Waynetor, my husband and I (who have done a few B2B cruises like these and enjoyed them immensely) just sat together and read your report to date, and we look forward to your future posts. Thank you so much for taking the time to do a Live From. We are home this winter, and appreciate reports like yours so much more because they bring back wonderful memories.

Stay positive!  Test negative! Love that!

Healthy and happy travels to you both!

I remember reading many tales from your travels!  We are booked to be cruising in 70 days, fingers & toes crossed that it can still happen despite Russia's problems...

It simply means that you can share a table with anyone else on the ship. You are not limited to a table with your traveling companions.

I am so excited to hear this!  I love my hubby but I eat with him the other 330 days a year!!  I love meeting new friends in the MDR!  We'll be on the Enchanted in 79 days!!

We get our butter at Costco. Maybe Princess will issue all future Captain's Circle pins in a special "butter edition". All I know is that we have never had an issue with butter on our cruises and we really, really, really,  wish this crap wasn't screwing over our cruises.

Yes, I understand that this is a very minor issue in the overall scheme of things but... I am selfish. I believe that unselfish people are mostly a myth. People do act selflessly but they still probably have selfish instincts. They just overcome those instincts. Heck, I overcome them all the time. I still resent my cruises being messed with. We had plans. We had desires. We are people...

I love cruising with Princess - which is very odd as my wife and oldest son pretty much forced me to agree to our first cruise just to make my wife happy and put an end to the "stupid cruise crap" she wanted me to do.  (I totally blame my wife. She created the monster that is my cruise-obsessed person.) We were so totally stoked about our upcoming cruises this November/December. Freaking awesomely excited. It seems highly unlikely they will happen now which makes the "butter thing" a moot point.

I want to cruise! I want the "problem" of trying not to eat the dang rolls with butter. (Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....... I love the rolls with butter...........) I want the"hassle" of deciding whether to go to the show or watch MUTS or listen to the music in the Piazza or hang out in Wheelhouse or...  GAH! I freaking love it all. I thought I would hate it all and it would be stupid and "uppity" and all that stuff but I was wrong. I love it and I miss it. Even if I actually had ever experienced the "great butter fiasco" I would still want to cruise. I feel like a junkie who was promised a fix and then had it cruelly yanked away.

I hope cruising comes back soon. I may be an idiot - I know a number of folks who would definitely agree with that assessment - but there really is nothing like it at all to take its place. I know some folks think cruising is now a horribly stupid thing to do. After all, if one is restricted as to the amount of butter that is offered why would one even consider cruising under the best of circumstances?

    Hi ya Thrak!

Love your post.  It's so right on.  We just adjusted our cruises (AK exed, add SA), so at least a count down is back on for Nov 15. Praying 211 days is enough to make this mess go away, and have me drooling over my Twice Baked Goat Cheese Souffle again!!

Also, I buy my Kerrygold at Costco! ;D

    See you sailing AGAIN soon!

I agree prices fro the same itinerary have gone way up.  We had a 7 day Alaska booked for July, that we have decided to cancel. Next year's price has gone way up in the past week.  We still have a Search for the Northern Lights booked for October. The same cruise next year is about 2 grand more.

We did the Northen lights tour this past October! It was amazing!!  Cold, but worth it!

    Thank you!

    Hi Darcy,

We bought CCL stock before our 28n cruise last month, so we got the max OBC, but nowhere can I figure out how much OBC we'll get for our upcoming 11n & 12n B2B that we've booked. Sounds like you have the experience to know! Lol! Thanks!

  6. Yep, worked the same way on the Star this fall.  It was a blast for us first timers too.  If we'd badgered the guy not doing the last lock correctly sooner, my pal would've had it open, instead we were on the brink of the time, 5 more seconds, we'd have been out!

  7. I'm doing a repeat this October! Last Feb my friend and I cruised a 5n to Cabo, made friends playing Trivia, we had so much fun - we're doing a 7n Cali Coastal together Oct 6th! ;p

But I agree, friends are easier to make on the longer cruises. Did our 1st TA this spring, our dining table in the MDR had so much fun, that about a week in, another table was leaving the late dining, a woman stopped at our table and asked how long we'd all known each other, because we were having SO MUCH fun...you should have seen the look of shock on her face when I said, "8 days", our whole table was laughing so hard, we were just uncontrollable! We made friends (& social media friends now) from Washington, Florida, Canada, Russia, the Russians from Florida! I love keeping up with them all, it's so easy now!

DH & I are doing our first REALLY long cruise in March! The 28n Hawaii - Tahiti, etc. We are so looking forward to all those sea days from our aft balcony!! And making new friends!! Whose on the Star with us March 29???

    Happy Sailing!

  8. We were at Tivoli last month! It is beautiful at night. We also had Copenhagen Cards, those got us in. We went during the day, then got a hand stamp and came back late evening to walk around in the dark! It was wonderful both ways! After spending a few hours there and seeing it all in the daylight, we were surprised at how much we would have missed had we not seen it during the day! So do both! :D Have a blast!!

  9. Well, we received our stateroom tonight just in advance of sailing tomorrow. We had booked a mini-suite guaranteed and tonight we were very pleasantly surprised to see that we had been upgraded to a suite. :D

I am also of the view that upsells, rather than upgrades, are the norm. No idea why we were selected, but we are quite excited.

    Catherine

What a dream!! What a great chance to relax! Enjoy and come back & tell us how the suite life really is!! :D

  10. Back again! We had a great time in Cabo! We did the ship tour, Horseback Riding on the Beach. Less than 20 of us. The horses were in good shape, they don't "shoe" horses there, so their hooves showed cracks, but otherwise seemed healthy & well cared for. This is from my cabinmate, Terri, who owned her own horse until about 10 years ago. Anyway, it's your typical ride in a line, through a scenic desert area and down to the beach then down that deserted sandy beach for a nice long ride. The ride lasted a total of an hour & 20 mins. The best part though, they put Terri (knowing she'd owned a horse) on their most spirited horse - which insisted on being the lead horse. Later, as we were on the beach, she was riding alongside the front guide & asked "so, now what?" He told her to have fun & she was allowed to take off with that horse for a solo ride about 1/4 mile ahead of us down the beach! The guide turned to me & asked if I wanted to join her, knowing we were together, I said, Heck, no! I'm happy & safe in this line! ;p It did my heart such good, we've been friends more than a couple of decades & I know how much she has missed her horse! It was as though she was on her own private beach on her own horse...just a wonderful day!

We had dinner in Cabo & went back to the ship exhausted. We returned the next morning to do some shopping & managed to find some things to buy. The Arts & Crafts Market near the port should be named "Every Mexican Souvenir You Could Ever Want" vs arts & crafts...but it fit the bill for us! Something for everyone!

I'm so pleased she loved every minute of the entire cruise! Always need another cruise buddy! We're going to get our other 2 close friends on board next year with us!

Thanks for following along! DH and are are doing the TA on the Regal in April '18...grab a cabin and come along!! :D

  11. Hello friends! We're back from a wonderful experience! My pal had an awesome first cruise! She's hooked! It was so sweet to watch her see the Piazza for the 1st time, mouth agape and head swiveling, trying to take it all in!

Our initial internet glitch that delayed our sailing was the only issue, sail-away in the dark isn't quite the same... Our cabin C102 and our cabin stewardess, Tania, were both wonderful. We had late trad dining in the Botticelli dining room, Jeckiriz "Jack", and his ever-smiling assistant took great care in making sure we were all satisfied with our selections. Even kindly interrupting us, to get our orders, because we were all yakking so much, he couldn't find a break in the conversations! Obviously we had fun table-mates too!

We only did one trivia, my pal was getting worn out, I only sleep a max of 6 hours, and never expected her to do the same (I'm good at dressing quickly & getting out with my Kindle, to allow my cabin-mate to sleep like normal people do). By the 3rd morning of getting up with me, she fell asleep after breakfast, unintentionally. I came & went for 3 hrs, checking on her, adding to the note I'd left her. But at 3 hrs, that's it, Nap Time is OVER! ;p She couldn't believe she'd slept that long, I laughed & said, "Yes, having this much fun is HARD work!"

She joined in the Adult Pool Game competition that Dave (the CD) ran. He is hilarious, and it was a scream to watch the games! She had a blast. I also introduced her to my new favorite drink that I'd had on the Royal this summer (darn you, Ferdi (on the Royal) for suggesting that yummy one to me!) It's called a Milky Way, Grey Goose, Bailey's & Kahlua, with a little chocolate syrup decorating the frosted martini glass. How do I spell decadent now??? M-I-L-K-Y- W-A-Y! :')

Unfortunately, I must continue this in a few hours. DH had to deal with a house flood while we were gone, contractors will be back here shortly, it's only the beginning of the fun around here...up next, will be our Cabo time experiences!

  12. SocialJo,

I'm just curious about the nightlife above decks at the outdoor bar areas. On some recent cruises aboard NCL, the pool bar area was shut down by 8:30 or so! That left the only bars open down below deck. Are the outdoor venues open late in the evening aboard the Emerald Princess?

    Thom

    Hi Thom

The Calypso Bar (by the pools on 15) is open till Midnight according to the Patter. Hope you enjoy your cruise!

  13. Hi Jo,

It's me, Tracy, from the Crown SA cruise in January! Have a fabulous cruise (with none of the "issues" we had in January!), will be following your Semi-Live enviously. We don't sail again until Nov '18....on the Royal down to the ABC Islands. That will be our "make up" cruise from SA!

    Cheers,

    Tracy

Hi Tracy!! How the heck are you?? We had a great cruise! No issues once we got sailing, other than it went by too quickly! ;p

Mike and I are doing a TA in April 2018 on the Regal! And he's insisting (twisting my arm...) that I do a couple more small cruises to get me to Elite by the time we do his retirement cruise the following spring, the 28 day hawaii, tahiti, etc! It's hard work to be the one to make Elite....but if I must...;p:D:')

  14. Good Morning all!! Sorry for such a delay in reporting back to you! Embarkation was a breeze....but sailaway was delayed a couple of hours because the internet was down. IT guys came on board and had us underway just before 6pm.

We've had smooth seas, wonderful sea day yesterday. Last night we had our formal night, surprised many that it was so early in the cruise! We are doing late trad dining. I really wanted her to have the old-school cruise experience. We ate some lunch from HC yesterday, took it out back by the Retreat Pool. When we were done, she said, "where do we put our dishes?" Oh no, I said, we don't do anything but walk away, I pointed out a server, and said, look, she's waiting to clean up after us! :)

Today we get to Cabo mid-day. We are going on the ship excursion to ride horses on the beach. Really looking forward to that! My pal has been thoroughly enjoying her Virgin Cruise, as she's calling it!

More sooner or later!! Thanks for following along!!

  15. Good Morning CC!!

Heading out today on the Emerald for the Cabo San Lucas Getaway! It's my 10th Princess cruise. Usually I'm cruising with DH, this time I'm cruising with a newbie! My pal, is celebrating her birthday, and begged her DH to take her on a cruise (she's had to listen to my cruise tales for 20 years!), finally he exclaimed, "can't you get one of your girls to go with you??" SCORE! Tough duty, but I volunteered for the action... brave of me, huh?? ;p

I'm referring to this as Semi-LIVE, because it won't be my priority, relaxing is the first order of business! I'll be glad to answer questions as I can, I'll save the Patters for reference later.

We are from Southern California, close to the port. We'll be staying in Caribe 102. We'll be heading to the port arriving just before 11, just because we can sit still any longer! And DH is really tired of listening to me! Are we there yet??????? IT'S FINALLY CRUISE DAY!!! More from on board!
