  1. Hi,

Love the idea of the ice and washcloth. How did you carry it so it would not leak?We are going a Panama Canal cruise as well.Thank you!

    Hi Libertarian,

I used a brand new Freezer style zip lock bag, then just securely zipped it and rolled it down, placing it near the bottom of the backpack. The have a double zipper now and it worked great! Have a great time!!

    Happy Sailing!

  2. Appreciate your postings and all of this great background. Very interesting and well-done with your summaries!! Look forward to seeing it "up close and personal" during our early March sailing through the canal. We will be on the Island Princess, sailing Fort Lauderdale to San Francisco. Departing Feb. 28.

Glad it was helpful! I know you'll have a great time!

    Happy Sailing!

  3. Just to clarify, not all of the decks are free. Correct? You still have to pay to get to the Sanctuary area and it is even more expensive on Canal day. Right?

Also, do you know if the semi-hidden forward decks are open? I think I read the one has a sign that says no entry, but no one says anything if you go out there?

I would love to get forward pictures without blue glass in the way.

That's true, sanctuary is a paid area, don't know if $ goes up for Canal day, it's sure to be booked first!! Sorry, being "aft" fans, we never ventured to the front to see if its open without the blue glass.

Have a great time & happy sailing!!

  4. Thanks Scoaljo for great reviews and suggestions . Good to read such a postive experience and that you are one of those Half full persons who really enjoys life . We are doing the March 18 cruise this year on the Coral & found your reviews as I was researching info .

    Enjoy your next cruise

    Jim and Pat from WI

That's very sweet of you! We did have to use that attitude to the max recently! What an adventure we had! I've been trying to get caught up and things written down. Soon, I hope!

Happy Sailing to you both SOON!! :D

  5. Husband and I are on Island FLL to San Francisco end of Feb. So enjoyed your review; looking forward to our cruise even more than before. Only regret is that I did not go for rear facing cabin!! I have motion issues and vertigo and husband thinks aft would be a problem; next cruise it will be aft facing!!

    Thanks again.

So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you! We just used the newer 24hr Dramamine - with spectacular results in 80kt winds with 20' swells - less than 2 weeks ago sailing on the Crown around South America, that was even after Cape Horn! :D We knew we'd encounter rough seas there, it's the only way they make them there! :p but that one day was crazy! And I'd do it again! But 1st other places to see!

    Happy Sailing!

  6. Hello TracieLynn!

So excited to see how well your trip has started! We are just home from the Crown & sailing around Cape Horn a few days, I was so behind! :p

What really made me laugh, is that when you were taking ZiCam, it may have been your ears burning! On Jan 18, during lunch, in Valparaiso, Chile, (it was the 17th in the USA) YOU were the subject of conversation at our private disembark tour full of CCers from our roll call! :D CCer SadeBud (also a Tracy) and I were comparing notes on whose reviews & live reports we'd read! Yours were one of our favorites!

Glad I'm all caught up now, cuz its been 2 hours and I gotta go, like really go! :D

Darn it, I almost forgot, The LOVE BOAT reruns are alive & well on the Crown! :D really, bye, for now!

  7. We sleep in a regular King at home, no way are those 2 pushed together the equal! We always laugh about sleeping cozier on the ships, then back home feels like a huge distance between us! Their mattress topper really helps the comfort level!

    Happy Sailing!

  8. Welcome to Cruise Critic, cahorb! If you are looking for a mostly laid back cruise, Princess will be perfect for you. And yes, during school breaks, there will be a great deal more families and younger cruisers!

The food on Princess is wonderful. In the formal dining room (MDR) they serve a wonderful variety each night. I love trying new things there, like a Twice Baked Goat Cheese Souffle (just typing that name made my mouth water!) Beef Wellington, Ox tail, different fish dishes...on the ship, try it, if you like it & want more, they'll bring another! If you don't, it is whisked away and replaced with another delightful choice! No problem! It really makes the dining experience unique!

And to satisfy the cravings many of us have...there is a burger grill & pizza kitchen alongside one of the pools, open about 18 hours or so a day! :p A soft serve ice cream counter waiting to make you a cone, a specialty coffee bar, warm chocolate chip cookies & milk by the pools in the afternoon... are you packing yet??? :p

Entertainment is quite varied! Its really subjective, we enjoy everything from MUTS showing 1st run movies (ones still in the theaters!) to the comedians. Try it all, you've nothing to lose! :D Even the Chef's cooking demonstrations are fun to watch & often hilarious!

If its a good time for you to go, a good price, and you enjoy meeting those in other age groups, you'll have a great trip. You may even hear a few ideas for future trips! We're crossing one off our Bucket List in 52 days! Sailing around Cape Horn! :D

    Happy Sailing!

  9. We are also fans of aft balconies, especially on the Royal class ships. Our reason is our love to dine (lunch - dinner) on our balcony... the balconies on the Royal class ships are generally very small; however, the aft balconies are large... we always try to book an owner's suite which has a wrap around balcony (huge) with enough room we had a dinner party for eight one evening (steward brought another table and more chairs) and we still had plenty of room! It's extremely tranquil listening to the wake and enjoying a wonderful meal.

This will be a first for an aft balcony for me, but DH & I booked ourselves a Vista Suite (aft suite) for Hawaii in May '18. Can't wait to have 9 sea days on that balcony!! :D

  10. Have fun Tracie-Lynn! Thanks for posting!

I've been checking your blog this week, hoping to see good news about your cruising plans... :(

Last year, your blog entertained me regularly while counting down for our Spring '16 PC cruise! I was looking forward to it during this year's countdown, such a shame for you both.

Thanks TracieLynn for taking up the slack for a week! :p Didn't mean to detract...just wanted PescadoAmarillo to know they were missed! :D

Happy Sailing and back to our originally scheduled LIVE! :D

  11. I think the wake is mesmerizing. It's not quiet, while the ship is sailing, but I find it peaceful anyway. Aft is where I always try to book our cabin.

Hope you have a wonderful time (and your husband is wonderful)!

Mesmerizing is the perfect description! And, yes, he is a wonderful guy, although even he would tell you it took a few years of hard training! :p

  12. I just took a trip with my teenage granddaughter and it was wonderful.

I'm sure you both will have a wonderful time.

Now, can you send your personal upgrade fairy my way? :D

She and I did a 2000 road trip last summer when I taught her to drive, that's when I started thinking about this cruise! She is a wonderful travel buddy! We are a couple of lucky ladies!
