Again where did I say or infer parenting ends?  Some parents allow their children a little independence and let them make their own decision.  Apparently some do not.

So wearing shorts in the MDR on a cruise ship will cause world chaos?

So, where do you draw the line?

There was no mention of a 16 year old cruising by themselves. Not allowed on most cruise lines, just for some peoples information.

Even while cruising with a parent or guardian he is still old enough to make up his own mind despite what his parent or guardian wears.

    Parenting ends at 15 then?

Society (in this case a cruise ship) has laws, rules, customs, and norms.   It is a parent’s job and duty by exposing a child (including a 16 which by most definitions is a child) to different experiences and guiding them into what is socially acceptable.   Otherwise, you will eventually have chaos.   Shorts in the MDR is just the foothill of the mountain of life.

And if he is older than 16 he is old enough to make up his own mind on how to dress for dinner.

Last time someone cruised by themselves at age 16 was probably in the 1800 when some boy ran away to go to sea.   These days they usually cruise with a parent or guardian who wears shorts to the MDR.

  4. My point is that wrongly placed “blame” only confuses an inexperienced traveler.  Princess got handed a very bad situation and is forced to deal with it under the rules of the waters that they are in.

Be glad that this is happening today and not a few hundred years ago.   Because if a “plague-ship” pulled up to another country’s shore it would have been handled much differently.  Just saying.

I was wondering about the fact that my bag/carry on etc not being allowed near my bulkhead seat and has to be stored overhead.

What happens with turbulence and said "Tiny Horse" being hurtled around the cabin?

What is “tiny flying horse”, Alex.

Most passengers do not know how fast an airliner can (and will have to) stop on a rejected takeoff.   My wife (former flight attendant) has watched “parents” hand an infant across the aisle on takeoff.  They have no clue on how that could have turned into an “aisle missile” instantly had we had to stop.

So if you wear your sports team logo hat/t-shirt...are you one of the players?  😉

Great point!  Thank you for helping explain the difference between wearing a name tag and “team logo” attire.

If you are wearing a RCL logo shirt/hat etc.. You are supporting “the team”.    As in go “TEAM ROYAL”!

If you are wearing say a Patriot’s football jersey with “Brady” (Using a local sports franchise.) on the back of the shirt, are you supporting your favorite player or are pretending to be that person?  Most people would have to say you are a follower or fan of that player.

(Please substitute driver for our Southern folks.   Yes, I know; bless my heart.)

But, if you are wearing a RCL logo and “YOUR” name on a name tag, don’t be surprised if someone asks you where the life jacket meeting is.

I like the pins! I like any recognition that Royal Caribbean gives us.

I like the loyalty pins because then I know who to approach when we have questions.   Like things a Diamond Plus should know:

    “When does the buffet open?”

    “Where is the bathroom?”

“Can I get an extra pillow?”

“Does the ship have a reel and long cable for the TV?”

”What, you don’t work here?  You have a name tag with cruise line’s name and your name on it.  Any reasonable and prudent person would assume you work here.”

I have had a Zappos delivery to the Princess warehouse in Fort Lauderdale and it was brought onboard on a turnaround day. I received it the next day. We’ve also had mail boxed up and delivered to the warehouse in Fort Lauderdale and brought on board. We would never try it in any non-US port because of customs issues.

    Agree with the non-US ports.

Do you have the address and a contact point for the Ft. Lauderdale warehouse,

  9. Probably too late for you now, but in the future get large contractor grade trash bags from your local hardware store.

Place the large trash bag in your suitcase.  Place all of your clothes in the bag.  Roll the top down.  Close your suitcase.

Also protects your clothes from someone’s checked red wine.

  10. Thank you! While I did find things I would eat (I'm Vegetarian) - it's not $25 worth. Since I don't eat meat - Crown Grill is not an option.

A cross fitter, a vegen, and a owner of a rescued dog are all introduced to each other. Who gets the first word in?

Oh, and pick the veal it was incredible the other week on the Pacific Princess.

  11. This is the small article I found.

    http://skagwaynews.com/2018/05/24/rockfall-leads-to-tentative-closure-at-railroad-dock/

My son and I did this train ride in 2004 and loved it

So worth the expense. I hope that they get it opened up for everyone to enjoy

    Couple points:

From the article: “We’ve run a drone up there to assess the situation of the slide area, compare photos and see where we are at,” Rose said. “We are looking toward repairs we can have and we’ll go from there.”

For the anti-drone people, this is just one example on how one can be used not just to “stare at your neighbor’s daughter” like has been mentioned here.

Also the slide is in the downtown area. Should be much easier to clear out.

And as the above poster mention it is an awesome tour.

  12. for anyone taking an Alaska cruise and is planning on taking the white pass railroad they are currently have rock slides so all the train rides are being canceled and instead are taking people on a tour bus so bummed! :loudcry: I want my money back :loudcry:

If you look at the Princess Excursion page for Skagway they have added a new tour called Railroad Building. It is $159 per person but you get to dress up in vintage clothing and with a period shovel or pick axe get to clear a section of railway just like they did back in 1898. Due note it is considered a strenuous excursion. And of course there will be an opportunity for shopping at the gift shop where you can buy your shovel or pick axe.

  13. Do you know what they consider a "medical conditon"? Do you have to have that filled out for conditions controlled by medicaton only, such as hypertension or non insulin dependant diabetes?

Sorry to take this a little off topic.

On Holland cruises if you do not have at least one medical condition they will not let you onboard. Unless you are over 95 at which point you can use the gym.
