  1. All the cruiselines quote that figure for health and safety. They don't make men like they used to,I used to carry 50kg cement on my shoulder. You will have no worries as long as you don't bring one of those big trunks like on the Titanic.

We must all be wimp's now ,out in the philippines i watched a guy unloading a wagon ,he was carrying two bags of cement at a time on his head ,taking them about 50 yards ,when i checked the weight they were 40kg EACH ,only a small guy as well

  2. Weecountryman - there shouldn't be any duty free shops within the EU but there are at the European ports and they do have duty free prices. They even say they are selling 'duty free' goods in the airport and on the plane when flying within the EU BUT they don't sell Booze and Cigarettes and I think it's a real con. How can they be duty free? and if so why can they only sell duty free alcohol and cigarettes when you're flying to a non EU airport? I can buy my favourite perfume on line cheaper than in any UK airport 'duty free shop'. I have also tried to refuse to give my boarding pass when buying after sun in the airport 'duty free' shop when travelling to the EU as advised to do last year by a report in a newspaper which said they were claiming VAT back and not passing it on to the customer but I was not allowed to complete my purchase unless I did The whole thing is ridiculous

If they ever refuse to complete your purchase ask them to call the airport duty manager ,they will quickly change their mind

  3. My wife was refused a bottle of water and 2 magazines in W H Smiths in Newcastle airport this month because she didn't have her boarding card on her. Ludicrous behavior, they don't charge duty free prices anyhow.

They cant demand your boarding card for any non duty free items ,they still have the self checkout tills set to ask for it and then they stall when you dont scan it ,you just call an assistant over to overide it.

Used newcastle twice this year with no problem in smiths.

  4. the only person mooting cutting flights after brexit is the demented wee man from ireland, nothing to do with legislation he just likes opening his mouth and spouting crap , just think how much more successful his buisness could be if he didn't keep pi**ing his customers and staff off

  5. Sorry, it is a political inspired worry but politics is best left out of it.!

nothing happening with TUI airways except they are based in the UK and might not be able to fly after next March if the planes air worthiness certificates are invalid and the maintenance procedures are not accredited

sorry folks, I don't want to start a discussion on 'that' subject, just worried about my favourite cruise line

Dont understand where you are coming from , i presume you are talking brexit , why would that have any effect on certificates and maintenance ,they have nothing to do with the eu ,it's international standards governed by each countries equivalent of the CAA ,nothing to do with the eu

  6. Hi

On the spirit can anyone confirm what type of sockets they are please, ideally with a pic or exact type, and also how many are in each standard cabin please? Is this the type? (see attached pic)

I will need some more adapters as seems the holiday fairy has lost them again this year!

    Thanks

Thats the right type ,two pin round. No per cabin could vary, probably at least two but unless anyone has stopped in every cabin hard to be definitive.

  7. Hi there!

Took our first Celebration cruise last year, having previously been with RCI and Azamara. Really enjoyed it, a back to back out of our home port of Malaga, so convenient!

We're on Spirit, again out of Malaga, for a week from 07th Oct 18, great Cruise Only price - last year they wouldn't give us anything off for not using 4 flights!

I understand the difference in the chartering of these two sister ships by Thomson/Marella but have a couple of questions for knowledgeable Spirit cruisers.

Read on here that the draught beer is 'Mythos' a Greek beer, part of the Carlsberg group - is this correct and is it the only draught available on board?

Also, are there 'fridges in all cabins? We are quite happy with a basic inside cabin, as we have 180 degree views of the Med. every day!

Finally, could not see a DIY laundry room on the deck plans, we had a couple on Celebration, am I missing something, got to keep the wife occupied! (Not serious, honestly!)

    Thanks in anticipation.

    Draught lager is san miguel.

No fridges in lower grade cabins.

    Laundry rooms easily available.

    Simples.

  8. howmuch! was aware of that and was pointing out that although I got a good Cruise Only price this time, sometimes it is cheaper to book with flights than just cruise only - and I agreed saying that last year it was exactly the same price with or without flights.

Something ive pointed out a few times in the past, full package cheaper than cruise only ,dont make sense ,anyway good news that at last their is some sensible cruise only prices ,spirits last 3 weeks are all good , £324 to £362 ,booked the last two weeks and with the flights ive got AT THE MOMENT about £600 saving on like for like fly cruise

  9. You will find, that the duty-free shop will sell you the bottles but they are delivered to your cabin at THE END of the cruise and not for consumption during the cruise. Same as if you brought bottles on from a port of call.

What Rum & Gin's are you after?

Since when ,they tried pulling that stunt very briefly a few years ago but ive not heard of it since ,what would be the point ,even if you drank it in the bars you would be saving them money by not drinking the free stuff

  10. Just to say 10 days in and still no e mail confirmation.Phoned in and hey presto they have received it and now I have a reference number. Also told could be up to 56 days replying.Well that’s a start then !,👍😎

Did you get it in writing ,??? you would need to submit a copy of it rather than just a ref no if you had to go the cedr route ,dont expect to hear from them before the 56 days ,its a slow job

  11. Hi,thinking of doing a bit of sightseeing, perhaps Premier Inn Quayside.Taxi looks cheap there from central station.Premier Inn is the way to go for us,we use them everywhere, cheers,Brian.

Looks a good way ,less than 1/2 mile from central, metro goes from out of airport to central with no changes or just taxi straight from airport, only abou 7-8 miles airport to prem inn.

  12. Could even use premier inn at the airport then metro and Marella shuttle on day of cruise. Nearest metro station to port is North Shields where you would need a taxi or another bus to the port.

Theres actually two metro stations (percy main and meadowell) nearer but they are in the middle of housing areas, no chance of a taxi and a bit far to drag cases, shields is supposed to have a taxi rank at the station so always the best bet.

  13. Has anyone any idea how soon before TUI will acknowledge receipt of my e mail claim?

Should be pretty much instant ,i would start again if i were you ,i would say their system has not completed its task ,phoning them probably waste of time, like i said before you need to get some sort of ref no as you have no other means of knowing your claim has been logged with them, their end is all about delaying tactics hoping people get fed up and forget about their claim.

  14. No e mail confirmation just a note on screen after submitting stating TUI will look into it.Have sent another one asking for a confirmation e mail.

Very important that you get that confirmation of your claim submission , the reason being if (as they probably will)they totally ignore you, you have got to wait 8 weeks to submit it to CEDR , without that confirmation you have no case reference no to give them and the only way then is to resubmit your claim to TUI ,which is basically a new claim and again you are back to the 8 weeks cycle.

Seem to think on the TUI online claim form there is a box to tick that says would you like them to contact you , crafty gits ,dont tick it and you are telling them that although you are making a claim you dont want them to contact you which could even mean they wont contact you to confirm your claim has been recieved.

Just dont expect things to happen quickly but happen they will ,just keep us informed on here when you get any responses. been there ,done it,got the money

  15. Has anybody been on the Spirit recently? I'm considering it for August but am hearing nothing good about it,,I'm trying not to listen or take any notice of such moans but I've yet to hear anything positive:( lovely itinerary and nice options for stay after cruise,,and very good price compared to others. We always do Thomson cruise n stay in summer but not been on the spirit.

Ask yourself why its still the top rated/most repeat passengers in the fleet.

  16. Ignore the previous post!

You drive into the car park first where they check your name off the booking list and provide you with an envelope containing your welcome letter, cruise card and luggage labels (unlimited luggage allowance). Once you have attached the labels to your cases these are taken directly to the ship.

You then park your car where directed and board the free bus to the check in area (details in an earlier post).

On your return to Port of Tyne at the end of the cruise, catch the bus from the ship to the car park where your luggage will be waiting.

It's very well organized as they do it all the time, not just for Marella.

THEY ARE NOT PARKING AT THE PORT CAR PARK read the post properly

  17. We go on 7th July and have been advised to drop our luggage and then park the car. We are parking across the road on a drive. So I guess it will be the same for you, drop the luggage first.

I would reckon you will need to drop your luggage at the terminal (dont try and enter car park as you wont have the ticket, or follow other cars, go straight to the front of the terminal where the taxis go), one of you stop with the luggage while the other goes off to park the car, is the person whose drive you are using going to drop you back at the terminal ?? it will probably be a fair walk.

  18. Which fire exit did she stand in front of?

    Did Marella offer compensation?

    Did they accept liability?

    etc etc

It is difficult to judge this episode with out a lot of detail especially as IMO the Daily Wail has always had it in for Thomson/TUI/Marella

Agree Dave , often the facts are cherry picked to sex up the story, something we will never know in this case, doors are never good things to stand by marked or unmarked, the basic concept of them is to open at some point in their lives

  19. If you are calling at gib ,brandy ,and the rest of spirits are £7 in plastic bottles, cigs are a lot cheaper just before you get back on board.always haggle in gib ,I don't usually but I got the wife a new wedding ring, engagement ring for a decent price, just need to go on another cruise to have a blessing at sea enjoy your cruise

spirits up the street are the cheapest if you shop around ,cigs are no longer cheap in gib, they have raised the tax so much they are now only any good to the spanish migrant workers, also i would not risk buying up the street any more for the fear of fakes they are smuggling in, the ACTUAL duty free shop in the terminal shoul be able to undercut the rest easy but are just too greedy.best buy for cigs was malaga port duty free shop, about £20 ,rolling baccy best is cadiz duty free , amber leaf 80 euro for 20 x 50g, gv 90euro for 20 x 50g, the duty free shop opened on spirit last week and the prices even with any offers are crap and easily beaten ashore

  20. As I said originally it now states the allowances on the e tickets and its clearly stated in the brochure Itw63 asked a simple question and must now be worried with some of the posts, we should not decry check in personnel for doing their job correctly and enforcing the 7kg limit just because some do not yes it would be nice to have consistency but if you stay within the standards you should have no problems

Sent from my VF-895N using Forums mobile app

Why should the Op be confused with some posts, nobody has said to ignore the 7kg limit, quite the opposite really, you ignore it at your peril ,all thats been stated is what can and does happen in real life

  21. Why would Marella do it different to all the other cruise lines that sail from Southampton? Wouldn't it be better to use the tried and tested method??? Time will tell !!

Because they are Marella, they do things their way ,and their ways are tried and tested as well, when was the last time you got cabin no tags through the post from them ?, when was the last time you downloaded copies of tags to print off from them ? its not their way.
