You may want to see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Show near the Tree..Windows on 5th Avenue and St. Patricks Cathedral to name a few....

Great suggestions! I'll add to my list.

All within walking distance of the Moxy, I assume?

The Times Square NYE craziness will be completely wrapped up by mid-morning Jan. 1.

Location of Moxy is convenient - while staying near LGA strikes me as a dismal waste of an opportunity to see whatever part of the city attracts you.

Agree - I would prefer not to stay at LGA (I don't even like flying into LGA 😀). It was just an option to avoid the chaos of Manhattan after NYE. But based on the comments here, I think I'll be good with the Moxy!

    Thanks!!

By the afternoon of January 1 there should be little or no evidence remaining of the New Years Eve festivities so that shouldn't be an issue.

In any event despite its name your hotel isn't located in Times Square. It's on 7th Ave and 36th St (the entrance is on 36th), several blocks south of where the NYE celebration takes place, so there should be even less likelihood of a lingering problem there.

Perfect! I knew the Moxy wasn’t directly in Times Square but wasn’t sure about traffic in the general area. I would prefer to stay there rather than the airport. My wife has never been to NYC and wanted to walk around the area and see a couple of sights - Rockefeller Christmas tree as well 🙂

    Thanks!!

  4. Hi all

Sailing out of NYC Manhattan on January 2, 2025 on the NCL Prima and we have tentatively booked two hotels for the night of January 1 - one in Times Square (Marriott Moxy) and one at LGA (Marriott Aloft). We arrive at LGA around lunch time on January 1.

Will it be reasonable to try and get from LGA to Times Square on the afternoon of Jan 1? Or should we just decide to stay at LGA and go to the port from there on the next day?

    Thanks!

  5. We just got off the NCL Escape and became Platinum members, but we are also wanting to move away from NCL and try Virgin.

The one sticking point I have is the deposit rules. When I look to make a reservation, it requires a significant down payment, which I'm ok with, but if you have to cancel a cruise after 7 days from book, the deposit is non refundable. I'm a little uneasy with paying a deposit $800CDN for a cruise in Feb 2024 that is non refundable.

Am I understanding the rules correctly?

  6. Hi all

I'm trying to book our two specialty dinners for our January cruise and it seems there is a problem.

I was successful in booking one in Le Bistro for the second night of the cruise.. When I try to book the second dinner for the last night, in any restaurant, I get an error that says "There is something already booked or in your cart that conflicts with this activity for guest 1"

There is nothing else booked or in the cart.

    Anyone seen this error before?

    Thanks!

  7. Booked our retirement cruise on the Viva for Jan 2024. Seems like a good deal - we were able to get room 10942 which has the partial circular balcony. I assume it would be like the angled balcony on the Escape that we usually book.

Either way, looking forward to seeing the Viva pictures and videos as people start to post them 🙂

  8. We have a cruise planned for January 2023 and as I understand it, all passengers have to provide proof of a negative COVID test prior to boarding.

Having never purchased travel insurance before (have a great plan with my employer), I am curious about the type of coverage I require, should I unexpectedly test positive prior to boarding the cruise.

    1. Do any of the Canadian credit cards have this coverage? I looked at the T&C of my RBC Avionics Infinite Privilege card, but could not find COVID as a valid reason for trip cancellation.

    2. If I purchase NCL insurance with my final payment, am I correct in understanding that the cost of the cruise is reimbursed if we have a positive test? Would quarantine costs also be covered for hotels, if needed?

This will be our first time cruising where I could be denied boarding for a reason outside of my control.

    Thanks!

  9. Hi all,

Hoping to get back into cruising after the last tow "dry" years 🙂

One question I have is related to the new NCL website - where do you determine the room layout, specifically if the bed or the sofa is by the balcony door? That used to be available in the rom description on the old site, but I can't seem to locate it now.

    Thanks!!

  10. So it appears that NCL has changed their final payment date for all cruises prior to March 31st, 2022.

Now final payment will only be due 60 days prior to sailing which makes a big difference for those of us who had cruises booked and would have to cancel due to this mixed vaccine silliness.

I was cancelling our January 2022 cruise as final payment was due in September. I will probably hold on now and see if there are any changes to the policy after October 31st.

that's because it has never been recommended to mix vaccinations here.  I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would do that.

Because our Health department ok'd it, along with many other countries in the world. I don't think there is any way to spin this in a positive light for NCL. I can go to any of the Orlando theme parks but can't go on a cruise? Seems like a poor decision on NCL's part.

Nonetheless, there are numerous other options. I won't be stuck 🙂

This has been discussed extensively in the r/cruise subreddit and most cruise lines won't take mixed vaccinated patrons

Perhaps - but reading through this thread, it seems like it's a recent change in policy for NCL. Either way, given the large number of people in Canada who are of mixed vaccine status, it does seem like a strange policy, especially that It only seems to apply to US ports.

  13. WOW! To each their own obviously. As much as we enjoy cruising (only ever been on NCL), I cannot fathom ever paying 15k for a week on a cruise ship - any cruise ship. It seems like cruising prices have been shooting up over the last few years. We will be concentrating on land vacations after our Escape cruise next week - starting in Dublin, Ireland in June.

  14. Are you on the Feb 24 sailing? Im on that one. What bar is he working? Gotta meet this guy!!

We are the Feb 24th sailing. I have sent him an email to see if he is still on board, since a couple of posts here indicate he is moving to the Bliss and may be on a well deserved break.

When last we saw him, he was at the Sugarcane Mojito Bar or the 5 O'Clock Somewhere Bar, on the Waterfront.

Really hope he is still there!!

  15. We have spent many cruises with Clarense and keep in touch occasionally. He has an amazing personality and does his absolute best to entertain passengers who frequent his bar. We spent one night, long after the bars had closed, sitting around chatting and he has such an heartwarming story to tell people about his life back in Honduras and his son. We will be seeing him again on Saturday when we board the Escape - he has a drink already waiting for us :)

  16. We usually prepay, however this time we probably won't. When you buy the cruise in Canadian dollars, the exchange rate is locked in. Our is about 35% I think. Since the exchange is so much lower now, I'll just pay in US funds on board. It's not a lot in savings, but it's always better in my pocket that theirs :)

  17. We are in Falmouth as well next month. We were already considering just staying within the secured port area and I would think that this announcement, plus the additional ones from the UK and US, will guarantee that.

I doubt you will hear anything from the cruise line, since this is just a "be careful" recommendation, not a "stay away".

  18. Sorry....I'm just reading this. That surprises me because both times we've used them they were so quick to respond and the communication was excellent thru the entire process.

I decided to give it another try, but this time, rather than using the "Contact Us" section on the website, I used the email addresses listed directly on the site. I did receive a quick reply using that method, so perhaps the email server parsing the contact form is not configured correctly.

I'm looking forward to the tour, given everyone's glowing recommendations!! :D

  19. FWIW - I've tried to contact liberty tours twice in the past couple of weeks and have not received any replies from them. I was trying to book their Blue Hole/River Tubing excursion. They get great reviews, but the lack of communication is troublesome to me. Perhaps they don't have space available, but to not respond is a little unprofessional IMO.
