Hi all,
My wife and I are planning on visiting the Crown Grill on our forthcoming cruise. We have never eaten there before.
I've been looking throught the threads and I can't help but notice the number of posts along the lines of "the lobster tails are small, but they bring me as many as I want" or "I love it - I can have as many filet mignons as I fancy".
Now, while not appearing to be greedy, and having never asked for more previously, I was wondering what the etiquette for such is. Do you ask for more up front, or half finish your meal (i.e. the lobster, steak) and pull a waiter/waitress over and ask for more, while giving them puppy-dog eyes?
Thanks (in anticipation of a gut busting meal)

Martin, the new changes take effect for cruises beginning this fall, so your cruise in a few weeks is under the old system.
Ah, thanks for the clarification cheryl or tk :)
-
The theatre was packed and many people 'filled up' when the Last Post was played.
Filled up? I'd have blubbed like a baby.
As an aside, and as we're on the Crown Princess soon, how is she?

Is this different on cruises in Europe? We're off to Norway on the Crown in a few weeks :D, and the Planned Excursions part of my Cruise Personalizer says
"NEW Pay Before You Sail, Or Pay Later Onboard
You have the option to pay for shore excursions in advance of your cruise. If you wait, we will add the charges to your onboard account which is settled at the end of the cruise."

With you embarking in Athens, there is a duty free shop after security. It looked like it had been looted when we went in, people were clearing the shelves of spirits and wine as fast as the staff could re stock them. There were no checks when boarding. In fact we went back ashore and bought some more.
Had the lowest bar bill ever on a cruise
We're planning on it...and a request for our room steward to bring us ice at 5:30pm every day. My wife will be happy that Bailey's o'clock (usually reserved for P&O sailings) is back. :D

The VAT fiasco will certainly make us buy a lot fewer drinks than we may have. We were never going to go for the Cheers programme, but now we're actively going to watch what we're spending. A drop in the ocean (pun intended) but Carnival's loss nonetheless.

On a side note, how many "members" that post on here are actually Carnival employees? The lengths that some go, I suspect its more than just the one I am 100% certain about.
I'm not casting aspersions, but judging by the tone of the OP I think you can put Carnival ex-employees into that category too!

It is one of the late night venues.
Oh spiffing!

Hi all,
A question for those who have already been on the Vista. In a little under three weeks we'll be starting our cruise. :D I can see from the deck plans that our cabin (3219) is just under the Liquid Lounge. I was just wondering how late the venue stays open, and whether we're likely to hear anything from our cabin.
Cheers
Martin.

Jumping Jehosaphat!
Thank you. You have just made my day.

Sorry - senior moment - didn't read your original post closely enough.
No worries - I have more senior moments these days than non-senior ones

Plenty of sights to see through the town and port (just keep aiming straight when you leave the ship). Murcia is a lovely port to visit and its roughly 30mins away via train (station not far from port). This place has a lovely beach and wonderful restaurants. We also took the local catamaran in Cartagena roughly 6 euros each. Hope this helps
Thanks. I'll look into it.
Their web site shows that the museum is shut on Mondays - sorry.Errrr....this is the point of the post...
Cheers

Bump. Anyone?

Hello all,
We're visiting Cartagena on 23 November, which is a Monday. So...all the museums will be closed. We are scheduled to arrive at 8am and leave at 6pm.
Can anyone help us out with suggestions of places to visit ?
Alternatively, if anyone has experience of tours operating from Cartagena that don't cost a fortune, if you could detail I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance
Martin.

...remember but for such men we may well be sailing on a German Ship.
Well said indeed.

I can't remember but it's an own label mixed by Olly Smith!
Do recall the cost? I can't see the house wine in the downloadable wine list from the P&O website.
Thanks

While i'm here, what is Livorno like? Anything to do in this port?
Thank you in advance.
It might also be worth your while to pop over to the Italy forums to ask about Livorno... http://boards.cruisecritic.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=595

Be careful what you wish for. Its nearly 40 years since punk rock so teenagers from then are now in their mid to late 50's. You may soon be having the great british sail away to 'God Save the Queen' by the Sex Pistols and 'Londons Calling' by the Clash! Pogo by the Pool! Now theres a vision to conjour with!:D
You're saying this as if it were a bad thing! ;)

Two typos in one sentence. That's gotta be down to predictive text, so it serves you right !! :D
You shouldn't find it too difficult to find a willing cab if you hook up with like-mindeds, on the ship or the pier, though the driver will doubtless spend the whole drive trying to persuade you to take his Rock tour.
And he'd be well worth listening to, ESP if you have mobility issues. Cable car takes you to the top (taxi road is perhaps 100 ft short of the top) but it's a short hike to the apes den, a longer hike to st Michael's cave and for you an impossible hike to the Great Siege tunnels. And taxi to/from cable car plus cable car fare will be more than £22. There's a view south across to Morocco from the Jewish memorial, both west (Atlantic) and east (Med) from apes den cos it,s on the ridge, and north (Spain) from Gt Siege Tunnel. And across Algeciras Bay from St Michael's Cave if you don't want to go in the cave (15 to 20 minute stop, cave has steps). You,ll miss those sep viewpoints if you take the cable car.
The drive up the Rock is from near the cable car station, so indecision shouldn't cost you more.
Also be aware that the cable car service is suspended (pun intended) in moderate to high wind.
And the cablecar is prone to long queues, tho that shouldn't be a problem in October.
So, you can get a taxi to cable car station, but if you go alone switching to a Rock tour at the cablecar station will cost double (you pay £22 per seat in the vehicle).
I'd recommend the Rock taxi/minibus tour, but your money your choice
Enjoy, whichever way you do it
JB :)
Thanks for the info JB. Much appreciated.
I emailed the Gibraltar bus company who furnished me with the relevant bus route info which seems convenient both in terms of location and times, and a day pass only costs a couple of quid.
The Boss would really like a trip on the cable car so I think we'll try the bus route (pun also intended), and if we decide on a taxi from the cable car station we're not down too much (we'll lose rather more in the ship's casino I suspect ).
P.S. Next month is November...nearly Christmas!

Hi all,
My wife and I aren't incredible mobile, and we're visit Gib next month. I was wondering if anyone can advise re getting to (and from) the Bottom Cable Car Terminal from (and to) the port? I've read elsewhere that the taxi drivers are more interested in getting a car-full and doing their £22pp tours than doing an actual taxi a to b run. Any info on buses would be most appreciated.
Cheers
Martin
Blimey, what happened in that first sentence?

Yes, of course precautions are necessary, it was just that the notice started with "Following the recent news regarding the Ebola virus" and I couldn't find anything 'recent'. If someone in P&O has 5 minutes, maybe they could rephrase the notice to 'ongoing'.
-
Just received a booking notification with this attached:
Following the recent news regarding the Ebola virus, we wish to advise you that
in collaboration with international health authorities we have implemented new
screening and boarding procedures. Any passenger or crew member who has
travelled to or through Liberia, Sierra Leone or Guinea within 21 days of their
cruise departure date will be denied boarding.
This policy also applies to anyone who has had contact with or helped care for,
a person suspected of having Ebola within 21 days of their cruise departure
date. We are also screening our bookings for any passengers coming from these
countries. We continue to monitor the situation closely, along with our
colleagues in the rest of the travel industry.
Google News for 'ebola' has nothing remotely new. Anyone know anything? (Not that I'm in the group that will be denied boarding).

Please sir, can I have some more?

Hmmm....I'm thinking someone likes lobster!
Anyways, does anyone have any links or pics of recent Crown Grill menus?
Thanks
