There are numerous nice places to dine near the Captain Cook. You have many options.
But if you haven't used Uber or Lyft you could just ask the hotel to call a taxi. Easy peasy.
We will probably just eat close to the Captain Cook. A friend had told us about a place that they really liked but I just learned they are only open for breakfast and lunch. Probably won't want to commute that early in the day. Any suggestions of places close to the Captain Cook?

What part of town are you staying in? If you are downtown, plenty of places to eat within walking distance.
We are staying at the Captain Cook.

Anchorage certainly has taxi companies (why would Anchorage not have taxis?). For a number of years Uber/Lyft was not legal in Alaska due to our wage and hour laws. Under former governor Bill Walker legislation was introduced and ride share services are now legal. And of course, Anchorage has their municipal bus service.
Thanks - which would be the easiest to use? Should I just ask at the hotel desk?

So my wife and I are taking my sons on an Alaska cruise with Princess. My sons are 20 and 17 years old. We got two staterooms next to each other and have a few questions.
My agent booked us two staterooms next to each other. My wife and one son in one room and me and my other in the next stateroom, joined by a balcony. We plan on letting the boys sleep together and my wife and I sleep together. My question is, when we get on board, how will that work? Will one of my sons have to go through our stateroom to get to the other? We have balcony staterooms so conceivably that could work. But would love for there be a better option. Would we just switch medallions when we get on board? Will that get us in trouble?
The Princess Cruise app is extremely glitchy. Rarely have I been able to complete any steps without it crashing on my iphone. Is there a better alternative? I've read that Princess Cruise phone people are not very helpful either. I've read this is a chronic problem that has been around for years, but we've never cruised with Princess before, so I'm kinda wondering if we made a mistake.
Any help would be appreciated!!

I do everything in the "web version" of the app that is in cruise personalizer on the Princess website and I haven't had any of the glitches encountered with the Princess app. As others have said, you can get all of your medallions programmed to access both cabins once you get on board. I hope this helps!

We will be in Anchorage for a couple of days after our cruise. If we want to go to dinner someplace that is too far to walk what would you recommend? We have never used a taxi, Uber or Lyft so not sure if any of these are doable. Thanks!

Another positive - you have a better chance to see the northern lights!

Obviously a downside to having the medallions posted instead of waiting a few seconds longer to get them at embarkation 😂
Nope - they don't have to physically have the medallion to reprogram the cabin assignment.

Claalaska.com will tell you what dock your ship will be at. Be aware in Skagway if you are at RRF you will be tendered to shore and if you are at RRA you will ride a shuttle. This is because of the land slide there a couple of years ago. This is still in place fir the 2024 season but it may be corrected in future seasons. I hope this helps!

There will be three ships and over 7,000 people the day we board in Vancouver. I am expecting chaos. If we don't have it I will be pleasantly surprised!

I havent been on Princess in 17 years and obviously everything is different. I'm cruising 9/14-9/21 on Enchanted. I don't have app yet, and don't plan to book specialty restaurants, but can I request anytime dining on the website now? TIA
The main dining room procedures are changing for all cruises starting the week you cruise. You won't be able to make reservations until 6/17. With the new process there will be one dining room that will have the old early/late dining times, one that will take reservations, and one that will be walk in. I hope this helps!

Well guess what - my perseverance paid off!! Apparently the “ tech” support that the agent reached out to corrected the problem. The app for both sailings is working! The web version that jean-lynd suggested is great too!
HOWEVER - in reading the daily ship schedule I don’t see any LIVE MUSIC, PARTY BANDS, ETC… The only thing it shows is the DJ at 11:00pm. Is this possible?? All I ever heard is that there is lots of live music on the Princess ships, namely the Enchanted. I may create another post asking for input from those who have recently sailed on her. If this is correct, we will be canceling our Aug 3rd sailing. I have a short window to do so.
many thanks in advance.
It will be awhile before they load all of the entertainment. In fact, some things may not show up until you are on board. I hope this helps!

I have had much better luck using the "web version" of the app that is in cruise personalizer on the Princess website. I have been able to do everything in there when nothing worked in the app. i don't plan to log into the app again until I get on the ship. I have attached a screen shot that shows how to get to the "web version" if you want to give it a try. I hope this helps!

Princess and HAL have cruised Alaska the longest so they tend to have the best itineraries and longest port stays.

I am traveling in August with my daughter and 2 granddaughters on Sun Princess. One is 18 the other 17 and will still be 17 when traveling. In the past we have bought a soft drinks/ mocktails package for the girls with wifi added on. For this booking we have booked princess plus for 3 of us no problem. I was told the 17 yr old would also have to have the princess plus package even though she cannot obviously have the alcoholic drinks. Surely this isn't right? I would like to get the experience of the people on CC before I sit in a queue for over an hour on the phone to Princess.
Thanks for reading.
Are you in 1 or 2 cabins? The first 2 in each cabin must have the same fare package. Plus is still a good deal if you are paying crew appreciation ($16-$18) and WIFI ($25). If you add a classic soda package ($18) you are at $59 and the Plus fare is $60. I hope this helps!

The "web version" is one of the best kept secrets around!!
Truth!!! I wish I had a dollar for every time I have posted about it! I could take another cruise! LOL

This section of your Travel Summary would be exactly the same if you had booked directly with Princess. Your Travel Agent is not "booking everything under the package seperately" so they are not "benefitting". This is just how Princess reflects the "value" of the items included in the package. I hope this helps!

Just like last year. King Crab is not even on the menus of the local restaurants at the moment.
Only Snow Crab and Dungeness Crab.
Anyway, a lot of people say that Dungeness Crab tastes better than King Crab.
If you can find King Crab anywhere in the U.S. right now, it most likely comes from Norway. -

Whenever I try to order my medallion for an Alaska cruise in July, it says "Can't load content". I've completed all the rest of the items on the checklist.
What am I missng?
I had the same problem when I tried to order our medallions on the app on my phone. We were able to order them with no problem using the "web version" of the app that is in cruise personalizer on the Princess website. I have attached a screen shot that shows how to get to the "web version" in cruise personalizer if you want to give it a try. I hope this helps!

There is no coffee only package. I've never had mini fridge items so I don't have that answer.

Hello,
I will be on the Voyage of the Glaciers 14-day cruise, on the Royal Princess, embarking June 1/24. It is my understanding that we will miss most of the Canadian leg of scenery as it will go by during the night. June 2 is a sea day. What area of the inside passage will we pass through during that day? This is our first Alaskan cruise and I’m just trying to work out, roughly, where we are on that sea day from sunrise to sunset on a map.
Thanks!
This map shows the sea day. Royal will be on the red line that is coming in from the left of Vancouver Island and then curves right to join the black line that the smaller ships take. You can see Ketchikan at the top of the map. The islands of Haida Gwaii that will be on the port side are referred to as "the Galapagos of the North in recognition of the unique assemblages of plants and animals found here". I hope this helps!

Thank you! I have heard of Snow City Cafe. They were talking about Gwennies which is not walking distance from the Captain Cook.
