Personally, a cruise is not the vacation I'd be taking until I got the food issue worked out. FODMAP is a diet used to eliminate common foods allergens and irritants to help people with digestive issues figure out which food(s) the problem stems from. It's not a "forever" diet, so I'd either wait until the cruise is over to work on the FODMAP, or I'd wait to take the cruise until I figured out which foods are the issue. I've been given that FODMAP diet before and it's so extremely restrictive that there's just no way to eat out everyday on a cruise and follow it.

She has actually been through the diet for many years and she knows which items for the most part set her off so it's not that she is strictly "following" it but more of she knows which of those to avoid.

We are just trying to figure out which would be easiest to use to avoid her triggers.

  2. June 2024 Icon of the Seas - I and my sister will be going together and she has an unusual diet for medical reasons, she follows FODMAP , which basically means that she has a list of foods, spices, etc that she has to avoid (think things like onion, garlic, wheat, peppers, some fruits and some veggies) so I know we need to fill out the diet request form but what is going to be the best option for us as far as meals, going to the MDR or Windjammer/and other quick options? Will the MDR make specialized meat and veggies for her or at the very least let us know what is in stuff? Because if she does eat the wrong things our next day will be cancelled and she will be stuck in the cabin for 12-18hrs.

  3. Being 50 my self....for my personal enjoyment I would like the first two options and not hit Coco Cay. But that is somewhat due to the fact that I enjoy the history portion of stopping at ports more than I do the setting on a beach tanning. It's been many years since I was at Coco Cay and it's way more amusement park like now than it was back then. Also think about the ships - bigger is going to have more things going on to keep your days filled.

A good way to help choose is to YouTube those particular cruises and get a feel for what all is at those locations. I spend WAY TO MUCH time on YouTube "researching" LOL.

On my last cruise on Oasis I heard Alpha, Alpha, Alpha as well. The worst is hearing Oscar, Oscar, Oscar because the chances are slim to none the person will survive if they can even find them. Sorry your cruise was cut short. I've always wondered myself when the Coast Guard is supposed to intervene.

After reading I wondered what other codes ships might have that we don't hear everyday and here is a list of what I found....for what it's worth.

    Cruise Ships

    • 30-30 – maintenance needed to clean up a mess
    • Alpha (specifically Alpha, Alpha, Alpha on Princess and Royal Caribbean ships) – medical emergency
    • Alpha Team, Alpha Team, Alpha Team – fire emergency on a Carnival Cruise Line ship
    • Bravo or Bravo, Bravo, Bravo – fire
    • Charlie – bomb threat
    • Charlie, Charlie, Charlie – security threat on Royal Caribbean ships
    • Code Blue – medical emergency
    • Code Red – outbreak of illness
    • Delta – damage to the ship on Norwegian Cruise Line
    • Delta, Delta, Delta – possible bio-hazard
    • Echo – the ship is starting to drift
    • Echo, Echo, Echo – possible collision with another ship or the shore on Royal Caribbean ships. On other ships it can mean danger of high winds while at port.
    • Kilo (specifically Kilo, Kilo, Kilo on Royal Caribbean ships) – all personnel to report to their emergency posts
    • Omega or Oscar or Bravo, Bravo or Mr. Mob – man overboard (we heard that on a Disney Cruise once. That was fun.)
    • Operation Bright Star (Code Mike on Oceania Cruises) – medical emergency, urgent assistance required
    • Operation Rising Star – someone died on board
    • Oscar, Oscar, Oscar – man overboard on Royal Caribbean ships
    • Mr. Skylight, or Alpha, Alpha, Alpha – minor emergency
    • Papa – environmental emergency (i.e., oil spill) on Norwegian Cruise Line
    • Priority 2 – leak
    • Purell, Purell, Purell or PVI (public vomiting incident) – cleanup (vomit) on Celebrity ships
    • Red Party – fire at sea
    • Red Parties, Red Parties, Red Parties – fire or possible fire on Disney Cruise Lines ships
    • Sierra – call for a stretcher
    • Star Code, Star Code, Star Code – medical emergency on Celebrity ships
    • Zulu, Zulu, Zulu – a fight aboard the ship

  5. In the past I monitored cruise prices through an online website that I entered the cruise line, the date, and all other specifics and it took me to a page where that cruise was listed along with every category room and the price. I can't remember the name of the site. I liked it because I could see the prices anytime, I could see the price trends, and I could follow all categories so if something was on sale I could call my TA and get a reduction or change rooms. It didn't rely on emails to get you the information. My only problem is that its been 5+ years and I don't remember the name of the website. HELP!!!!

  6. I know RCI helps accommodate special diets in the dining room, but one of our party has to follow a very specific and restrictive diet to not become severely ill. Who would be the most helpful person to get ahold to convey her needs to before we board? We are assuming eating in the dining room is going to be the best option to control any issues. We are planning on using a travel agent but I want her to be able to speak directly to someone from RCI to lessen the chance of her getting sick. Thanks for the help 😊

My niece turned 2 on Oasis. We did the cake at dinner that night - just the free thing they bring out for birthdays. It was halfway through the cruise and she had charmed everyone who worked near our table (mostly by devouring strawberries and passing out in her seat!) so she got a huge crowd singer her happy birthday while her dad helped her blow out her candle.

I don't think you'd be able to save the ice cream in your cabin for long though :classic_wink:

When did you let them know she was having a birthday so that you could get the free cake?  I think we might do that option. He isn't going to care if it's a fancy or basic cake, all he wants is to make a mess eating it, lol. Maybe decorate the table with some basic decoration that we can put in the center then throw away so not to make more work for them.

  8. Our grandson will be turning 2 during our February cruise on Liberty. We will be bringing some basic decorations from home for a party. We would like to have a small party for him in the cabin, I see you can order a cake for 25.oo but wow that seems like a terrible lot for some birthday cake for a toddler. I was thinking maybe getting some cake and icecream from Windjammer and saving it till we are ready for his party? What other options can you think of have you done? Thanks 🙂

  9. I am down 5.8 since June 3rd and total down since I started tracking of 27.6#. The last week has been crazy around here prepping for our Cattleman's Ball, Rounding Up A Cure For Cancer. I worked an EMS shift on Friday and was onsite for backup and attending the event from 3pm to midnight on Saturday.

Congrats Jan, Jenny, and Rose on a loss  and Pacruise and Diana maintaining is great, it is a letdown but holding even is good.

    Wishing all a great weekend!

  10. Hi all!! Down 3.2# since the last time I checked in, but I have been having lots of stress at home because hubby's cancer is spreading again. Trying to eat better too, adding salads, fruits, and fresh fresh fresh.

Getting ready for camping too this month, my sister and her hubby are coming for Memorial Weekend so we are going to be laking it from Fri to Mon. Love my popup. Anyone else got big plans for the holiday?

  11. Sorry, I am super late getting things posted this week has been a crazy week here. At last weigh-in, I had gained a pound but that was not a surprise to me but it's a bummer anyway. But on a whole, I am down 16# since January so I am happy and grateful for that. Spent all yesterday at a farm machinery auction got a nice red face now, lol. Had fun though 😉

Rob so sorry to hear about your mom, hope things are looking better.

Diana & Belle, I love going for walks but I don't have a clue how fast I am walking. I think when you are moving it is good for you. I even think the little things help out, like parking farther away at the store, taking stairs, etc. I will make myself walk up and down our stairs 3 or 4x in a row, at least a couple of times during the day if I am hanging out at home.

  12. Hi everyone super busy here with calving and all that fun stuff. Sure wish our weather would straighten out so I could enjoy the weekends. We had the hurricane winds and rain last weekend and more rain in the forecast this weekend. I am thankful that I live in the area of Nebraska that missed all the severe weather, others have so much damage. Anyway, I am ready for the camping season to be here!!!!!

I have a 3.8# loss for this week!! Happy dance 😅

Super job Jan and Diane for a loss this week.
