Looking at cabins right now.  The Apex S3s are about $1500 less than the same cabin this past summer so now at least, somewhat reasonable. What's the current thinking on which one to book?

    Thanks!

I was doing some research on these and finally booked one on Deck 9 for January 2021.  It looked to me like anything below Deck 11 would be good.  Deck 10 seemed to book out quickly.  I googled some images and noticed that Deck 11 and 12 cabins had minor obstructions due to the spiky things on the bottom of the Magic Carpet.  I didn't want to stare at that all the time when it's parked on deck 14.  Although, the S3s on Deck 12 are on the same deck as Luminae.

There are 4 cabins per deck with the two end ones with windows looking aft or forward depending on the location. and it appears that people on their balconies can see into your balcony through the little window.  Seems like it anyway.  Not sure if that bothers me but I liked the idea of being able to look aft or forward depending on which cabin I chose.  Here's hoping pictures are deceiving.

I'm looking forward to being in a suite on Apex.  And the price was definitely in my budget.....NRD though.  Refundable however was not in my budget.

There are some reviews and some videos and lots of images of S3s on EDGE so happy researching.

The two inside S3's on each deck have a different view than the two outside S3's. Also, those on 11-12 are under the Magic Carpet when it is docked on 14 so that spikes on the bottom of the Magic Carpet come down into your view. I have seen a deck 11 inside S3 and an outside deck 12 S3 and found the views quite good, though the spikes can be distracting (I might get used to them). The deck 6 S3's would have part of the top of the Magic Carpet obstruct their views when it is on deck 5 (and probably some noise).

We haven't had any reviews of the deck 6-7 S3's posted on the cabin review sticky, but have had 3 reviews of S3's on 11-12, which have the spikes when the MC is on 14 - 2 of those people said they would book a different stateroom and 1 person loved it and would rebook.

I would book an S3, if there were a nice savings over the S2's/S1's.  I personally would book deck 8-10 S3's and would lean toward an outside one because of the window in the side of the balcony giving you more of a view, but the insides on those decks would be fine for us too  (just my opinion 🙂).

Oh and the movement of the MC is fairly quick - maybe 5-7 minutes, with a mechanical noise while moving (I watched it from a cabin close to the MC).

Are these pictures from Deck 11 S3 or Deck 12 S3.  If these are indeed Deck 11 S3 it looks like the MC is covering the balcony on Deck12 S3.

I couldn't log in earlier today on my desktop (Mac, using Safari).

This evening, I could, but now I can't log out, even though the CC  screen is showing 'log in'.  I tried signing off (twice) by using the drop down next to my screen name, but am still logged in.

I am having issues as described above.  I can't log out, can't see CV that shows the countdown clock creator. I'm perpetually logged in.  My signature was all messed up until I deleted all the countdown clocks.  This is the case on laptop, iPhone and iPad.

Last evening we were enjoyed a wonderful evening as the guest of Trish, Karen and George at Luminea.   The only thing better than the food was the warm company.

We chose the starter and desert from Chef Michaels signature menu.   We all had lobster as a main.  Beautifully prepared and delicious.

    Hi Trish and Karen!

    I hope you're still following this thread/review.

I stumbled on it while researching pics of renovations of the ship for our upcoming and very first B2B in October.  Lo and behold there you lovely ladies were!  Hey I recognized you!  Enjoyed meeting you and, also, the PH tour back, wow, 2 years ago on our first Bermuda cruise.  Do you remember us?  My husband always wore Aloha shirts and even had a formal night Aloha shirt.

    Hope all is well!

We are on the Aug 2020 sailing and can’t wait! Been to Amsterdam several times before but never cruised from there; just wanted to chime in and say hi from a fellow NJer (now relocated to AR) 😁

    Hi there

Looking forward to your review!!!! 🌼😀

Thanks for chiming in and have a great cruise... Wait... That's the itinerary I'm looking at....8/10/20!! 😀

We have sailed out of Amsterdam twice, you sail down the canal for a while I don’t remover any locks. Be sure to eat dinner a little later so you can be out on deck .

also try to plan at least 3 nights in Amsterdam. So much to see. Public transportation I great makes it easy to visit some of the small villages. If you plan to see Anne Frank’s house make sure to make reservations well in advance. The boards on Cruise Critic will be a big help with your planning.

We were thinking of doing an Amsterdam pre cruise  and a Paris post cruise!!

These are from inside the lock on the Eclipse from Amsterdam last August. Not much room on either side. They are in the process of building a new set of locks next to the existing. It was interesting, but a very slow process to raise the ship to sea level. If you look on google maps the lock is close to IJmuiden.

    Whoa that is tight!!!

  8. I'm beginning research into a possible future cruise on the Reflection in August 2020 - British Isles 12 night and I've bumped into a Google Maps curiosity for my inexperienced brain.  I've never been to Europe let alone Amsterdam.  I'm wondering how the ships leaving Amsterdam get out to the Sea and be still my kerthumping heart, is it a canal and a lock???  WOW.  It looks like the two 'roads' across the lock slide back (Middensluisweg and Noordersluisweg).  This alone is worth the price of admission.  How cool is that!!! 😲

I'd love to hear stories of folks who have done this cruise or any cruise out of Amsterdam through the canals and the lock.  😀  At the risk of sounding goofy and/or niave, is it as amazing as I hope it could be?  Is there a lot of daylight in August to see the sights as you cruise by?

I'm also trying to decide between Azamara Scotland Intensive and the Reflection British Isles (2 overnights, Dublin and Glasgow) which covers more of Europe and Ireland hitting Belgium and France. 😵

I would also love to hear stories from folks who have done Reflection British Isles and what you were able to do in Portland, Dover, Cherbourg France and Zeebrugge Belgium.

    Thanks to all!

Thanks for the pics.  I hope the plants and other table top decorations are not in my C3 cabin.  Need room for my stuff.  Will have steward take them away.

Nah, they're for the balcony so they can blow  off overnight and bonk  some unsuspecting passengers  enjoying romantic stargazing on a balcony below.  Or blow out  to sea along with the cushions and pillows on the suite balcony.

Haven't sailed the Edge yet.  What are they thinking with these new ships and refurbs :classic_huh:.  The chairs look like classroom chairs and the table doesn't even match whatsoever.  Looks like it was just thrown together as an after thought. :classic_ohmy:

Exactly.  pathetic chairs and a useless 'couch'.  This is not worth the money spent for a Sky Suite IMO.  Classroom chairs indeed!!!  Wow!  I spend a lot of time on sea days on the balcony where I like to read and nap in private peace and quiet.  Balcony furniture and it's availability is very important to me and could make or break whether I book a cruise on post revolution Celebrity ships.  😞

Found these images posted about S1 #6146, right next to the Penthouse suite.  I will be staying in 6145 in two week, very excited with what I see.  Especially love the look of the refurbished bathroom...

Does anybody else find the couch balcony furniture with cushions and pillows on a cruise ship as impractical as I do?.  Are the cushions and pillows  removed by cabin steward during inclement and windy weather, at turn down in case bad weather comes in the night?. What's wrong with new plain loungers  or chair and ottoman with no cushions that can get wet or sootie? 👀 😏👀

Well, then, I will look forward to seeing that Lounge next Feb.  While on the Equinox, we booked the Summit.  It's a great itinerary out of San Juan.!  At first we were a little disappointed by the new look, but after talking to the booking agent on board and seeing large versions of the renderings, I am rather excited about the new look. I will be looking forward to reviews and blogs posted by you CC folks as you see firsthand the new Summit!  We booked a Celebrity suite, which is what we had on Equinox.  So, please, anyone on her in March, please post your opinions!!  Thanks

Celebrity suite on the M class is my fave suite on any Celebrity ship. Those big windows are amazing and separate bedroom is key. We were in one last summer for Bermuda after getting a phenomenal price somehow under $3k pp.

Is the Rendezvous Lounge on M Class the same as the Ensemble Lounge on Solstice Class?  We were on the Equinox, just got off, loved it.  But the Ensemble Lounge, right outside Michael's Club was indeed dark.  Although we passed several enjoyable hours there on several days, listening to the lounge musicians.  Totally enjoyed.

The Rendezvous Lounge on M class is beautiful and is port to starboard with windows a stage in the middle and a bar facing the stage.  They hold the art auction trivia and lots of talks here.  In the daytime the curtains are open and you have views of both sides of the ship.  At night the curtains are closed and the entertainment starts with a nice big dance floor.

I've followed along with some pretty thorough and balanced reviews of the recently launched Celebrity Edge.  I am ever so appreciative of the comprehensive pictures, details, and even personalized answers to individual questions that have been provided by VTCruising and a few others.  It pains me to admit that the closer I got to final payment, which was 12/26, the less excited I felt about this ship.  And that's HUGE considering that on any given day, I'd trade my first born for an opportunity to get away on a cruise...ok, well maybe not my first born, but you get the idea.  After reading everything I could get my eyes on, I remained troubled about spending $7k on an S2 on the Edge.  Recent pricing for my March 31 sailing on Edge has S2's at $5500pp so by those prices, my $7k was a pretty good deal (we booked in August, 2017).  But later in the year (2019), DH and I are booked in a RS on Silhouette for 9 nights and the cost of that is still less than current S2 pricing on Edge.  There are certain things I've come to count on when traveling on an S class ship and in a suite...that I don't think have quite translated over to the Edge.  To name a few...

    • a balcony table that's big enough to have breakfast
    • balcony loungers or comfortable seating
    • a ship library
    • intimate cocktail lounge areas ideal for conversation
    • reasonable charge for Thermal suite pass

    ..........................

I agree wholeheartedly.  Pricing was a major consideration for us but when the real time pics of the balcony seating were released live, that sealed, or unsealed, the deal for us.  We have a B2B booked for October 2019 on the Summit and we're hoping X doesn't meddle with the balcony furnishings too much (maybe replace with like chairs) since we'll be sailing post-edgy modifications.

I read reviews and take information as subjective.  Even renderings may not always turn out the same in real life but when pictures reveal true balcony furnishings and the balcony is where I spend most of my time as does OP, then I will stay away from Edge and Apex.  And I know there are those who will encourage me to do so leaving cabins available for those who love the E class but for now, I am walking away from the Edge.  I will keep eyes on what's next out of Bayonne and continue to enjoy the Summit (hopefully).
