  1. We are in 11706, Haven forward-facing penthouse suite on BA March 16th - small balcony on side.

RinaKop...how did you like the suite? We are booked in the same one in a couple of weeks. We also have 3 other cabins booked in the same category as part of our group.

  2. One thing to remember about the use of your points for a reception...more and more people are getting the beverage package. While the reception is a great way to get together, it may not have as much value if everyone is on the package.

We used our points to add OBC to our friends rooms. We still arranged to get together, but this gave them the chance to use the $$$ for spa, pictures, dinner, or whatever else they wanted.

  3. Hello,

Upon further research, I think we'll be planning a destination wedding on Saba Island, just off of St. Maarten (at least THIS Caribbean port allows same sex marriage) and am wondering about any couples' experiences/reviews/suggestions......Also, the Saba website was a bit confusing, at least for me, in terms of their marriage requirements, so if someone could dumb that down for me, it would be greatly appreciated as well.

    Thanks in advance:D

    Congratulations!

I read the requirements and was surprised to see that you need 2 witnesses if married in the courthouse and 6 if married outside of the courthouse. You need to notify them/apply a month in advance and supply proper documentation. The list of documents needed (birth certificate etc) is a little confusing. Birth certificates that are less than a year old???

The marriage application process for New York is not that difficult, but getting our out of state officiate was an unexpected requirement. We had to get approval from our Bishop and the Bishop of New York, but then our priest from Idaho had to submit an application to register.

Keep us informed of your plans!

  4. We have never had an issue on any ship. As for the Breakaway, this will be our second time sailing on her. The first was the inaugural sailing from NY to Bermuda. We were treated very well by all of the staff up to Kevin Sheehan/CEO.

The executives on the ship were also very interested in our comments and experiences as gay clients.

  5. Thank you for the well written review! I know it should go without saying, but thank you for being mindful of your children and the rules. It sounds like you were balancing the children having a lot of fun, the safety rules, and the consideration of other guests.

I also appreciate the balanced description of the issue and resolution by the crew. I am a big NCL fan and find their staff to be hard workers. I certainly don't envy their jobs!

    Thanks again.

  6. Did you mean 4/27/14? Will you be on the Breakaway or Getaway? I noticed that you posted it twice and I am guessing that you are just overly excited!

We will be on this sailing. We are getting married on the ship before leaving port in New York.
  7. AHHHH ONLY 77 DAYS at the time of this post! Tonight's our "Groomal" party and things are starting to get "real"!!

Seems like forever ago since I posted this! Thank you all of your input!

Planning is FINALLY done! Had some road bumps along the way, but we were able to work them out with the different NCL Staff's/groups etc.

Waylon...your wedding is just one month away!!! I am sending you both warm wishes as you make the final preparations for the big day. I am sure you are excited to head to warm weather too!

    All the best...Robert

  8. Our first suite experience was on the Pearl and Patrick was also our concierge. We were not impressed with him at all. He was not really very helpful or available. We were in an aft cabin which is removed from many other suites. For that reason, we kind of wrote it off to our cabin location and the fact that he must be very busy.

Our Butler was great. He was training someone else on the other side of the ship, but that did not stop him from making us feel special.

Last year, we had Ruth on the Breakaway. This was the innaugural trip out of New York to Bermuda. The staff was still learning the ropes and getting their own bearings, but they were the top performers for the new ship. Ruth and her team were AMAZING. Always available, helpful, and cheerful. They also worked well with our butler to create an amazing experience.

Looking forward to our suite on the Breakway in April!

  9. Robert and Ralph, what a great website you have created! Wishing you both all the best in wedded bliss, a terrific cruise with friends and family and a lifetime of joy (and more cruising!) :)

I am glad you posted, and may reach out to you with questions. Rowell and I live in SF and are looking at a 14-day round trip cruise in 2015 from SF to Alaska on Celebrity. For the past few weeks have been discussing the option of doing what you are, getting married on embarkation day. Since most of our family and friends are here in Nor Cal, it makes sense (wish it was a warmer cruise like you are taking - but we'll be cozy!).

    How exiting for you both!!

Thanks Gary! Congratulations to you and Rowell. We would be happy to share our experiences. In fact, today is the 45 day countdown and we just received a final letter with wedding day timeline. We had already sent them ours and it is just the final clarifications. There has to be some flexibility due to Customs and Border Security so planning to make the most use of the time is key. Royal Ocean Events and NCL have been great.

We might have warmer weather, but a 14 day Alaska trip sounds wonderful.

You can reach us via the wedding website. It has our wedding e-mail address.

  10. Robert,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! My husband and I were just married on 12/12. It's so exciting. I have to tell you how impressed I am with your website and all your planning. You obviously know how to have a good time. :) You, Ralph, your families and friends are very lucky and are going to have a blast.

Thank you very much Michael..and congratulations to you both!!!

  11. We are 45 days out and received a letter from Norwegian going over the details of our wedding day. It is very thorough and includes the wedding coordinator's names and phone numbers, which staterooms will be ready early for the wedding party, our menu, our songs, etc. The letter was professional and personal.

I am so impressed with both Royal Ocean Events and NCL!

  12. Our wedding is a weekend long experience for our guests. It includes dinner at Robert De Niro's Tribeca Grille, a 50 person part bus for a night on the town (rooftop bars etc., Times Square, and more)...

Our cake is being made by The Cake Boss/Carlo's Bake Shop, we designed custom cookies as guest favors, beach bags filled with gifts for sailing guests, and we created the attached lanyards for everyone to wear when they get on the ship. The lanyards are going to set them apart and create a sense of "an event".

The lanyards also have a reminder of the place and time for the wedding.

  13. Neither of us is wearing a wedding dress (I am sure you are relieved!), but thought you might appreciate this suggestion for the men in the wedding party.

We are getting marrier on the ship while she is at port in New York City. With everything going on, taking pictures, ability to say good-bye to non-sailing guests, and enjoy sail away with our sailing guests...we decided to keep our rented tuxedos and have a courier pick them up when we reach the first port (Cape Canaveral). Using a national rental XXXX Warehouse chain, meant that this is one less task on the wedding day. This saved us the cost of a full week rental too.

This might not work for most itineraries, but it does for us.

  14. We have not packed a suit for the last few cruises. Personally, we like to dress business casual if we are eating in a main dining room or one of the specialty restaurants. I would not mind if we were only eating in the buffet or O'Sheehan's. If we want pictures we look nice and yet we are still quite comfortable.

It is just personal taste. I would not hesitiate to wear a suit/dress formal if I wanted to...that is the beauty of NCL. I am sure your wife will look beautiful and enjoy "putting on the Ritz".

  16. We are booked in an S7 (deck 11) in April. A few of our gusts are in S7s as well. One of our friends booked a different S7 on deck 13 and it appears that their balcony will be a little different than ours. Theirs seems cut off by the curve of the ship on that floor.

I have not heard about any other differences.
