I’ll be sailing in the same room soon, and was wondering if you thought the smoke was an issue?

I haven't sailed on her yet. Can you please give me an update on your cruise and cabin review

    Thank you, Carol

Hi, I met a couple who booked that new suite (Otium) and the smoke is an issue. So much so, they haven't been able to use their balcony for much of their cruise and they have been on board for the last 22+ days.

They also said sound from Fhe Panorama can be annoying at night.

Thanks so much for letting me know. I am sorry that is happened to them. I know I would be upset to spend so much $$ on a suite and can't utilize it.

Our Cabin is on the side so hoping it is not so bad as that.. Well see if my DH wants to change rooms..

We booked room 6080 on Silver Nova and then saw it is above Connoisseur's Corner. It says you can smoke outside the Panorama Lounge in seating area.

Does anyone have experience if that smoke will rise to the port balconies on Deck 6??

I am kicking this up again. As people have sailed on Nova now and can answer my question.

I am afraid of not being able to enjoy the balcony on port days due to smoke!

Anyone have sailed on the Nova and had a cabin in this area that has any info/feedback yet??

Since no other Silversea ship has cabins close to the Connoisseurs hard to say.  However, it would seem to me barring some strange vortex effect the smoke from the outside smoking areas would be blown to the stern not up while underway.  Not sure about when docked or at anchor.   If really a concern maybe moving as suggested would be a good choice.

Thank you! That is what my DH had thought also. That underway it would blow to stern. I am going to hope that in port we will actually be away seeing the sights and not on the balcony as much anyways. As the rooms left in Classic Veranda are not many left and on starboard not the port (land side), DH just wants to stay where we are..

  7. We will be first time cruisers on Silver Seas. We will be on the Nova in 2025.

Will we have smoke coming up on the balcony aft of Deck 6 from the Connoisseur's Corner and Panoramic Lounge on deck 5? It says smoking is allowed outside of Panoramic Lounge in outdoor seating area. We booked room 6080.

  8. I did the 21 mile bike cruise on the Neckar River. Loved the ride. Mostly flat with a couple of hills. I had to walk over part of one. Couldn't quite make it. But thats okay.  Took a lunch stop in the cute town of Ladenburg.

Rained and hailed during our lunch stop and again on return for 5 minutes and we had to hide under trees. Was quite a day, but loved the ride!!

Sorry Carol it looks like your going to have to do the cruise at least twice. To do all offered excursions - and I expect they’ll offer a different one - and a there and back ie in reverse. Whichever you choose will be wonderful, I suspect all of us have had that  ‘what’s over the next hill’ feeling at some time. Enjoy your cruise.

Thank you! Yes, every time we go on vacation and there is something we couldn't do or have time for we joke that we have left it for the next time we get back there!

I hope you have a great time also!!

Weather forecast: rain coming from France tomorrow, reaching the Upper Rhine valley on Saturday.

    notamermaid

Do you know how much rain will be coming from long week of rain forecasted from 6th to the 12th and beyond depending on locale?

I would think that should bring up the gauge and keep it stable for the river cruiseships. Our AMA Siena cruise leaves on the 15th.

I will be doing this cruise in the opposite direction, Basel to Amsterdam, and I have the same question.  Hopefully someone will answer it soon!  🙂

We leave in 12 days. It doesn't look like there is going to be any answers. I am trying to look online , at pictures, etc. I think we are going to do the 21 mile ride along the Neckar River. Supposed to be pretty. Also of course part of the decision will be based on weather that day.

On the radar I see rain over Lake Constance, now having also moved North and West, an almost perfect direction to give water to the Rhine and its tributaries.

I see that it is raining now in Basel. And that it will continue through Saturday. Will this rain benefit the river and flow down where we need it through Rhine?

AMA will not do a land tour.  If you cannot complete your journey on the same ship you will be transferred to another ship to complete your journey.

That is good to hear. As we have booked the pre Amsterdam and post Lucerne/Zurich extension we are not cancelling. We also have booked time in Lauterbrunnen after. We will go with the flow and trust AMA to do the best they can with what they are given!

That is right about September and October. And is the reason for people being worried. If we have such low levels in August what will it be like in September and October? The weather could change but statistically it is unlikely to. Relying on Lake Constance and rainfall with all the tributaries also low on water, the Rhine is "always" on the low side in Autumn compared to Summer. I have my doubts about the Grand European itinerary in Autumn. But I will gather my thoughts on that for posting them another day.

Thank you for all your knowledge, insights, and reporting to us on the Rhine river levels.

We are departing on the AMA Siena from Amsterdam on Sept. 15 to Basel. It is so disheartening to hear and see all these changes to the rivers in Europe. I will just have to pray that our trip won't be turned into a total land tour..

  15. I will be on a September AMA Rhine river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel.

I would like to go on one or two of the  biking tours. Does anyone have any suggestions of which would be the most scenic?

    Looking at:

Cologne, Rudesheim, Neckar River, or Strasbourg.

It is so frustrating trying to make choices when you want to make a clone of yourself and do 2 things in each locale🤣🤣.

    Thanks for any input,

    Carol

If the Princess tour is full the park service also sells the Tundra Wilderness tour cheaper than Princess. We were unable to

upgrade our natural history tour for the tundra wilderness tour so had our TA cancel the Princess tour and then we booked through the park service.

I have read about the shuttle as an option.  I am happy to hear that Princess is upgrading or giving credits if you want to do something else.

We are doing the Alaska land portion in July.  We traded the History tour for the Denali Backcountry Adventure tour.  Like other excursions, we had to pay the full amount of the tour when we booked it.  Princess did give us a credit for the cost of the Natural History tour in our total booking cost.  I've done the Tundra Wilderness Tour previously when it was an 8 hour tour.  I thought I would be disappointed in the shortened trip that it is this year.  The Backcountry Adventure tour does not go inside the park.  But it is a 60+ mile trip on National Geographic's #2 "Drives of a Lifetime".  I'm hoping it was worth the switch.

I will be interested in how you like the tour after your vacation. My trip is not until next year. Would love any insight you could provide.

    Thank you,

    Carol

In the past it has always been that one could upgrade to the TWT. Just be aware that part of the mountain slid off and took the road with it so the TWT can't go in as far as it has in the past. It's going to take a while to rebuild the road.

Thank You, Yes, I did read of the closure. I hope we can still see some wildlife going to the 43 mile marker.

You were very lucky to see those sights!! My husband also likes to sit up front if available as he can get car sick on windy and bumpy roads.
