  1. I currently have an a6000 with the 16-50 kit lens, 55-210 zoom and 35 fixed prime. It seems to make a good kit but I find when I am on cruises I often don’t want to stop to change lenses especially at the beach or on excursions. I am looking at the 18-135 or the 18-200 to be something I can leave on the camera and use for most outdoor shots. There is a huge price difference so any experience/ advice you can share is appreciated.

Just returned from our first time to St. Kitts and we loved our tour with Thenford Grey.  I only use a phone camera, but there are ample opportunities for great pictures from overlooks, the Brimstone Fortress high on a hill with ocean views, the Romney Garden had beautiful tropical trees and flower also with some ocean views,  the Batik ship there offered very colorful photos inside and out (batik drying and displayed on clotheslines), and Timothy Hill where you view the "backbone" of St. Kitts and see the Caribbean and Atlantic seas at the same time.  Enjoy the beautiful island.

Thank-you for the information. We always take an excursion offered by the ship, this trip it is Carnival. Hopefully we can find one that will go to these places.

One thing I like about the Sony 18-200 lens is that it is lightweight.  I bought a light neoprene cover for it to keep it protected and the whole thing fits in my crossbody travel purse.  I will be bringing my 16-50 lens along for use on the ship for the few times I may want to use it there.  Most of the time I will just use my cell phone on the ship.  But there are times (productions shows for example) that the a6000 will be better.

I love the photo's that you have posted and it looks like you are really doing well with the a6000.  I love my a6000 and bought it originally because it was so easy to take places however I now have a prime and a zoom and it takes a larger bag to carry everything.  I struggle on cruises as to what to take on which excursions.  Our last cruise I had a big backpack that my poor husband had to carry through the heat in Mexico.  I decided that next time I might need to downsize.  What is the travel purse that you use for your camera?

  4. What would be a recommendation of the nicest place to take photo's in St. Maarten?  We have been there twice, taken a tour in the rain that didn't allow for any really good pictures and once where the went to Maho Beach and did get some great shots of the airplanes.  We will be going in April of 2020 and understand that many things have changed there.

You might - or might not - hear a bit of noise from chairs scraping the deck during early morning cleaning.

Personally I wouldn't worry about it.  I have been aft and more central on deck 9 and enjoyed both cabins.  The views are wonderful.

    Happy sailing.

Great, thanks for that info we are looking forward to it!

  6. We are booked on the Carnival Magic for March of 2020 in cabin 9315, 9319.  At the time that we booked there were not many balcony rooms available that were together and we wanted two rooms for our group.  I saw that it was directly under the main pool area and was  hoping that you could give me some idea of the noise that might be present both at nighttime and in the day as well as pros and cons of this deck.

Had a similar offer a couple of days ago for our cruise at the end of August.  The "upgrade" was for an Aft balcony on deck 9, port side,  under the Tides pool bar area (cabin 9460 to be exact).  That was an immediate no way in hell.  Our second cruise was under the pool deck because my FIL wanted to be closer to things.  The frist, and last time we will ever make that mistake.

We are on deck 9 on the Magic, wanted two balcony rooms together and these were the only ones we could find.  What kind of noise did you have and was it all the time or just at certain times of the day?

  8. We were on the June 21-25 Bermuda 4 day and had YTD. We usually went down at 5:45 to Level 5 and NEVER had to wait - we were told to go immediately to the dining room and were seated as soon as we walked in. We did notice when we passed the check-in spot on 5 after we were done eating (about an hour or so later) that there was a line, but nothing crazy.

BTW, with all the negative reviews of the Horizon, I have to say we had an absolutely wonderful time! I had low expectations given the reviews, but the cruise was outstanding and the ship beautiful. I would sail her again in a heartbeat!!

Thank-you for saying that, I have seen the negative reviews too and wondered what was the problem.

  9. My husband and I are booked on the Horizon in February of 2020. We chose Your Time Dining since we wanted some flexibility. In the past we have mostly chosen early or late seatings but this time wanted to try something different. I have been reading that there are excessive wait times for YTD on the Horizon and wanted to ask for opinions on your choice for dining and why-thanks!

  10. That is so scary! We just rode that ferry on the 23rd. The ferry that was burned was right behind the one that we got on, at the pier. My husband even commented that there had definitely been a fire. We had no idea that it was a bomb. It really makes me re-think traveling to Mexico at all in the future.
