D737 are subject to a lot (and I mean A LOT) of vibration (we've stayed in both these suites on the Grand)

  13. Interesting. Is it Princess that is lots less formal, or is it the passengers who for one reason or another, choose to disregard the requested dress code? Here's what's said on the link provided above by Pam:

    Formal

When formal nights are held, please observe the dress code in the Traditional Dining and Anytime Dining venues for the enjoyment of all our guests.

Evening gowns and cocktail dresses for women

Tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suits with a tie for men

Looks pretty clear to me. Hard to see how someone can interpret this to mean "as formal as you want it to be."

Just sayin'! Do I feel a lot more comfortable in my Tommy Bahama shirt than my tux? You bet. But I'm still going to wear my tux or a suit if for no other reason than to respect my fellow passengers who make the effort to look their best for a special evening. Just my two cents for what it's worth. DK

Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

    Well said DK, thanks!

  14. Absolutely I am serious.

Those people KNOW that they are stealing, pure and simple and their actions could affect thousands of passenger's benefits.

    Mike:)

What I don't understand, is the mindset of people who don't see anything wrong with this. Would these same people take the cash out a wallet they found? Or candy from a baby's mouth? Probably not, but this is stealing just the same, so how do they justify their actions?

  15. You can carry the coffee card over to additional cruises if you dont use all the "speciality" coffee drinks upon this cruise (we had half a card left over from last years) you just cant carry over drip coffee...as for the sanctuary you can use the pool and seats around the pool for free...aft deck pool is usually for adults as well...we never found a reason to need the sanctuary ....thats us however...Enjoy

Alas, this is no longer true. Today's coffee cards are cruise specific and therefore not as much of a bargain as they used to be!:(

  16. Sorry to hear that the staff on your cruise was not so great. We cruise Princess a lot, in fact we're Elite level and we've only encountered staff like you describe on a couple of cruises. Sad to say, one of those was on the Crown. I've heard that sometimes crew moral deteriorates near the end of a contract, perhaps that was the case on your cruise. In any event, it sounds like you had a great time despite a few minor problems. Thanks for posting your excellent review.
