Well all my bags are packed and although the taxi's not yet blowing his horn we are off to Gatwick bright and early tomorrow morning to fly to Britannia on Friday.

Now that the health questionnaire matter is out of the way I am thinking of booking the Iona cruise in March that I've been tracking for some time.  Not having booked onboard for some time would there be benefits in me doing this? I have a FCC of around £1,000 left in my account and the select single occupancy balcony aft at the moment is coming in around £1400 with £60 OBC.  I assume I would pay the remaining £400 onboard via my credit card - assumedly it wouldn't interfere with my onboard account and would be a separate transaction?  I'm not really sure if booking onboard has any major benefits for a trip like this just in case of any extra discounts or OBC offers sprout in the New Year.  I cannot recall if there are ever offers after Christmas either!

The other question is are the very low deposits still offered onboard? I've deliberately not booked Christmas Caribbean for 2024 as there was a rumour Queen Victoria may be going to the Caribbean in 2024 winter.  However my OH is badgering me to put a deposit on Britannia or Arvia just in case it isn't going to happen or be around Christmas.  Currently I'm looking at a deposit of about £400 for what we would book, not a great deal in the scheme of things but still not something I'd really want to throw away if QV does come up as an option.  I seem to recall September time someone saying there was a £50 deposit option if booked onboard or did I imagine it?

Any help or opinions greatly received.

We were on Azura last month when the new ones went on sale the price we got from our TA beat the onboard offer even with the sweeteners on there.

I don’t think anybody is trying to get this thread closed down, and in my memory, very few threads actually do get closed down. Your reference to ‘yet another thread shut down’ is wide of the mark in my opinion and the accusation that people try to get them shut down bemuses me. Posts get deleted for various reasons, but rarely threads and in my view, that is how it should stay.

And even less posts and thread’s would be deleted if posters didn’t post crap I’m sure I’m not the only one on here who gets sick of scrolling through numerous posts of drivel to find out what is actually the topic of conversation just saying🤷‍♂️

I have been browsing a well known SM site and have seen something that people may find interesting.

I’m in two minds whether  to post now, in case somebody starts calling me a clown.

    However, I will risk it.

somebody who says they were a table mate of the offloaded Covid passengers says they are in isolation on the ship until the end of the cruise.

Make of it what you will

Why would anyone call you a clown no mention of what drinks you were served on an Iona delayed flight thanks for the relevant information

2 out of 5 members of our party may have been in contact with somebody that has covid and we’re due to travel next week (awaiting test results). What does this mean for our cruise does anyone know? If the test is positive would we be eligible for FCC or just lose our money? Would the 3 others still have to go even though the 2 that has been in contact live with them? Any help appreciated!

Don’t ask on here ask P&O direct all you get is peoples opinions here which are usually well you can imagine the experts on here🤷‍♂️

Just as a contrast, Saga have had an azipod probkem this week,  resulting in the current cruise loosing 3 days (although the passengers remained on board).

Passengers have already been told that they will automatically receive a pro rata refund for the lost days.

Saga was a technical problem Iona is weather related hardly P&Os fault can’t really compare issues

Sorry, I'm only telling you what they tell me.  They could be giving me total rubbish for all I know, but I doubt it as they are assisting me with my own personal bookings and noting them subject to the position with offloading.  I doubt they'd offer to do that if there wasn't something very close.  I am speaking to my contact regularly and she tells me she's frustrated too.

Not blaming you for it just commenting on it. Myself along with everyone else appreciate what you’re doing keep it up! 👍

Megabear is the expert on this,  but in simple terms the cruise companies did not realise that

    1. Passengers who did not have Covid could be made by local port authorities to disembark and quarantine.

    2. The insurance companies would not pay out in those circumstances.

The entire focus  was on insuring those who contracted Covid. The thought that non Covid cruisers would not be covered was not considered,  either by the cruise lines, or, I would suggest,  most cruisers.

Whilst I do not wish to be an advocate for the likes of  P&O,  I do believe that this is a case of an initial lack of awareness, rather than financial mendacity.

However,  I agree that by now some sort of resolution should have been reached.

They seem to be taking a long time to make some kind of statement on this issue I hope they don’t think people are going to forget about it if they drag their heels

Just looked at a cruise for 40 nights on Aurora for £2581 per person - almost can't believe how cheap it is, not that I would want to do it.

It’s just gone back on sale I think a lot chose not to pay the balance with the uncertainty hanging over what happens if they throw you of the ship especially in the Caribbean

When you get to Baltic and Ligurian tier you have to cruise 80 nights within 3 years of your departure to maintain those levels. I would imagine that P&O have put something in place during covid to allow you to maintain those levels without cruising? as MSC have.

It’s 80-200 for Baltic, 201+ for Ligurian in 3 years. I think they have frozen everyone’s status for 3 years.

How long is it currently taking for P & O to respond to emails?  I contacted them a week ago with a list of  7 question (some general, others Covid related) using the Contact Us button on their web site.  I have yet to receive even an acknowledgement  email.

I also contacted Azamara on the same day with a problem and they responded with a personal email within hours, and had the problem sorted within three days.

It’s quicker on FB messenger or Twitter DM they only take about 5 days to reply on them 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️

The problem is I don't want to upset them before giving them a chance to reply.  I've no desire to publicly destroy them as that is self defeating in that we need them to thrive because they have our money.  Really hoping for a proper dialogue to open for at least a couple of us.  Although the latest contacts received the 28 day reply I doubt they'll leave it that long before giving us their views/opinions/answers as they will be well aware that those on Faceb etc will be spreading the word.

I've chased today and will do so again next week.  I'm hoping someone who is onboard Iona now might let Swanseasailor have an inside view. Hopefully no one gets unwell until its sorted, especially with Britannia on her T/A journey down to Barbados.

I did speak to Staysure again and still told it's a very grey area.  The guy warned me quarantine in Barbados is very, very expensive and I told him I wasn't planning on using it any time soon!

Got this from our bank today who use Allianz,

My understanding is that, provided that they travel to England, 7 days before embarkation, non mainland residents can join the ship. However, I emphasise that this info did not originate from the Saga authorities.

Thanks for that, we weren’t given that option not that we’d have done it anyway more chance of catching it in a hotel over that period of time than 3 hours on a ferry.

All the passengers were double tested for COVID at Tilbury. We also filled in a health, and recent travel,  questionnaire. Under current Covid-19 regulations, Pax from Eire and the Channel Islands need to check that they meet the requirements.

We were impressed with our normal balcony cabin. It is spotless and more spacious than many of those of equivalent grade on mainstream ships. There were face masks issued and the crew wear them all the time.  Pax need to wear masks unless seated with a drink or eating. The bathroom  amenities are from Prija in 135 ml bottles not sachets or other small containers. Very handy and reasonable quality. The lighting in the cabin is good and a large screen TV is mounted on the wall. The information on the screen includes the daily programme and other ships info including a webcam from the bridge. Unfortunately, so far, the daily  weather info is not available. There is a selection of movies available and some Freeview tv channels. No SKY channels, although there is a placeholder for Sky News.

So far, we have called in to two ports in Brittany and today we are alongside about 10 miles from Bordeaux. The reports from the tours are very mixed. Not being able to wander off alone in the ports is a major disadvantage.
The food has been excellent. I am aware that this is very subjective, but there is so much choice of well prepared dishes with good ingredients that only the very picky eaters would not be pleased. Allergies are well catered for. In the The Grill and the outside  burger/fish and chips outlet, all the food is served to you - no self service. The included wine is drinkable and, probably, best described as table wine. Again, it is a personal view, but the white is Ok, the rose is better, but the red Spanish is a bit iffy. The included beers are from the Whitstable brewery . There is a choice of Pale Ale and lager. Neither are to my taste, and they will not suit most beer drinkers. The included spirits are from the lower shelf but are passable especially with mixers. Teas and coffees are served in all the lounges and they go down well. In summary, the food is far better than expected, but wine lovers might have to dip into their wallets. More next time……. D

There shouldn’t be any pax from Eire or the Channel Islands we were told mainland residents only till the new year at least, wouldn’t let us book from 🇮🇲

07 Oct     Departing from Liverpool, England hotels
    08 Oct     Belfast, Northern Ireland
    11 Oct     Gibraltar, UK
    12 Oct     Cadiz, Spain, Sevilla
    13 Oct     Portimao, Portugal
    14 Oct     Lisbon, Portugal
    15 Oct     Porto-Leixoes, Oporto, Portugal
18 Oct     Arriving in Liverpool, England

If our friend on the bluebird site spent two days quarantined on the ship before Funchal docking yesterday we seem to have his bubble testing positive very soon after embarkation and the ship detouring quite a lot. I'm not an expert on trip planning but this does seem very weird. Anyone with more expertise able to make any suggestions on what  may have caused this?

He also states in one post he’s on day 4 isolating then in a later post it’s day 2 I get the feeling somethings not quite right here not an expert opinion only mine😉

Regardless of the hotel, he seems to have been quarantined on the ship for a couple of days before Madeira. There's a comment about black water, a picture of something he says fell from the air con, and also a half hour exercise on deck. That being the case with 10 days in his hotel it's going to be considerably longer before he gets home.  There's no mention of any testing procedures either in either quarantine. Assumedly he is not at this point unwell.

Mind you he did say the ship/cruise was lovely before it all went up the swanee....

He said he was going on a Med cruise so how are they in Madeira🤷‍♂️

It would certainly be very helpful to know what answers you receive from the various insurance companies.

In a previous post you mentioned that the insurance you have though your bank account is changing in November so I guess that you, like us are with Lloyds.  I would certainly be interested to know what Allianz  have to say about Covid and cruising in general as I can find no specific mention of cruising anywhere in the details we received from the bank.
