  1. Breezer

Yes it was. Totally surprised as NCL web has a mind of it's own. That being said my email confirmation has the correct times, MYNCL summary has all times listed as 6 p.m.

Thought that was funny. Yes I will take the email confirmation with me just in case.

That happened with my confirmations, too. I called NCL and they said MyNCL had a glitch. I didn't try to reserve Tapanyaki but whatever I reserved I made it for more people than me, no problem.

  2. We personally were disappointed in the Spa on the Getaway. The acoustics are such that people talk very loudly, especially when they are in the T pool or hot tub and it isn't the quiet relaxing place that we have enjoyed on other ships. Sounds bounce off f the ceiling and walls and to us, created almost an echo-like effect. Of course, YMMV.....we have already bought our spa passes for our Alaska cruise on the Pearl and lan to use it daily. The Pearl spa is our favorite....

The same thing has happened to me on more than one Breakaway cruise. I feel fortunate to be in the spa when it's quiet. On my cruise last month, a woman went to the front desk and got one of the workers to come in to quiet the talkers.

  3. How is it the same thing? If it's a Studio Lounge, it's for people using the studio cabins. If it's a Solo Passenger Lounge, it's for passengers traveling solo, regardless of what cabin they are using. Is it a place for solo passengers to meet (therefore it should be open to all passengers traveling solo), or is it a communal extension to the studio cabins (in which case it should be open to only studio cabin passengers, whether or not they are traveling solo)?

Booking a cabin for single occupancy (regardless of the cabin type) does not make one a solo passenger.

It is a lounge for the studio passengers in which solos passengers are allowed in one hour a day, unless it is now being worked as what happened on the Getaway. It is intended for people who paid for a studio and is a perk of that booking. 24/7 access is for studio passengers only. From the beginning, it was never intended as a solo lounge.

  4. Apart from that there is no definition of solo anyway. What about the 20 year old with his parents. The group of people who met before the cruise on Facebook. The two co-workers cruising together just because of the supplement.

Why should someone get the access programmed and some not.

NCL needs to clarify the lounge rules and then let all their guest relations staff, and us, know how the perk works. And enforce whatever the rules are.

  5. I agree. The only reason I book a studio when the price is less than an inside are the snacks and free coffee machine near by. That is what I pay for when I book a studio and has nothing to do with cruising solo or not. When I stay in a stateroom outside the studio complex there is no reason why I should enjoy those perks I did not pay for.

Exactly. There are caveats with booking a studio. It's not based on what cruisers think or feel should be the way it should work. O'Sheehan's is open 24/7 for snacks. The lounge, and meeting other solos there, is a daily, hourly, entry for non-studio solos.

  6. As there are very small amount of studio, there is no way to fit all the solos, so I feel those that are true solos, even if not in a studio cabin should get a card with an access to the studio lounge. But yes, those who are not sailing solo, should not be allowed, especially families with kids. That's is definitely not a place for them. I totally agree with you , doors should not be left open. That is why they should give access card to ONLY solo travelers.

I mean why do a solo lounge and not let solo cruisers in? Its silly. Its a wonderful thing that they did a solo lounge, it can bring people together and not only during evening get together. So why not let all solos enjoy it?

Solos can enjoy meeting other solos at the appointed hour. The lounge was set up for the studios, not for all access all the time for all solos. It's a perk that is paid for with booking a studio, like all that comes with booking the Haven.

  7. I actually paid for a studio and was then upgraded to a balcony and since it was left open and was entitled to go the solo gathering I dont see how. I was breaking any rules.

By accepting the upgrade you no longer were in a studio and no longer entitled to 24 hour admittance in the lounge. You were entitled to go to the solo gathering each evening. The door should not be "left open"; this is why people who should not be there ARE there.

  8. I had no problem lasttime on the breakaway anytime during the day-

seems absurb and I would be fuming if this happened to me and I am sorry this happened to you.

And as a solo in a studio who paid for the use of the lounge, I would be fuming if people who did not felt they should be able to enter it whenever they wanted to. Follow the rules and attend the daily meeting or pay for a studio.

  9. lol. Chances are very high that night 12 will call on NYC and night 13 Newport Rhode Island or be cruising in circles 12 miles out of NYC.

    Also....just checked the website....still showing 12 nights.

I'll take the additional 2 days on the ship if that's what happens no matter where it goes. But if it goes to 14 days and that doesn't work for people, they'll have the option of canceling before. It takes a lot of time to debark and those staying on board won't be happy sitting at the pier. The quicker NCL makes decisions on this, the quicker we'll all be able to decide how to proceed. The revenue department has their calculators busy, LOL...;)

  10. The watered down, comp'd Platinum tour on the BA was only for a brief Laundry tour, Gallery tour and the Provision Operations. So, the paid one get access to 3 additional area.

Thanks for the info. Big difference between the two tours......:(

  11. Was $79 p/p on BA in late March (niece & friends were on GA last week, also $79 p/p) covering 5 areas.

Comp'd Platinum one is much shorter, about 1 hour skipping 2 stations & only doing 3 - and always conflicted with the scheduled Meet & Greet for CC, just a heads-up. And, you must register once onboard quickly within a few hours embarkation day only for the BA/GA - details in your Welcome package along with other Latitudes offer.

Which 3 are included in the Platinum tour?

  12. Thanks. I think for me, at least, coming/boarding from a cold climate, it might only be on the first and last day of the cruise that I would be tempted to wear jeans in the MDR.

I live in Manhattan, too, and those are exactly the days I wore jeans to dinner. And long sleeves. And a jacket. They don't stint on air con. The last night I'd already packed my luggage and left it outside my cabin so they could take it off the ship so the jeans were a "must". Have a great time on the Breakaway!

  13. The menus may be different, at least that was true on the Getaway last year. Only difference I. Gone dress is that there are no shorts in the Manhattan Room. You may make reservations at any of them, but they're typically not necessary.

I got off the BA on Friday; in any restaurant, say between 6 and 8PM, if you didn't have a reservation, chances are you'd be handed a beeper to be called when a table was available. Taste and Savor always had the same menu; Manhattan was the same, maybe with a few extras, but not necessarily. I never saw shorts at dinner; I did see capris. It was the same in January 2014 as well.

  14. I realize these are complimentary but are there any differences to them? All I see is that Manhattan has tablecloths, music and dancing. Is the menu different? Do any require/allow reservations? Do any have (different) dress requirements?

Also, is at least one open for lunch and dinner daily even on port days?

All have tablecloths; none are open on port days for lunch. Same menu. Yes to reservations; same dress requirements.
