I have been on nine Carnival cruises beginning in 2002. I hated the first one so much that I did not cruise again until 2007 when I had my favorite cruise. I have been on 7 more since then. Some were great, some good, and others were average. Why did I hate my first cruise I hear you ask? It was not Carnival or the ship. I was part of a group and did not enjoy the things the group wanted to do. When I cruised again with just my wife I loved it.

We did this cruise in mid September 2007. We did not have a balcony on this cruise but did have a window through which we saw whales. There were a lot of sightings, particularly in the Bay of Fundy. This was perhaps my favorite cruise and I highly recommend it. I also recommend cruising the west coast and the cruise out of San Juan which were my next two favorite cruises. I have cruised Alaska but it rained everyday and while it is worth doing, I would rank it no higher than 4th or 5th. Anyway, we did the land and sea tours in Boston and Portland. I remember Portland as a good tour but the Boston tour was disappointing. In Halifax we took the city tour and then went to Peggys Cove. You have to see Peggys Cove. It is other worldly, like nowhere else, you have to see it. Oh, the weather was beautiful short sleeve shirt weather each day in the ports. I don't really remember the weather after dark but it was probably chilly or cold. I seem to recall the fog horn at times sounding every 5 minutes at night. St. Johns! How could I forget St. Johns. We took the city tour and went to the reversing falls. That was OK but what stole my heart was that as you sail away A lone bagpiper plays on the dock. This also happens in Halifax but in St. Johns I was at the back on the top deck and could still hear the piper playing even after I could not see him anymore and eventually the music faded away as the distance increased. At Halifax the piper just stopped after a short time but for all I know the one at St. Johns played all night.

I am in favor of the current smoking policy and hope it continues.

You ask, "Should I pack my Tux". That really depends on you. When I began cruising in 2002 I wore a suit and tie but over the years my cruise attire gradually became more casual. On my last cruise in March I wore a pair of dress slacks and long sleeve dress shirt. No tie, no jacket.

Two weeks ago we had lido balcony room 9266 on the Carnival Glory. Anytime the DJ was playing we could hear the thump thump music on our balcony.

what was your cabin number?

We were on the Glory last week. Our room steward Elmer and one of our waiters MYO were the bright spots onboard this ship. The guest service manager also was very helpful with trying to keep the music and singing from the 3rd deck lobby bar from disturbing us in our 9th deck room. The DJ plays almost all rap and hip hop music at the Lido pool and he plays it so loud we could hear the thump thump from the music on our balcony. It was an irritant all week. I complained about this but the CD only called once while we were at dinner. He left a message but never called back. This contrasted sharply with the guest services manager who called and spoke with me 3 times to make sure we were satisfied with his efforts. We were. The CD did send a bottle of wine and some chocolate strawberrys to my room but I had no interest in these and the strawberrys sat unused. My wife tried the wine but did not like it so it was discarded. We tried the Guys burgers twice and although they are ok, the burgers Carnival had before were better. The vibration in the Platinum dining room is so bad that we saw glasses and a bottle of wine walk off the tables since there are no tablecloths on most nights.

Last week we had a balcony on the lido deck of the Carnival Glory. The thump thump from the rap and hip hop music from the Lido pool area was a constant irritation all week whenever we sat on the balcony. Since I spend a lot of time on my balcony it was like sitting next to a loud music playing car at a traffic light the entire week. If this does not stop we will not be back.

We were on the Carnival Glory last week and in the rear dining room the vibration was so bad that glasses and bottles of wine walked off tables near us.

I love the Pride. She was my first ship out of Port Canaveral in 2002. We also cruised on her in 2008 out of Long Beach and in 2011 out of Baltimore. She has been around. You will notice a difference in the Carnival product. It has changed. Some changes are for the better and some not but this will be up to each person to decide.

I realize we can't bring food back on the ship from a port but what if we dock in Key West and the ship is from Florida can we bring back bakery items?
Technically you cannot take food from the ship to the shore or bring food from the shore onto the ship. Enforcement of these rules seem to be haphazard.

Hi there,
I hope this is not a stupid question. My DH and I have only cruised about eight times and mostly on NCL. Although I can easily "dress up" for Gala Night my husband refuses to take a suit, dress shoes, etc. So we have NEVER eaten in the MDR on Gala nights because I presumed we would not be allowed in unless he was wearing a suit. Now I have read that as long as he is presentable then they would let us in. We have been missing out on the lobster and prime rib for years! So, he would be wearing pressed Dockers and a long-sleeved dress shirt with loafers and I would be wearing a dressy pantsuit. I would like to find out beforehand if others have entered the MDR similarly dressed on Gala night. Thanks so much.
Otherwise it will be back to the buffet.[/QU
I wear a hawaiian shirt and slacks for dressy night and all the other nights as well.

On his Facebook page John stated that one of the problems with wanting to add new positions like a reggae band would mean that another position would have to be removed or cancelled to create a crew quarters. Every crew cabin he said was full. I do not see Carnival taking away passenger cabins for crew members as the loss of revenue there would be $$$$$$
It looks like John has the beard attention and it will be interesting to see what they decide to do
The problem with the position held by John is that Carnival used to have reggae bands. They must have put them somewhere.

We have sailed out of New York, Baltimore, Port Canaveral twice, New Orleans, Vancouver, San Juan, and Long Beach. Our best port experience was Baltimore. Our worst was New Orleans. I have never seen such a disorganized embarkation as that place.

Somebody's got to ask. There has to be some kind of reasoning behind it.
To create a party atmosphere perhaps?
JT
Until recent years Carnival ships were designed by Joe Farcus. I have no idea why he favored such garish decorations. I believe the newest Carnival ships have more subdued decorations.

I usually stay on the port side and usually, but not always, that is the land side as well as usually being the side the harbor pilots board and depart the ship.
-
I signed but I do not expect anything to come of it. Carnival has made it clear that they do not care for the experienced cruiser. They are only interested in new cruisers that do not know how things used to be.

Hi.
I'm new to cruising. The last 2 were with celebrity and I just booked another 5 night on celebrity constellation for 4 people, (the kids got a sail free promo) and the total with taxes and gratuties for $1, 400 AND includes Alcohol with their 123go promo. I know this is a spectacular deal but the kids really want to go on a ship with a slide.
Pricing out breeze in october and because of early saver discounts the total with tax is $2,400 for the 4 of us in a Balcony.
On the past 2 celebrity cruises I kind of waited for a deal to come along and booked within a few weeks of cruising. This last one was booked because of the email I got on kids sail free.
So is this a good deal or should I wait and see if a better offer comes along?
This sounds like a really good price for 4 people on what is Carnivals newest ship. (The Sunshine is refurbished but not really a new ship).

you got to use some common sense... for example - people line up for their eggs fried as they like...that's the start of the buffet line. you don't want any fried eggs, there's nobody in front of the porridge or toast. you politely ask to cut in to get some cutlery and tray ( that area is crowded because that's where the line starts ), now you go grab your toast and jam and go eat. you are not interfering with anybody's opportunity to get the choice slice of bacon. The same thing happens at the deli... everybody wants a sandwich, they are lined up, you don't want a sandwich. You just want a pickle, go get your pickle and enjoy. You see it all the time, if all you want is a roll and the roll is at the end of the buffet. It's easy, you just ask someone that is in line if you can just grab a roll or you wait until nobody is in that area. It's not a big deal and they certainly wont run out of food.
You should be reasonably civilized because some people might be somewhat more sensitive than others, but since there are so many culinary options over the course of the cruise I wouldn't be too put out over a couple of rude peopl
My two cents worth
Ian
I also agree with you.
