  1. Apart from the three evening shows you can pre-book on Anthem does anyone know what entertainment/shows/bands are on please? On the Indie they had 2 street parties whilst we were on for 8 nights but can't see any further entertainment on the anthem. Thanks

Rock The Boat - classic rock covers

    Christopher Caress - hypnotist

Bobby Davro (yes, Bobby Davro) - comedian, one night only

JK as Robbie Williams - RW tribute act

Stowaway Pianist - at various locations, but also a performance in the Royal Theatre

Stars vs Stripes - Give Us A Clue / charades

    The Quest

Anthem Rocks - Dance party (rock n roll)

Virtual Symphony - virtual performance by The American Philharmonic (Two70)

    Nightclub with DJ Sellexc

Big Band @ Music Hall - The Anthem of the Seas Orchestra, feat. the High C's Horns

    and probably much more...

    :)

  2. Realising how lucky we were. 6246 had no noise (a little creaking, maybe, on the Bay of Biscay) and had an unobstructed view. But then it was a D3. Didn't hear the neighbours, there was nothing of interest below (maybe the swooshy doors on deck 5) and no interior cabins or crew areas opposite.

  3. Hello all,

I haven't been on Royal for two years, and haven't been on a Quantum class ship either so I have some questions for recent Anthem cruisers.

    1. What eating places are open 24 hours? Sometimes I wake up very early (4am!) and like to go for a walk and a snack :D

    2. I will be a platinum member on this cruise. Are there any coupons which are significantly different over gold?

    3. Can you get out onto the bridge wings from the Solarium all the time? That looks like a decent spot for sailaway.

    4. Am I still able to remove the auto-gratuity? I have always preferred to pay tips directly in cash and would like to be able to do this on Anthem.

    5. I am debating whether it is worth it to get the drinks package, and can't seem to find a definitive answer on how much drinks cost! I've heard they are going to be $12 each?

    Thanks :D

    2. Some items in the gift shop had 10% off for Platinum.

    3. No. Maybe in port, but the 2 times we tried at sea, the doors were locked shut, although that was later in the evening. Who knows!? :D

    5. Cocktails from the Bionic Bar were $12, some may be more. Non alcoholic drinks were significantly less $4. Selected cocktails at dinner in the 4 complimentary restaurants were $14.

  4. Good morning:

We are celebrity cruisers with elite plus status. Since the Summit is the only ship they sail out of NJ, we are looking at Anthem of the Seas trying to avoid having to fly. Our problem is a strong sensitivity to smoke and we understand that the smoking allowed in the casino doesn't exactly stay in the casino. We would be booking an OV stateroom and notice they have some on deck three forward of the casino. Do you know if those rooms would have the problem with smoke smell seeping into them? I think otherwise we could find ways around the ship while avoiding the casino area.

I would appreciate your input. Thank you very much.

    Jennie

I didn't notice the smoke smell outside of the casino, but then it doesn't bother me too much (but I am a life-long non-smoker). The most noticeable area for smoke smell was near the smoking area on deck 14, port side next to the outdoor pool. But, that was normally because I forgot it was there and ended up walking straight through it :roll eyes:. There was no smoke smell, as far as I could tell, in the outdoor pools. For info, the other smoking area was a (semi-)enclosed shelter on deck 5, starboard. You can see where it is on the plan - it's the area to the right of Vintages, where there should be a lifeboat (don't worry, it's still there - just moved forward :D ). There is no real call to walk past it, so unless you have a balcony nearby, then this smoking area should be no worries!

  5. Hi,

We had a 'superior' balcony stateroom (D3) on deck 6, port side, number 6246. It was near the forward lift (elevator) lobby which was handy and we didn't notice any noise. Many of the deck 6 staterooms have partially obscured views due to the lifeboat supports, but ours didn't. We also used the sofa bed as beds 3&4 for the kids. The only gripe about that was with the sofa as a bed, it was tight getting to the balcony as there was hardly any gap between the units and the bed.

The kids had the soda package which they didn't use that much but was convenient to have.

For the evening meals, we only ate in the 4 comp. restaurants. I thought the food was good. Service was good, but I think that more wait staff are needed as the ones that were there seemed to be always rushing around. Me and my wife's favourite was Silk, my kids liked American Icon and Chic, but I couldn't find fault with any of them. Even the Windjammer, which sometimes gets a bad rap, was good for lunch. American Icon was good for breakfast.

    Good :D

    :)

Apologies all, the stateroom was near the aft elevator lobby (not that it makes much difference to you, but I like to be correct!) :D

  6. Do they still have the Italian Tea cocktail? It was one of my favourites on Independence but apparently there is no stock cocktail menu anymore and it varies in each bar :/

I've not heard of that cocktail before. Mind you, I only ever ask for a Caipirinha or Long Island Iced Tea! I expect that if a bartender has heard of it, then they'll make it for you. It might even be available in the Bionic Bar. I you know how to make one, then you can enter a custom cocktail and the robots will make it for you!

  7. Hello, thank you for the time to write these! We are due to sail on Anthem in October with 2 of our children and am puzzled about an indoor pool! I'm assuming the weather will not be warm enough for the outside pools (it's the TA) but the only info I can find is the solarium pool that is indoor, but adult only! Do you know if there is another? Thank you in advance!

    You're welcome!

The Solarium is indoors on deck 14 at the front end of the ship and is adult only. Between that and the outdoor pool and the H2O Zone is a pool area with a retractable roof. I would guess that the roof would be closed for your TA which would make this pool an indoor pool. There were kids in it on our cruise (including ours). Have a look at this deck plan (deck 14 is the 3rd from the right). The Solarium (& Devinly Decadence) are forward. Behind this is the indoor pool (with 2 whirlpools). There is also a Pool Bar there. The next 'zone', with the Sky Bar, pool, whirlpools, and H2O Zone, is outdoors. You can see on the plan there are horizontal lines running across the width which show roughly where the 'zones' are. [The movie screen is also in the wrong place on this plan. It's actually along the length of the outdoor pool on the port side rather than across the width]. Hopefully, despite my rambling, it should be fairly clear. If not, I'm sure someone else will be able to chip in! :D.

  8. Ship - Anthem of the Seas

    Deck - 6

    Stateroom # - 6246

Stateroom Category – D3 Superior Balcony (w. convertible sofa bed)

Starboard or Port Side - Port

Quiet Stateroom? (With comments on problems) – Yes. Although the stateroom is very close to the forward elevator lobby on deck 6, there was no noise. There were no interior rooms opposite, or anything of note directly below.

Was stateroom a connecting stateroom? - No.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Unlike most on deck 6, our view was unobstructed by lifeboats. Couldn't see much of the ship forwards as it is just on the rear of 'the bulge'. Towards the aft, a better view of the ship (and the roof of Jamie's Italian outdoor eating area).

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - I think it was about normal.

Was wind a problem? - No more than would be expected.

If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? - N/A

Any specific problems with this cabin? - With the sofa bed in bed-mode, there was not much room between it and the drawers / mini-bar when trying to get to the balcony. Didn't really affect us as we're all quite small(!) and were happy to climb over the sofa bed.

Any other comments? - As you enter the stateroom, the bathroom is to the right. The bed is at the bathroom end of the room, with the head of the bed to the right. The sofa bed is also on the right, nearer to the balcony than the bed, with the desk, drawers and minibar opposite on the left. The TV is a flat screen mounted on the wall opposite the bed. The muster point for this stateroom was in the Silk restaurant, which was only 2 decks down, almost directly beneath. I would book this stateroom again.

    :)

Apologies, it's close to the aft elevator lobby. :o

  9. I know that there a Flowrider lessons, but aren't there "free slots" so you just can try it without booking a lesson?

Yes. We booked a lesson and there were 6 of us in total for that hour session (4 from our group and 2 'strangers'). We were able to book that online at home, along with our complimentary RipCord by iFLY session. However, I believe that there were FlowRider sessions where no reservation was required. By way of example (my emphasis), from the Cruise Compass for Day 5...

2:00 pm - 4:00 pm FlowRider Boogie Boarding, FlowRider, Deck 15

2:00 pm - 6:00 pm RipCord by iFLY (reservations required), RipCord by iFLY, Deck 15

    ...

    4:00 pm - 6:00 pm FlowRider Stand-Up Surfing, FlowRider, Deck 15

    :)

Sorry I can't help with your Puzzle Break question though. :(

  10. Maybe the bookings hadn't been unlocked on the app at that time then?. We had a similar issue trying to book Flowrider lessons online before departure. No joy for weeks, and then all of a sudden they were available. I didn't see the complimentary Flowrider sessions available to book anywhere, but then I wasn't really looking for those!:D. North Star is a definite turn up and wait event.

    :)

  11. Read post #2

It can't be clearer than that.

You can not pre book on line

You can not book on royal IQ app

You can only book with seaplex staff, entertainment staff or customer services.

North Staff IS NOT bookable. It's turn up and queue. Best time is morning in port if you are not going ashore (or till later).

Flowrider IS bookable in advance on line or the app or the TV in your cabin.

Actually, you *can* book Puzzle Break with the Royal IQ app once on board. We'd just left it too late and there were only a few single slots available. We wanted to do it as a couple. :)

  13. If you really wanted to see some of the port (not pretty, but quite interesting) you could come off at the roundabout where the A35 and A33 meet, head down First Avenue, then Western Avenue, and finally West Bay Road and Solent Road. This is the way our taxi brought us (he did ask first!).

Berth 101 is the one nearest to Mayflower Park and either gate 8 or 10 will work.

  14. Were they rotating menus in the four included restaurants? I'm still trying to figure out how to book for our 8 night cruise based on the menus changing. Please let me know what the menu schedule was. Thanks!

I just posted about this here.

Almost forgot, the menus in the restaurants change slightly every so often so that it's not *exactly* the same each time. Maybe one or two dishes change. And, there's always a group of 'core' options that are the same across all the main restaurants. Things like: grilled chicken breast, baked salmon, Manhattan strip steak...The same went for the starters / appetisers, too

I think the menus changed every rotation. I would guess that for an eight nighter it would be something like:

    Night 1 - The Grande menu 1

    Night 2 - Silk menu 1

    Night 3 - American Icon menu 1

    Night 4 - Chic menu 1

    Night 5 - The Grande menu 2

    Night 6 - Silk menu 2

    Night 7 - American Icon menu 2

    Night 8 - Chic menu 2

There isn't much difference between menu 1 and menu 2 within each restaurant, although obviously there are differences across the restaurants!

    :)

  16. We 'did' North Star when we were in port in Gibraltar. We went later on in the day, after our Mediterranean Steps excursion and a short duty-free shopping visit. There was quite a queue when we were there, but I have seen other times with a shorter line. I think the ride is about 10 minutes and there is room for (I think) 14 at a time. I would estimate that we waited about 30 minutes in line. It didn't go out over the side of the ship, probably because we were in port. I did see it go out over the side one sea day.

They did host Quest in SeaPlex. I think it was day 12, but I can't find that Cruise Compass at the moment to confirm.
