  1. Hello,

My husband and I have cut back on our drinking substantially (Which is good!), and now only enjoy a couple of drinks a week. This means that our chances of downing a bunch of drinks and then stumbling for late-night pizza are rather low. ;-)

We are familiar with the boozy late-night scenes--but we want to know the best non-boozy late night activities! What do you like to do past the show-times that are fun and not alcohol-fueled?

So far I have the casino and the late night parades. How late are the hot tubs open on deck? (I can't remember.)

    Thanks guys!

    DG

  2. We did the Mystery Dinner about three years ago--and it's my most favorite pay-for activity on the ship! GO! It's a total blast! We are booked to do it again in February.

I don't remember them doing assigned seating. The food was wonderful and there was so much wine. The actors were a hoot and a half.

    I love the Mystery Dinner!

  3. We did our Honeymoon on Brilliance in 2012. We did get a bottle of something tasty from the cruise director (I think bubbly), but then we just got special shout outs for the entire cruise. We may have even gotten a complimentary night at Chops or something...I can't remember.

We also did the Honeymoon registry that they promote, and it was very straightforward. We used that to pay for special extras on the trip!

    Many congrats,

    DG

  4. Thank you all very much for your responses. I have been on the Gifts & Gear site, but wanted to hear from people that actually have done them before -

you have all helped a lot in making a decision!! :)

We are driving to port, so the bathrobes will fit nicely in our car trunk...:p

That's perfect then! You can just wear them off the ship! LOL!!!!!! :D

We're on Navigator the cruise after your's...we're looking forward to it. Have a very happy Anniversary and Valentine's Day! <3

    XO,

    DG

  5. If you go the first day of the cruise, they usually have a package at the spa. (Like around $100 pp for the entire cruise.) Otherwise, if you don't buy the first day you'll need to pay for use. I've used the one on Brilliance, and it is nice.

This is one of my husband's and my most favorite cruise things to do. It is so relaxing and nice--totally worth the money. I'm bummed our next trip doesn't have a thermal suite!

    XO,

    DG

  6. The officer's reception (open to all), the C&A (which your friend can join you at if you are C&A), and I think there is a Plat and above reception as well are put on by the ship. I believe on 7 day+ sailings they are considered separate events. (Can someone that's cruised more recently verify this?)

Of course, the shop tastings and the art auctions!

    Weeee!

  7. I actually really enjoy the Romance Packages. We had one for our Honeymoon, and I asked for one for our next sailing (for Christmas!). The one we always ask for is the Classic (I think) and is around $100. It comes with bubbly in the room, little snackies before formal dinner, dessert after formal dinner, and breakfast in bed the next morning (an upgraded one--which is actually kind of nice!). You also get a picture frame and you get to pick your picture (we chose one from a formal night).

You can order them through Gifts & Gear.

Honestly, it's really nice and worth the dough. It's just something a little fun and special!

    XO,

    DG

  8. What a bummer! I was considering doing this, as I don't feel the need to spend $100 a day (with two people), and feel that pressure to "drink" enough to break even.

How much is a mid-range bottle of wine?

I was discussing this with my husband...with the different receptions (welcome aboard, returning, premium member), and with bringing two bottles of wine on board...I think maybe just buying a couple of bottles in the dining room may be the way to go.

  9. Hi guys,

I'm interested in doing a non-RC excursion for the stingrays in Grand Cayman (something a bit more private and with additional activities). There are lots of good suggestions on these forums...thanks guys!

In my past experience, I've done RC excursions in tender ports. How tough is it to get off the boat if you are waiting for a tender, and remind me of the time frame to catch the tender back!

    Thanks guys,

    DG

  10. I'm in a similar situation. Flying from IL the same day going down to Galveston in February. If I purchase through Choice Air, can I just fly the day before and stay at a hotel close to Houston airport, then join the shuttle down to Galveston? The transfers (or even if I rent a car and then drive) down to Galveston are expensive, so purchasing Choice Air eliminates that cost.

  11. Good morning!

I booked Navigator of the Seas, but one of the things my husband and I really enjoy is the Thermal Suite/Persian Garden. Is this amenity available on the ship? The booking agent wasn't sure if there was--if there is not then I need to switch ships!

Also, my most favorite event on the ship is Mystery Dinner, but it's not in the pre-book section. Does Royal still offer Mystery Dinners?

    Thanks!
