    OMG !!!

I was convinced after posting that question that you probably meant an EXCURSION cruise, not the ENTIRE cruise !!

Did you ever find out what was their reason for canceling?

Millennium had broken down for a second time in Alaska.  The first time they did a "patch up" (and probably hoped for the best), but when it happened again they decided they'd better get the ship into dry dock (Bahamas) and repair it properly.  In that case they had no choice but to cancel a couple of cruises, but they did have a choice about telling all their passengers.

I previously wrote that they came up with basic compensation.  That was in the form of a voucher to be used against the cost of another cruise, but we were so hacked off by the way we had been treated, we had no wish to cruise with them again, so it was worthless to us.  Our choice to write it off to 'experience'.

The subsequent cruise on Zaandam was excellent.

The cruise was canceled and they didn't tell you !!?!!

Yep.  They didn't tell our cruise agent either.  Having flown from UK to Vancouver we could have been standing at the quay - no ship.  I was both horrified and angry, but luckily our agent found us another cruise departing a day later on Zaandam, so we were able to use the same flight outbound and that cruise was far better than the original would have been.  We had extra costs because the second cruise was longer and Celebrity eventually came up with a basic compensation payment, but we haven't  cruised with them since (2013).

  3. Thanks for that.  OH and I will be on NS for 2 weeks in the summer.  Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip and your thoughts on the various restaurants.  Was thinking of booking Tamarind for OH's birthday, but I'll hold off and look for further reviews before committing.  Very useful to read your opinion.

I know.  I’ve already warned the roll call.  We got there last year and it was about the same time of year so we’ll just cross our fingers. 😉

It's so annoying when this happens.  We had a cruise from Vancouver cancelled by Celebrity and they didn't tell us either.  I found out quite by accident on a cruise site with just 2 weeks to go.  Thank heavens for the internet.  Have a good trip - wherever you go.

  5. Heads up for anyone who hasn't been informed, Azamara has announced that the Tues 12 June port in Corsica will now be Ajaccio in place of Porto Vecchio. Arrive 8 a.m., sail 10 p.m.

You may have independent excursions planned and I'm guessing that these will need altering. (The two ports are 3 hrs apart by road!!)

  6. Did this same cruise in February and saw only a handful of tux wearers on Gala Evenings. My OH took a smart jacket and wore it on those occasions, but there was no obligation to do so. Some make an effort, most don't.

We actually miss the formality of not so many years ago, but don't get too stressed about it and won't let it spoil our cruises.

You'll see all manner of different interpretations of the dress code, but in the end it's up to you how formal you want to make it. Have a look at the HAL website and it will tell you what you want to know. Enjoy your cruise - we certainly did.

  7. We were on Zaandam in March and definitely no BB King's BB. Having sailed a few months before on Eurodam and seen a BBK band, boy, did we miss them! It's difficult to see where they could be accommodated on much smaller Zaandam so they probably won't be a feature next year either. Too bad - they're fantastic and certainly blow away any complaints that "HAL ships are dead after 10pm".

  8. I think that all cruise ships in florida offered to take florida residents out to sea and bypass the hurricane. They should charge a fee. They could perhaps,

also bring the passengers up North to safety. It would create great publicity and good will.

I don't think you thought this through before posting.

Floridians have had ample time to sort themselves out and evacuate where necessary. The islanders on Barbuda, St Martin etc, many of whom have lost their homes, belongings and livelihoods, would probably not view such action as you propose with much good will.

  9. Sailed Eurodam a year ago and had a great cruise (Adriatic). The ship is one of the few featuring a BB King's Blues Band and IMO they were sensational, although some on here find them too loud.

The Tamarind restaurant was very good and the adjacent Tamarind bar an excellent vantage point when sailing in to/out of Venice. Pinnacle also very good.

We're not dedicated HAL flag wavers (only sailed with them 4 times - so far), but I can't remember anything specific which I didn't like about the ship. Would definitely choose her again if the itinerary was right for us.

  10. The laundry service is quick and efficient - except when they shatter at least one button on several of DH's informal shirts. I think it can only happen during pressing/ironing and on one occasion meant that I had to replace all the buttons of a shirt when we got home because I couldn't find enough spares which were similar to the originals. :(

  11. I agree. The All Stars that played in the BB King on the N. Amsterdam during our Panama Cruise in Sept. were one of the best bands we've ever experience on any of our cruises, on any cruise line we've been on. Fantastic entertainment.

Completely agree. We saw them on Eurodam June 2016 and thought they were sensational. Whoever decided to add them to a few of HAL's ships was inspired. They are loud, but as has been pointed out elsewhere they are crammed into a small venue. We knew they wouldn't be on our recent cruise (Zaandam) and we really missed them.

  12. Another vote for Iguassu from me. It is jaw-droppingly stunning and the most magnificent sight I have ever seen. Don't miss this opportunity.

Eleanor Roosevelt was taken there on an official visit and commented "Poor Niagara!" That says it all.

  13. Hi Lucia

Lucky you. The sail in at Kotor is not to be missed and the town is lovely - quite medieval. If you're fit, you could walk the 1500 steps up to the fort which overlooks the town and would give spectacular views.

Getting to Budva from there without going on an organised trip could be a problem. You may have to hire a taxi (possibly 60+ euros an hour) and it could take a couple of hours travelling. Car hire is not recommended for visitors due to the road conditions.

Hope this helps. Whatever you decide, I hope you have a great time.

    Lily
