Just got it too. I'm a little disappointed. But hey, its still a whole lot better than going to work!!!

I can understand that. However, since I'm traveling with a broken right foot, I'm not sure I would have gone off the ship in Freeport anyway.

Yep - any day on a cruise is better than a day at work!

I called carnival and they told me all my 16 year old daughter needs is a passport card and no other form of ID they even went and asked the big dogs on the phone but I just want to make sure that all she needs is the passport card and not the gov photo ID also..... just freaking out because our cruise leaves Saturday and all we have for her is a passport card

To put this succinctly: Your daughter can certainly cruise with her passport card. In the exceedingly remote chance that she has to fly back from one of your ports of call, she may have a problem.

I wouldn't be concerned if it were my daughter.

BTW - unless you travel out of the country frequently, a passport card makes more sense for someone 16 or under. Passports issued for them are only good for 5 years. Over 16 the passport is good for 10 years.

We are scheduled on the Liberty 4 day on September 23rd. The current itinerary is sea day, Nassau, Freeport.

I'm expecting that Freeport won't be repaired by then.

What do you think the new itinerary will be?

And the answer is: Overnight Nassau, Thursday as a sea day. Which is fine by me - I love sea days!!

  4. Do not try this on your own! A TA specializing in cruises will be so much help and will think of things you never even considered!

I love a brick and mortar TA for this. There is nothing like having someone you can actually sit down and talk to!

    Things I would cut?

    - MDR Dancing for sure. I think the whole practice is weirdly forced and awkward.

    - Paper Straws, I get they don't want to use plastic, but many times all I need is a stirstick, and you know what's good for that? Raw pasta. Works great, cheap, and biodegradable.

    - Stopping in the Bahamas unless it's a private island. If I never have to go to Nassu or Freeport again? I'm happy. Those are pointless stops for me.

    - Production shows. I think the quality on Carnival is so lacking compared to the other lines I've been on. Either commit to getting better performers and shows, or just get rid of it.

How will eliminating the Nassau as a port save Carnival money? The passengers pay the port fees, it's  close by and cheap to get to. Having a port nearby for the short cruises is a good idea.

I'm not really sure having a piece of soggy pasta in a drink will go over really well.

OP,  you may go to Half Moon Cay, Princess Cays or as someone else mentioned, Key West.

Carnival returns to Nassau, Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays with 41 calls for the rest of September and the Bahamian people equally await our guests. This week Carnival Pride and Carnival Liberty will also make relief stops to Freeport. Thanks to all who have joined us to support our friends in the Bahamas with donations. Our work there is not done. And as our ships and our guests return to Bahamian ports of call, our visits will make sure that the economy moves forward and jobs will be supported. https://*****/2m6s5dP

Thanks so much for this update!

  7. Why is it when someone asks a question and are told it's against the law, there are a whole string of ya but!'s? This is where we get the reputation of "ugly Americans". You are traveling to another country and are therefore subject to their laws. It doesn't matter what you think - it is what it is. If you don't agree with the rules, don't go there. People seem to spend way more time trying to figure out how to circumvent the rules than it would take to just go along with them.

In his defense of fountain systems, jcearth used the argument that canned soda takes up way too much space. Well, fountain systems require hoses to be ran, CO2 canisters, & containers of syrup. Those last two take up a lot of space, especially if they were going to localize it behind each bar. If not, they'd have to run hoses from a storage area. That's not very practical or efficient and, in some cases, not even feasible. Then there's all the spare CO2 and syrup they'd have to store. They wouldn't gain any space over cans and would probably even lose space.

This isn't true. I run a convenience store and can tell you that my soda bibs and CO2 tanks take up a LOT less room than regular cans of soda. The systems take up very little room and are easy to maintain. And don't forget how much less waste this system creates compared to individual cans. The only difference between something on land and a cruise ship is the water.

There should be an option to cancel.  The cruise does not leave from the scheduled port nor travel to one of the scheduled ports.  Carnival needs to step up on this one!

Have you read your cruise contract?

  10. You are far more likely to see foliage  in Halifax and St. John than you are at North Conway. There are great outlet stores in North Conway and NH doesn't have a sales tax. Best case scenario it's 1.5 - 2 hours to North Conway.

Portland's Old Port is a wonderful place to walk around, shop, and eat. Portland is known as a real "foodie" city. Freeport is fun as well. Lots of outlet stores AND the LL Bean Flagship store. There you could outfit an expedition to the arctic or just find some wonderful sweaters.  It has a small fishpond inside and more fun stuff. Freeport also has some great places to eat.

To me Kennebunk is overrated and pretty crowded. Most of us "natives" don't go there during tourist season.

If you go to Acadia National Park while you're in Bar Harbor (a beautiful town, BTW), take some time to walk on the rocks. You'll get dropped off at someplace like Thunder Hole and it will seem pretty crowded. Walk on the rocks either to the left or the right a couple of hundred yards. There will be a lot fewer people and the views are spectacular.

I've lived in Maine my whole life (so far) and love sharing my beautiful state with visitors. If you have any other questions, please let me know!

RCI customer service is a joke.  Does anyone have an email or a phone number for someone higher than a manager at a call center?  Last night I spent over an hour on the phone regarding the switch from mariner to Harmony. I was told because we are still losing a night we would get one nights worth of onboard credit, and our prepaid gratuities refunded back to the credit card for one night.  I also have that in writing from two different people. This morning we got our new reservation and it was not showing any onboard credit.   So I’ve spent two hours on the phone this morning and even though I emailed them where I had it in writing they are refusing to honor it.

You do realize that RCL customer service is dealing with thousands and thousands of people in a very difficult situation? Calling them over and over is not helping. I'm sure they are doing the best they can. Take a deep breath!

as to 1 1/2 hour wait for YTD is tough to believe, I wouldn't wait that long on land or sea

As my dear departed father (who was an Episcopalian Priest!) would say "I wouldn't wait that long for a seat at the Last Supper!"

Please no flamers! He was very devout if a bit irreverent.

  13. There are two groups of dedicated people who are often forgotten in an emergency like this.

    1) All the employees that are at gas stations, grocery stores, convenience stores etc. If these businesses are open it's because someone who probably isn't making much money is working so you can get your supplies, food, and gas. They can't evacuate until they are told they can leave their jobs and they are probably worried sick about their families. Don't blame them because the store is out of water or gas - they have no control over what is in stock and what isn't. Please be patient and kind to them. Say thank you. It really helps.

    2) Utility workers. There are thousands of utility workers who are driving INTO the storm zone so they will be available to get your power on as soon as possible. They are leaving families behind to drive hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to help. After the storm passes and you see them working, bring them iced tea or coffee or a cookie. Thank them for their service. You may be frustrated, but they are doing they best they can on very little sleep.

    Thanks for reading!
