  1. Everything I read just makes it more exciting!!

We sail Aug 25th out of Piraeus.

    Rhodes

    Bodrum, Turkey

    Dalyan River Turkey

    Santorini

    Hydra

    Athens

Curious if anyone did any of the Turkey trips. (We'd like to see the tombs)

Also wondering how easy it was to take the tram from Athens to the Port. We will have one small suitcase each.

Already enjoying the trip through planning!

We did the Dalyan River/Caunos shore excursion back in 2015 and would recommend it.

  2. thanks!! We are really excited!

    Re Bodrum:

I had read that the museum and the castle were under renovation?!

We were really looking forward to visiting both, so fingers crossed its open in Aug!

I cannot answer that - our experience was back in 2015. The Museum and castle were open for us. A couple of exhibits were closed as were a few areas of the castle but I’d say that at least 90% of everything was open.

  3. Sad to see that building empty

Not me - I’m glad that M’ville is down on a cruise ship pier. That’s where it belongs. It’s much nicer at Rolandi’s now - you can sit and have a conversation without having to scream at each other over the cacaphony of tired Buffett noise.

  4. Because common sense isn't common anymore;p

    You'll get mesmerized

    By alibis

    And limbo dance in pairs

    Please lock that door

    It don't make much sense

    That common sense

    Don't make no sense

    No more

  5. Ah ha. I got it now. Yes, there is a new Margaritaville on RCI's pier, but the main one is still open just a little ways down the road.

The Margaritaville in San Miguel - the one by Rolandi’s, is permanently closed.

  6. No experience transferring from ATH to Piraeus. We arrived in Athens three days prior to boarding the ship for sightseeing and body clock adjustment. We just taxied from the a/p to our hotel and then taxied to the port on the day of departure. I think you will enjoy this itinerary - we especially liked Hydra.

Also, we enjoyed the Museum of Underwater Archeology in Bodrum.

  7. Same here for us, we are terrified of not being "dressed" properly. But then I thought better of it. We paid to be on the ship just like you did, and I will not allow you to ruin my vacation by your pettiness of if we are dressed to suit you. Live and let live, the way someone else is dressed is not my concern. Enjoy your vacation and don't allow someone else to ruin it for you!

Just how hard is it to wear a suit to dinner when that is what is expected of you?

  8. Holland America is headquartered in Seattle - I guess there aren’t a lot of tech savvy people located in that area.

I reckon that’s why HAL has such a problem with their website.

I’m sure if HAL was located in a more technologically friendly area, then they would be more successful in their internet endeavors.

After all, Holland America is very interested and concerned about the interests and concerns of all the company’s customers. . . right?

  9. Surcré Sale

    Calle 2 Norte between 5th & 10th Aves

This place opened in November 2017 and is an absolute jewel. Genuine French pastry chef. Croissant, tarts - you name it along with espressos, cappuccinos, and the like.

Zermatt was my go to prior discovering Sucre Sale and I like it as well - they aren't too far from each other so you could try them both!

  10. I am glad you enjoyed your trips to Cozumel. To say that something doesn't exist because you haven't seen it or are likely to see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Why would people pay protection money to the gangs if it not for the threat of violence?

I think our difference is only about the level of an activity and not its existence.

I am not going to sit here and argue with you endlessly - believe what you want, say what you want.

We have been going to Coz on extended land vacations - at different times of the year - for over ten years and have never heard of or witnessed any drug related violence or violence of any sort for that matter. We are divers and know other divers that live on the island and they aren't aware of any of this. I'm not even sure if there have been any homocides for that matter.

    So, for me, that's it - that's what I've heard, that's what I've seen, that's what I know.

. . . and that is not from some newspaper article.

    Ciao

  11. They are operating in Cozumel whether you choose to believe it or not. Here is a story which talks about the a fight between cartels in Quitan Roo.

    http://encambiodiario.com/2017/11/pelea-de-carteles-en-quintana-roo-deja-287-muertos/

One of the statements refers to the leader of the Cancun Cartel being arrested for selling drugs and shaking down business for protection money in Cozumel.

"“Doña Lety” fue detenida el pasado 9 de agosto en el estado de Puebla imputada por narcomenudeo, cobro de derecho de piso y el ataque a antros en Cancún, Alfredo V. Bonfil, Tulum, Xel-Ha, Isla Mujeres y Cozumel."

Tourists are unlikely to experience anything related to these operations, but to say it doesn't exist is just not correct.

I was on Cozumel and had been there for almost two weeks when that article was printed - I was also there for over two weeks after it's publication. There is no drug cartel violence on Cozumel.

That would be known by everyone on the island - especially the diver community there.

Quintana Roo is a large state of Mexico - drug violence has been known to occur in Cancun for years, but it has been to a lesser degree than those areas on the west coast of Mexico.

The brush you use is too broad and fearmongering does no one any good.
