Grilled JohnDory with a brown shrimp butter sauce, with a glass of chilled Domaine Leflaive. :D
Sounds great - where is it served?

Unfortunately, the seafood dishes are all rather disappointing given that they only deal in frozen product. One of my biggest gripes about cruising. They spend their days in ports all over the Caribbean brimming with wonderful fresh fish, but all they serve is frozen processed junk.
ouch! not what I was hoping to hear.

I do like a few drinks but not likely to do seven a day, however if I didn't have the drink package I'm too cheap to buy the fancy frozen drinks, martinis, special coffees etc - this way I don't have to think twice. I do like wine and while I've read the selection is not great at the price point I can always pay an extra buck or two if I want.

Also joining, myself and DD16 are doing our first girls only cruise on May 17 on the Oasis.
-
perfect - thanks.
-
on eastern Caribbean Oasis sailings? I want to make sure I don't book a specialty restaurant that night.
-
I want to make sure I hit all the highspots.... I've combed the menus but it doesn't look like fresh oysters are anywhere?
-
I did that - I didn't check out, clicked on "continue shopping" selected another reservation and it asked for my credit card again. Glad to hear you can do it though, I'll try once more and if it doesn't work I'll call (and sit on hold for an hour again...) Thanks for your help.

having to input my card number and info each time? Maybe I'm just stupid but I tried it a couple of times, couldn't get it to work and haven't had the time to sit down and do it one at a time - please help!!

I booked a cruise from a courtesy hold via phone (after waiting 45 minutes on hold at midnight :() and my name was spelled incorrectly. I sent in an email next morning to correct as I couldn't link it "my cruises" to change it myself as the named didn't match. Almost a week and still no response. I did call in and after about a 20 minute spoke to someone and corrected many errors in the reservation. I then asked about the dining packages as I couldn't find anything for our sailing on May 17, Oasis - was transferred to pre-cruise, again waited on hold for 20 minutes then the person insisted it was under dining until I forced him to go into my profile and look, and of course he couldn't find it. He then put me on hold for another 20 minutes and then he hung up. I'm pretty grumpy right now and will looking into transferring my reservation to a travel agent.

The walkie talkie idea was definitely received with a :eek:I think we'll do the post it/voice mail route - thanks to everyone for their help. I didn't look into the texting as it's atrocious through our provider in Canada.

anyone had any luck? how about sparkling wine?
-
Thanks for all the comments. Just as an FYI I'm not worried about her getting into "trouble" (and no I'm not naïve, she's just that kind of kid, now if it was her brother coming that would be another story :eek:in fact I expect her to spend a fair amount of time with me, but I'm also hoping she will meet some friends. Smart phone is way too expensive as we are coming from Canada.
-
I'm going alone with DD16 and was hoping for something I keep track of her with...
-
can you rent walkie talkies or best to take on? Any other ideas?
-
I will definitely encourage her too - a little bit of my selfish side doesn't want her to make too many friends and spend most of her time with me ;)

You can buy the beverage package and start using it as soon as you get on board.
I'm not sure what time we are actually on board, but was thinking that on day one won't get really used?

Welcome to CC!
There are clubs (Fuel, Living Room) designated just for teens...which means no adults allowed-ever:) Strongly encourage her to go the first night of the cruise so she can meet others her own age.
As for the balcony, Central Park is quiet but you will not see any ocean. If you could secure a BW balcony close to the aft end of the ship you would at least see the water....but the tradeoff is that it can be noisy.
She will absolutely not be allowed in any bars, disco, casino.
Have you joined your roll call Oasis May 17 Roll Call
Have fun!
signed up for roll call! Looks like there's a few teenage boys there - let's hoping some girl's do too or there could be trouble LOL
-
How about champagne? sparking wine? kir royals being included with the packages? :D
-
Thanks very much for all your help, clearly there are a few things that I guess I'll find out once on board - and don't worry, I won't be slipping her any adult bevies :eek:but she is excited about the all inclusive virgin frozen drinks.
As for the Chefs Table, is there an option to take her there? If so, is there a different price?
Also, for the beverage package - I understand you can book onboard if you want - starting on day two? Can you not buy for departure day?

Travelling with DD16 on the May 17th Eastern Caribbean sailing - newbies to this and have been combing the threads like crazy as the more I know, the more comfortable I feel.
1) Cabins - the inside, outside and balcony cabins are all pretty close priced - is a balcony worth the extra $500 for a central park view?
2) At night is she allowed in the dance clubs/bars?
3) Where, at 16 is she not allowed?
4) In terms of shore excursions and safety for two females should we be booking RCL or are we okay booking privately?
5) anyone else had the same type of trip and any tips or tricks?
I would like to thank everyone in advance for their help and promise (cross my heart) that when I return I'll be the on on the boards helping out others.

Just wanted to express my appreciation of all of your hard work. I'm cruising with my 16 year old daughter in May and am a bit nervous about the two of us on our own. Your review has given me some great insight to the boat.

I'm guessing that at the formal nights the food is, how do I say this, a level above the other nights?
