  1. Hi Steve, we came off the Ventura last week and were allocated Freedom dining. You will have a card in your cabin telling you which of the 2 freedom dining restaurants you are allocated to. It will be either Saffron or Cinnamon. Both are waiter service. After 3 days you are able to use either.

As well as your allocated waiter restaurant you are able to use the buffet. The pay for restaurants you have to book .

  2. We have just come back from Barbados on Sunday after being on the Ventura. We went to the Boatyard which was only about a ten minute drive by taxi. The sand and sea were lovely. There was a boat coming up to the beach to take people out to the turtles. The bar there also had a sign up saying free visits to the turtles, not sure how that worked though as we didn't do it.

  3. Cruisin Linda, I have been on the Celebration and Spirit. This April we spent 2 weeks on the Ventura in a balcony cabin. Benefits of the Thomson ships are the crew, who we found to be so much more friendlier, including cabin staff, waiters and bar staff.

We preferred the Ventura as a whole though, there was more space to spread out on the decks and we loved the Headliners shows.

Looking to book the Caribbean in Jan/Feb and will be booking either the Azura or Ventura. So much cheaper for a balcony than Thomson.

  4. I sailed on the Celebration last year and had a great time. Thought the entertainment and food were very good. This April we went for 2 weeks on the Ventura and equally enjoyed it. The food was probably better. Really enjoyed the Headliners shows on the Ventura and thought they were of a very high standard.

We had a balcony room on the Ventura and if sailing to the Caribbean would sail on the Ventura rather than a Thomson ship.

Crew and bar staff/waiters definitely friendlier on Celebration/spirit though. More aloof on Ventura.

  5. I am appalled by the photo of the man in the mankini on the P&O facebook page, this kind of behaviour is more suited to Thomas Cook or Ocean Village cruises and should NEVER be seen on a P&O ship. I hope they ban him for life, I'm so angry.

This has to be a wind-up!

  6. If we are talking about the guy from Hampshire then my wife has been following his postings and has been most amused by them.

Seems like he has got quite a good sense of humour and I look forward to being on the same cruise as him sometime.

I quite agree. Some people take things too seriously. I have looked forward to seeing his photos and reading about his time on the ship.

  7. Sailed on the Ventura in April/May for 2 weeks and thought the ship was great but the bar staff and waiters let it down. After being on the Thomson Celebration last year the difference was very noticeable.

Just back off a short cruise on the Thomson Spirit and all staff were brilliant and the waiters and bar staff so much better than on the Ventura.

The ships are very dated compared to P & O but the staff more than make up for this. Move the staff from Thomson to P & O and things would be perfect!

Have to say though that the theatre shows so much better on the Ventura than the Spirit.
