    Update to Coral Princess...

  2. On a recent cruise (October) ending in San Pedro it took 1 1/2 hours to get off the ship and through immigration (non-Princess but same problem). They had four immigration agents (two for US and two for non US). The hold up was not the cruise line but the lack of immigration personal.

  3. On my recent Star Princess cruise a special departure arrangement was available...

    Requirements:

Apply in advance (I believe it was 3 days before end of cruise)

Had to be US passport holder

Flight must be departing Vancouver by 4:00 pm.

Flight must be directly from Vancouver to US (No transit flights via another Canadian airport.)

Using a Princess transfer we were bussed directly from Ship to Airport, skipping Canadian customs (though we did fill out a Canadian customs form in advance-form was included with package delivered to room).

We were one of the groups off.... Meeting times were 7:45-8:15 for groups in the Direct to USA program. We left within 15 minutes of the meeting time. Drive to airport was about 1/2 hour. We had a minor delay awaiting US customs (which you do at Vancouver airport) due to a fire alarm that went off,. After about a 1/2 hour delay we cleared customs/immigration within 15 minutes and went to our boarding area.

  4. I have done several Princess cruises ending in FLL. If you are using EZ check and therefore have your boarding passes and only carry on (EZ check delivers your luggage to the airline)_then it will probably. You are at the 'mercy' of customs, immigration, the airline and TSA for it to work. One of my worst experiences there..cab to airport, then it took 1 1/4 hours to get boarding pass (days before boarding passes on phone) and check luggage. Then we were sent outside of terminal to get in line for TSA . That line took 1 1/4 hours to clear security.

  5. It might cover you while in Ensenada but two warnings:

At sea, cellular at sea (the ship's satellite coverage) will probably not be covered.

I made the mistake on a Hawaii cruise..using ATT in Hawaii, but forgot to put my phone in airplane mode. I turned it on in Ensenada and saw the roaming, so I immediately turned it off. On my next billing was $15.00 for 'cellular at sea' and another $15 for international roaming.

Be sure you are covered. Good luck!

  6. You can walk into town in all three ports. How close you will be depends on how many ships are in port.

Princess does not get to choose what pier, they are assigned by the local authorities.

If it is a longer way to town, a low cost shuttle is available.

On a rare occasion (i.e. port overload) a ship could have to tender. It is usually the 'smaller' ships that end up doing that.

  7. On a cruise ship--San Francisco to Hawaii, late January 2014. 25 foot + seas all the way over....

Heaviest seas..while in the US NAVY..the ancient destroyer I was on was rolling 45 degrees to each side, and the forward up and down was hitting the glass on the bridge where I was standing watch (while covering the forward gun turret. (We were passing trough a typhoon)

  8. Hi. I searched but was unable to find posts answering this question. We are taking an independent fishing tour in Ketchikan and need to take bag lunches from the ship. Will room service bring them to us or should we go to the international cafe and pack our own? will they give us bags/something else to carry them in? Thanks!

    Jen

In general, passengers are not allowed to take food off of the ships.

  9. As of now I have a Pacific Coastal cruise booked in September on the NCL Jewel to sort of get my feet wet with solo cruising. It's not my ideal cruise as I've already been to Vancouver/Victoria a couple of times but I just can't do Florida as I'm not a beach person. I thought about doing Hawaii for a week (culture/history) but would love to do a studio on the NCL POA. But the cost is around $2800!! Why?

Primary reason is that the POA is the only (that I know of) Ocean going passenger vessel of American registry. Accordingly, I believe it must meet US wage laws, including social security.
