We once booked on board and as soon as we got home, we had to cancel and re-book. The Next cruise staff were not well informed and we had to pretty much tell them about the specials and perks we were entitled too. Plus, they couldn't really see the cabins available. so once we got home we called and changed the cabin.

I would place my bet on your itinerary staying intact.
But, that is only my guess! Good luck!

Your experience sounds like mine on the Breakaway in the Caribbean. I don't like the layout of the ship and the flow of people makes it difficult.
So, after close to 10 NCL cruises, we are staying away from the "Away" ships! We loved the Epic and hope to try the Escape soon.
How was the disembarking?

Check WOW airlines. They fly through Iceland out of major US airports. Pretty reasonable. AND use search sites like KAYAK.

We have been thinking about doing this cruse as we sailed the Dawn several years ago out of NYC and loved her!
Your review just may have been the convincing we needed! Thanks!

Having cruised NCL a few times, I really think that their Main Dining Rooms are so good I no longer ever go to the specialty places. So for me the drink package sounds best.
We agree 100%!!! Most times we leave specialty dining disappointed. I think NCL does a great job marketing the specialty dining, but we were never that impressed.
Go for the drinks and have some nice wine in the main dining rooms!

If you only have a few hours. Use Uber to take you to Southbeach and walk along the boardwalk. Then Uber up to Lincoln where all the restaurants are located.
-
Most of the sailing is done at night. And the little that was done during the day was very smooth. Don't worry much, just pack your Bonine just in case!
-
Band aids! I got a nasty blister and had to pay way too much for a couple band aids on board! Now I always pack a few!

Great review! thanks!

On the POA, I would save the money and go with the balcony. We spent hardly any time in our cabin. So for me it is easy, save the suite for a cruise with more time at sea!

Plan on 2 days inside. We bought Spa passes just for these days!
But a couple days in NYC pre-cruise is always fun!
-
We prefer the Manhattan room for dinner. The music and floor shows are what we enjoy! They are always entertaining!
-
Our first cruise there was a guy that was having a lot of fun parading his girl around all the dining rooms, bars and public areas while she wore sequined super short dresses. I mean so short that her naughty bits were peaking out with every step! After a few days, they became the talk of the ship. Eventually NCL told them to knock it off, and they were never seen again....But I still look for them on every cruise!!!!

a. we never met our cabin steward.. never saw him/her once... Didn't know how to find them. Needed help several times, and couldn't find him/her. Had to search our floor to find someone to help us.

Your post reminded me of the issue we had with our broken safe. I kept calling the room steward on the phone, but he didn't answer and had no voice mail! It took until day three to get someone to fix it!
Overall, I have to agree with everything you posted. I will only go on an "Away" class again if I get a super deal.

We prefer NCL for the entertainment.
If you are concerned about transportation in NYC, if you can take the train, you can walk to the pier or a taxi. Driving to the port is very easy as well as you don't get into Manhattan, just drive along the shore line.

I think you could but only if he will be on your credit card and is in your room. Otherwise, not until his mother boards.
-
On the Epic and Getaway, they did at least 2 shows at the Manhattan Room and Tropicana (respectively).
-
I always buy the future cruise credits and i booked on board once. I had everything with me to do the booking. I knew the ship, date, room type, deck, etc... The Next Cruise staff was not up to speed on the promotions and supposedly, you got an "extra" for booking on board.
There was no extra and as soon as we got home, I called and completely rebooked to straighten things out.
I suggest get a future cruise credit or two, and book at home.

Usually, the MDR menu will be posted earlier in the day, so you can check it out. You won't have a problem.
if you download the app, you can make your reservations as soon as you decide.

In Naples just get off the ship and walk straight ahead about 3 blocks and you will come to Via Toledo. It is awesome with shops and bars and lots of pizza shops.
We actually walked up a small alley to a great pizza spot. Just explore and have fun.
Why you think you would get ripped off is odd. Naples is great!

Spice H2O is adult only, but no pool. Just a silly water feature. The Epic had a little pool in Spice H2O which we enjoyed. Not a fan of the Getaway.
-
There is usually a area reserved for Haven guests. But for the rest of us, festival seating! So arrive early to get your spot.
-
We loved the Western Med on the Epic! Spice H2O was awesome for the day at sea (just get there early). We mostly explored on our own (except the Vatican which we would skip the next time).
We thought the food on the Epic was really good, but we are underwhelmed with the specialty dining, we are generally disappointed).
the most important thing is to have a good attitude! you will have a blast!
How to address problem with cabin steward

You should get an email soon with a survey, but that won't do any good. I would call NCL and ask them how to process my concerns.
